This was an experiment and educational for me. I have normally bought those dash caps in the past but they fit kinda bad especially after sitting in the sun they warp bad. This will be my go to repair from now on
Looks fantastic! What a special helper you got there. I am so happy you have more projects to come. I have gotten used to looking for that "new" VVG video! Have a great weekend John, the great pumpkin is looking great!
Thanks I think it came out great only because of my master helper 😎. Thanks you for sticking around and tuning in to the ole VVG and here is to many more years.
Looks great! I agree, those dash caps are pretty bad. Good to see your kids still want to play cars with dad. Keep up the good work and thanks for taking us along.
Looking great. You’ve got a great vision on how to make it work out, just like the top. Excellent how to. I hope our ‘67 goes that good. We would be interested in the dying process and materials used. Thanks 👍
Your covering everything! I have to do the passenger side a 3inch crack fixed it as good as I could but now thanks to you I can get it right thanks again you have helped me big time and I'm sure all kinds of other fierbird owners..
Note the folds in the corner aren’t even visible now with the dash installed and the a pillar covers on. So I will be doing all mine like this now. Glad to help and appreciate all the people everyone has turned them the direction of VVG it has been fun sharing some knowledge
Your the man that's why I worry you all the time I trust you I am really good at body work but this is the first time I am using real paintyour a tremendous help on everything not many people like you in this world thanks again🙂
Awesome job!! Turned out nice. I’ve experimented quite a bit also, so here’s what I would recommend for your next dash that has complex curves; Four Way Stretch vinyl. It can take corners much better than stiffer, unforgiving vinyls. Couple other tips, buy your vinyl in the exact color you need as the vinyl “dyes” are nothing more than paint. It sits on the top of the vinyl and fades fast in the sun as it barely has any UV additives. Oh also a heat gun will help persuade vinyl to stretch over corners. Cheers
Good deal, I believe the 67 and 68 repop dashes are good and you helped confirm that but I can tell you from experience the ones for 1969 are just about worthless
@VinylVillageGarage I haven't tried a 69 yet. All the 69s I've had had the original dash in it. I don't think anyone was re popping them back then. I'm taking 93 on back. I'll take your word on it any day for sure
Super job! I used that Permatex Plastic Welder on cracks which are hidden from the outside view on my 70 Z28 black console. Hardens like a rock which you can sand, file and drill. Great for fixing mounting ears.
Love the permatex weld I use it for so many things and has worked great. Even my LS swapped bird. I used it to modify my truck style intake and has held for 10,000 miles now.
Just a little fyi on epoxies. Not necessarily applicable here but could be. Devcon 2 ton is the best hard drying epoxy and their five min is a softer drying product. Like this Permatex. Probably equals. You can thin 2 ton with denatured alcohol as well you can use any color acrylic water based paint, I prefer Createx. You can repair emblems and fix details pretty easy.
@@VinylVillageGarage it’s gotta be denatured. I’ve used it down to 25% epoxy 75 den alc to seal wood and supply a smooth surface for a base before painting an exterior wood item. It will preserve birdhouses or feeders unlike polys.
Again, excellent work. I don't think it could have gone any better. (The camera work was so good, it may lead to a career) Thanks for helping your Dad. Allow me one question: What was the heat gun for?
Heat gun didn’t get used. I had it out incase I needed it. I thought if there was an area that needed help stretching it would be useful but this stuff laid out great.
eBay purchase. I love its flexibility and it soaks up dye nicely too. The grain isn’t and exact match but other than that it’s a great material. Here is an eBay link www.ebay.com/itm/323817018004?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=Dk0Lg1vJSxe&sssrc=4429486&ssuid=BN_aheTVQma&var=&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY
Thanks. He also has the rear cover. Is the rear seat wider on a hardtop car? I've always thought they were, due to the rams on the top mechanism sitting on the sides of the seat. The guy I'm talking to on Ebay claims they are both the same size. What do you think?
I know I bought it off eBay. Its left over material I purchased it for a car I was doing 4 years ago that is why it was tan. Wish I could figure it out. It’s super stretchy and flexible. It doesn’t have much of a fabric backing. It was only like $50 for 3 yards too
Jon, Can you give me a lead as to the dashpad interior paint supplier? If you had it done, I would be interested in chating with him to find a supplier of interior paint . I need saddle color code 255
I have a local paint supply Place and i went in with a sample of the color I needed and they where able to mix up what I considered a great match. I have yet to find anyone that has the ability to mix factory interior colors unfortunately. I have found the paint codes but no mix instructions
Same here.. Dupont used to have interior paint with all the vintage trim codes, but when they sold to Axalta., that was all gone. Best the suppliers can do is scan a color for a close mix, BUT it has to be from a solid painted panel . Not from a grained interior piece.
Never considered repairing my old dash pad, so I threw it out. Thanks for sharing.
This was an experiment and educational for me. I have normally bought those dash caps in the past but they fit kinda bad especially after sitting in the sun they warp bad. This will be my go to repair from now on
You have some great talents and patience.
Your daughter is a great addition to the video. Working with Dad.
Good luck.
I learned a great deal of patience from my dad, he is a fantastic teacher.
That’s much gooder then plastic dash cap. Nice job
Indeed and feels correct too.
Wow! Factory look, awesome fit!
GREAT JOB!!
I think it worked great and exceeded my expectations. Thank you!
Much better camera work than usual! 😉 Great video.
Lol. Yeah she is a bit of a natural. Might have to put her on the payroll. One can of orange Mountain per video.

Great job! Looks SWEET! Your helper did a great job! Some day she will be rebuilding "birds" too!
I hope she does take over for me. Gotta give these cars to someone that can care for them.
Awesome job! Finished product looks great! Kudos to your helper great camera work!
She is a fantastic helper
Looks great!

I have added taking the dash cap off my convertible and do this to my list of things to do.
Excellent camera angles! Making memories that'll last a lifetime. Dash pad turned out great I'll be using that one some day.
She is a super great garage helper. Might have to up her pay to 2 orange Mountain dews!
Hey there, wonderful job Ms Ed! Thank ya'll for yet another great video!
I think she did a fantastic job! I really like playing cars even more when the kiddos help. She earned two orange Mountain dews in this one
Looks fantastic John!!!👍🏽
I agree worked out great!
Great video! I have a dash pad for a Chevelle that is is full of cracks Looks like a Winter experiment is in the offing 👍👍
Heck yeah! I might have a go on the GTO dash too.
Looking great. You’ve got a great vision on how to make it work out, just like the top. Excellent how to. I hope our ‘67 goes that good. We would be interested in the dying process and materials used. Thanks 👍
I will have to show my secret to painting interior pieces. It’s actually quite simple.

That came out looking amazing great job both of you great team work
She is an excel side kick. Heck all my kiddos are. Makes playing cars even more amazing and enjoyable
Looks very clean and straight!! Great job!
I can’t complain how it came out. This was my first dash repair and plans to do several more

Will do thanks for the tips! Appreciate it. This how we all can get better.
Now I’m really amazed, great help with the camera too , those folds look fine to me , great job
Now installed with a pillar covers on you can’t see the folds at all. My little helper did a fantastic job!
@@VinylVillageGarage your right the pillar covers do extend at the bottom a bit
Great Job and the subject applies to So many cars....Mine included😊
Definitely, this isn’t just f-body repair it could be used on several cars including door panels

Cleaning your crack is a good thing lol how close are the 68 dash pads tot he 67 ones???
Similar but the 67 doesn’t have the verticals legs it only goes across the top so much much easier to rewrap
Came out perfect!
I really like it. Thanks
Looks great
Thanks, fits and feels very original too
Where did you source that vinyl? I like the flexibility it seems to have similar properties to leather as opposed to vinyls I've used before

@@VinylVillageGarage thank you sir...is that also what they term "4 way stretch"?
Might be, I have heard of that,
Great helper
I think she is the best!
I found a pair of standard black seat covers (what I need) for $240. Is this a good deal, or should I keep looking?
Thanks for your help!
If it is the Front only that is about the normal price, if it’s front and rear that is a good deal.
Thanks. He also has the rear cover. Is the rear seat wider on a hardtop car? I've always thought they were, due to the rams on the top mechanism sitting on the sides of the seat. The guy I'm talking to on Ebay claims they are both the same size.
