Do you think swimwear can be made on a sewing machine as I don't have an overlocker. I struggle to buy swimwear that fits properly and would like to try but am scared it wouldn't stand up to swimming if sewn on a normal machine with a stretch stitch.

I don’t see why not. You can use Marflex thread as well instead of the sections you can overlock you can just zig zag and you don’t need to cover stitch you can just topstitch
