      It's true wisdom, come to think of it, and applies to all sorts of things. We all go " If I could have this or that, I'd have no problems", things such as money. But then, if you had these things, you'd also have other problems, like constantly worrying about your material possessions etc.

    I have no idea how someone can explain "sight" to a blind person.
    It's like telling me there's a new sense, but I can't undertand it

    • @larryhouse2767
      @larryhouse2767 5 ปีที่แล้ว +401

      Too feel something would give your mind an idea of an objects shape. Sight allows you too have understanding of an objects shape without touching, and from any distance.
      Really the only way I could explain it.

    • @sbinotto3780
      @sbinotto3780 5 ปีที่แล้ว +197

      Lets start by explaining every other sense the blind person has
      Lets take any small object like for example a can
      You can feel its dimensions, how big it is, how heavy it is
      You can feel the texture of it, that its smooth
      You can feel the temperature of it
      You can smell it
      You can shake it, hear what sound it makes if you hit it against something
      Sight gives you the ability to see the dimensions even if you dont touch it
      Sight gives you the ability to understand the position in every object in a room without moving
      Sight gives you the ability to differentiate objects that are the same in the dimensions, weight, smell and sound trough their color
      Every object has a color trait, and colors give an object character
      We associate colors with emotions, like we associate texture with emotions
      A color can be sharp or washy, clean or dirty, bright or dark and it tells us more about the object
      Thats how i would explain sight

    • @rivers9924
      @rivers9924 5 ปีที่แล้ว +78

      You can’t explain sight. It’s like us trying to think about a colour that doesn’t exist. Or trying to see behind your head. You just can’t.

    • @uhPeely
      @uhPeely 5 ปีที่แล้ว +37

      It is like saying there’s a new color but you can’t see it.

    • @vomm
      @vomm 5 ปีที่แล้ว +14

      That's not the same. Blind people can see - they have imagination, fantasy. The human brain is able to see things regardless of having functional eyes or not.

      It's quite simple if you're not an moron, allow me to explain you my 6th sense, i had many broken bones so i can feel the rain before happening, im quite sure it has to do with the atmospheric pressure changing and my "patched" bones. It doesn't hurt, tickle, itch or anything, i just feel it's gonna rain. This never failed in 8years. Here you go, explain something to someone who doesn't have it.

    I was a helper on my mothers blind bowling team.
    I would set up the ramps, Read the score sign and just do a little here and there.
    But they let me bowl with them.
    This went on for a couple of months, when one day my mother asked me to read a paper the bowling alley guy brought over.
    I read it allowed to all.
    When I stopped there was silence.
    Then they said..... Your sighted??
    My mother never told them, and they assumed that because my bowling was way worse than theirs was, that I was blind😂🤣😤
    I am a terrible bowler, and my moms team was really good.
    I just couldn’t get better!

    There is a blind guy in my high school, and his classmates went to play basketball. He heard them leave and asked one of there where there were going. He told him that they're gonna play basketball. The bling guy said, why didn't you tell me? Can I go too? They all became silent, and the guy said: Well, sure you can come, but you won't know where the basket is. And then he said he doesn't give a shit and went anyways. He's so cool. I think almost everyone feels that there is a simple solution to all their problems at some point in life. If only I had more money, was stronger, smarter, less shy. If I wasn't gay or if I were better in school or didn't have diabetes or depression or if only I had a better job, kinder wife or lived in a better place... Then all my problems would be solved. Some people never come to the realization that Tommy has, that his blindness makes his life different, not worse.

    • @Me-oz5vz
      @Me-oz5vz 7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      It's easy to not be gay, after all it's just a choice. Go have sex with the opposite gender (which there are only two of) and you'll see.

    • @KatalovesLinkinPark
      @KatalovesLinkinPark 7 ปีที่แล้ว +39

      Me I hope this is a joke. You can't choose who you feel romantic/sexual attraction to. Just being with the other sex doesn't make you straight. Your actions don't determine your orientation, it's about what you feel inside. You can't change that willingly. You can only try to ignore it, what can be very harmful for your mental health

    • @Me-oz5vz
      @Me-oz5vz 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      It is not an excuse. I assume you identify as straight. So you think you can just "choose" to be attracted to the same sex just by willpower? Interesting. It sounds more like you're a bisexual not willing to admit it.

    I don't really comment on videos ever but your outlook on life is just so inspirational. Sometimes I think I focus too much on the negative aspects in my life and I've been trying to push myself to always see the positive in a situation, and this seems to be something you have totally mastered. Like you mentioned, you thought your problems would be gone if you could see when you were young, but now you think you would probably have different problems and that's so true. There are always problems, and we should be grateful for what we have and not sad about what we don't have. I really admire how you changed your outlook and I hope I can become more like you in the future! Thank you for the insightful, funny, and educational videos. Have a wonderful day! How do people bother getting upset about a few dislikes on a video with a 99.8% approval rating?
      It's a good video, but someone is bound to come along eventually and complain about something trivial like lighting or videography. But 10 out of 5212 people isn't anything to worry about. I'd start wondering what people were up to if it had a thousand dislikes or something.

      William Salverda Who knows. Maybe they think he titters too much. But it's only a disappearing 0.2% of those who rated and an even more insignificant 0.01% of those who viewed the video. Whatever it is that they think is wrong with the video clearly doesn't hurt his viewership, so there's no reason for him to pay attention to them.

    Hey Tommy, do you get motion-sickness? like when you are on a boat or something similar, because supposedly sight plays a big role in getting motion sick.

    • @med8615
      @med8615 7 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      He shouldn't because motion sickness is when your brain is confused whether you are moving or not due to misinterpreting information from one's *vision*. For example if you're in a car and stare out the window your eyes *see* the houses pass by and the brain interprets this as you moving even though you are stationary relative to the car. This causes fluid in the semicircular canals (in your ears) to start circulating to maintain dynamic equilibrium, since dynamic equilibrium wasn't ever disturbed (because you weren't moving) your brain gets confused which causes lightheadedness and nausea.
