      Literally had the same experience Lmao. I somehow managed to finish the game being 11 years old without understanding absolutely anything about the game's complex story and unique mechanics it offered, Still, I had a blast and it deeply influenced my taste in gaming. Subsequent playthroughts and video essays analysing the game such as Charlatan's video opened my eyes and lend me a hand in actually understanding and appreciating Deus Ex and Immersive Sims in general

    One of my favorite memories of HR was actually the third Tyrant fight - I had hacked a turret and was just carrying it around the base with me, didn't even know there was a boss fight coming up, and had gotten the chip "upgrade". Stood in the corner baffled there was a boss fight going on and freaking out on how I was gonna fight him...once he walked past the elevator the turret was not only still loaded into the level but kicked on and made swiss cheese outta the boss. I just watched amazed that I'd accidently countered his ace in the hole with my own.

    • @mjp152
      @mjp152 2 ปีที่แล้ว +26

      That's emergent gameplay for you - more developers need to build systems into their games that allow for such things to happen. I had several similar moments with the original DX more than twenty years ago.

    Deus Ex: Human Revolution takes the cake as #1 on my list of the coolest kills I've ever pulled off in a video game. Ever.
    Near-ish the end of the game I was fighting through some base, and carrying a vending machine to toss at some poor sod, and as an impromptu cover. I was met with a group of guys, and as I was wading through their fire, one of them tossed a grenade at me. Immediately, I tossed the vending machine with the intention to run away from the grenade, without being slowed down by a heavy object... it turned out I didn't have to, because my vending machine collided mid-air with the grenade and deflected it back into the group, killing all of the enemies at once.
    10/10 would perform a vending machine grenade deflect group kill again.

    • @btchiaintkidding7837

      this game is so fkin fun.
      i remember i carried a fridge/vending machine like a mobile cover lmao while going through a long
      corridor/hallway popping headsh0ts in between (used the entrance on the other side as chokehold point to small bursts of incoming reinforcement teams, somehow unsilenced loud 10mm is better for faster stealth/ghost runs in this game lol) still maintained stealth
      and the headsh0t only+ unsilenced 10mm pist0l only+ ghost+ gen0c^de playthrough was the most fun i had with this game

    • @Zombie1Boy

      Gotta max out all the XP you can get upto that point; all non-lethal stealth takedowns, finding every alternate route, hacking everything. If I remember correctly you might have 100-120xp left to spare if you did everything correctly.
      Take that meticulous approach to detroit where you farm every single weapon you find (ie: bring every single weapon to a weapons dealer), and you can easily make enough money so you won't have to worry about money ever again when buying the free praxis kits from a limb clinic. Figure out which upgrades you need when you need them and you can easily max out all your cyberware when you get to the end.

The pattern to toss grenades, as far as I remember was to toss the gas grenades first - since the boss takes more time to react after coughing, and while they are coughing, toss more frag grenades, and toss another gas grenade right before the first one runs out. You could take down Yelena with a lot of stun guns when she comes close enough to you during the boss fights.

    • @robertmurdock1848
      @robertmurdock1848 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      There are several grenade/mine combinations to take down the first boss, but you can do it with just one EMP greanade and use the barrels and cannisters in the room.
      You can take down Yelena with one well placed EMP mine.
      You can take down Namir , with a simple take-down.

      You have to keep track of every time one of the bars lights up, and kinda just add every lit segment to a talley in yur head. By the end of the social battle, whatever talley has the most points added up is likely to be their personality type, and that determines what you use to instantly destroy their argument with fax and logitech. Iirc the game will let you know which option correlates to which personality type, but it's been a while, so I'm not certain on that.

    The one HUUUGE complaint I have about this game is the cutscenes. They ALL completely destroy the immersion. The lighting is different. There is a fuzz filter over everything. Or at least it looks like that on higher rez displays. So every out of engine scene ends up looking like it doesn't belong. Like when you find the hacker in sarrif. Goes from a brightly lit room when you walk in to a dingy, smoke filled underground gambling basement vibe.

      @Ty Bey The directors cut ran terribly back then (performance is almost halfed). But I think it doesn't matter anymore on modern PCs. Also you have to mod in the yellow Filter, which was sadly removed in the directors cut. Other than that it's better in every way. You can't play the missing link DLC seperately anymore but that's subjective I guess.

    Now see, what I think is interesting is what Yellow generally represents... See, if I learned anything from my time with Persona 4, I know that yellow generally represents two dichotomies: Happiness and joy, or sickness and malaise. In a sense, since there's no real joy or happiness in the environment, it's to tell the player that there's something genuinely wrong with this world, and you need to find out what that is.
    Also, real random thing to mention: That director's cut of Human Revolution is on sale until January 5th, only 3.29 Canadian. Go buy it, people.

  • @gunswinger3110
    @gunswinger3110 2 ปีที่แล้ว +10

    There's a few augs that I personally avoid taking/use partially cuz they make the game a bit too easy like the wall hacks, radar upgrades, typhoon and social aug. The game already gives you a pretty generous starter radar, so upgrading gives you more info which makes the stealthing too easy. The typhoon makes boss encounters a cake walk cuz you just need to activate it twice near a boss to kill them. The social aug gives you a psych eval of your target which helps you make a decision on what to say but the option to subvert the conversation by pressing one of the three influence options makes the social battles too easy. If you're not running pure combat build, you can avoid the dermal armor and recoil mitigation then spec into augs that help with exploration instead such as hacking + stealth nodes, increased lung capacity, battery recharge + capacity, higher jumps, icarus system and heavy lifting. Maxed out invisibility aug also works well if you stocked enough candy bars.

    • @robertmurdock1848
      @robertmurdock1848 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I found the upgrade in the radar system more confusing than helpful , and CASIE is only useful in two situations. I ignore both of those.
      Recoil is only really needed for the heavy rifle.
      I've played several "nerfed" variations recently : one weapon only , no energy consuming augs , augs only - no weapons or grenades/mines , no buying or selling from arms dealers , etc.

      Sooo, fun fact about this. I originally played Deus Ex HR on an Xbox 360...on a tiny CRT screen. Picking the first radar upgrade literally made the map so big that all the enemy triangles were just a single pixel on the screen, meaning I couldn't see where tf they were, and they also tended to blend into the background.
      I usually would hold off on picking anything in that section just bc it was a "remove radar" aug for me.
      Things got better when I just played the director's cut on PC with a proper 1080p monitor, lol

    Good video! Soooo... Let's talk about the food. As an official representative of the Italian food police I commend your effort, but a lot of things should have been done differently ;-). The undercooking of the spaghetti and finishing with the sauce is a good idea (although not really necessary with tomato based sauces). A step that should never be skipped is stir frying the pasta with the sauce in a pan to have optimal mixing and sauce adhesion to the pasta. but it should be done with some heat and in a pan. Putting spaghetti in a bowl like that only makes them stick together. Some parts will be overcooked (the one exposed to the liquid of the sauce) and some will stay hard and dry (the one sticking together) Finishing the cooking of the pasta in a pot with some cooking water or an especially liquid sauce makes it extra creamy and it's called "risottare" the pasta. It's important to check often the texture of the pasta. If it needs a bit more cooking some sauce or cooking water should be added. If the texture is approaching a good level, the flame should be raised to max to quickly drying up the sauce. The onion soffritto should be cooked waaay more. That's a basic cooking trick. A good soffritto really changes the taste of everything because of the caramelized onions. Barilla pasta is quite difficult to work with because being on the cheap side overcooks really easy. Keeping the timing indicated on the box to the second is a good trick. The bread with tons of butter oil and mismatched herbs (parsley and oregano??) sound awful and also very American. But who knows, maybe it's good. Usually butter, especially the good kind you use, makes everything taste good. FIY garlic bread in Italy is just roasted bread that has had a garlic clove rubbbed on top and some olive oil. Cheers

    So, at least for the first boss, my nonlethal stealth playthrough on GMDX mode I got a lot of mileage out of poking him with my pistol from the vents on the second floor. They're very interconnected so you can poke him from one side of the room, crawl out another exit to the vent from the one he's firing at, jump into the vent on the opposite side of the room and poke him again.
    It's not the most time-efficient, probably, but if you nail enough headshots it's not an absolute ballbuster.

    I had a blast with Human Revolution, replayed it multiple times in different ways over the years. When Mankind Divided was released I started playing with great hype only to be extremely disappointed by its non-ending, a game that's basically missing its third act to serve as sequel bait for the next.
    And then Square Enix made Eidos work on a cash-grab pay-to-win Marvel "games as a service". What a waste of talent.
