      In my first run I won the final boss with a grand total of 124h. And as soon as I’ve got time, I’m gonna play again, as slowly as I need, to try to understand the lore by myself. And once that’s done, I will beat the path of pain, the pantheons and steel soul. And if I’m lucky enough, for the time I’m done with all that, Silksong will be finally out.

    Correction: Microsoft did not acquire Moon Studios, just published Ori and acquired its distribution rights.
    Blasphemous is great, but I didn't play it until after I made this video. If you make your way over to my community tab (th-cam.com/users/Cannotbetamed1community) I've compiled a list of the games that have been recommended in the comments.
    Also, Dead Cells is not a Metroidvania.

      Dead Cells sucks

    • @furrynick
      @furrynick 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      they don't own the IP either. Microsoft doesn’t own the IP or Moon Studios; however, Microsoft does own the distribution rights to the franchise. Unfortunately, this means that as long as Microsoft owns those distribution rights to the franchise, an Ori and The Blind Forest PS4 version is not going to ever happen. Is a little tricky to figure this out because in their website it says that in 2011 Moon Studio's became a Microsoft First party Studio. I guess what that means is that you not gonna see any Moon studio games in a Sony Platform and they strictly working for Microsoft only

    • @furrynick
      @furrynick 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Favian Minecraft is a world phenomenon type of game and the money that franchise generate is massive and that’s why Microsoft won’t make it exclusive to Xbox and rather multi platform. It will be hundreds of millions mistake if they have it only for Xbox. Microsoft wants that money and that’s why is in PS and Nintendo

    It seems to have gone under the radar for most people, but Strider actually has a modern take on the Metroidvania genre. It has the floaty acrobatic controls and fast paced action we all know and love from the classic Strider games but in an open explorable map. It's kinda weird that most people don't mention it since Strider used to be a very popular Capcom franchise, and the character is even featured in Marvel vs Capcom 2 and 3.

      Same here ! I love Super Metroid since like forever and discovered Ori and the Blind Forest recently, which made me play Ori and the Will of the Wisps (both are awesome games). Then, I heard about Hollow Knight... This game just blew my mind and I can't stop playing it (I'm 150+ hours in and still going), but I honestly wish I hadn't played it so early because now a lot of good games seem "meh" in comparison. I tried Axiom Verge, which was mentioned in a lot of top 5 (or more) metroidvanias' videos, but honestly, while I have to admit that I somewhat enjoy playing it sometimes, it feels soooo empty after Hollow Knight... I can't wait for Silksong too and I really hope it'll be as good as Hollow Knight !

    Before my PC died on me, I was playing three games: "Iconoclasts", "Death's Gambit" and "Bloodrayne: Betrayal". Of the three "Iconoclast" was the most fun, by far, since "Death's Gambit" is a "souls-like game", which means it's torture, although it's playable, but still has some areas which are intensively challenging, and which you won't be able to pass without submitting yourself to some intense grinding. And about "Bloodraye", it's not exactly a metroidvania, because it's a linear game, but it has some elements of plataforming, and it's a 2D side scrolling game, so it has some Castlevania feeling moments. It also has the most unforgiving and annoying jumping puzzle I've ever had to attempt, so I only recommend that last one if you can handle frustration really, really, really well.
    And of all these games, I only knew about "Ritual of the night". They all seem to be very good recommendations, gonna have to give them a try as soon as I'm able.

      Rabi-Ribi looks fun. Just added to my wish list. I had kinda the same problem with Iconoclasts. The story is good, but very deppressing.

    I just got Timespinner for Switch at Best Buy the other day. Solid game so far. Did not know the Familiar could be controlled by Player 2. Glad I clicked on the vid.

    I played majority of them, the most i recommend Ori, Hollow knight and Bloodstained. And not mentioned here but also awesome- Guacamelee, Shantae, Monster boy & cursed kingdom, Blasphemous, Touhou Luna Nights and Salt&sanctuary (but its more 2d Souls clone than vania).

    Right off, I would highly recommend "A Robot Named Fight" It's procedurally generated and offers a large list of items to unlock. Always fun.

      It's great, but it's not Metroidvania...

      João Vitor Rezende Santos I kinda count it as one :) non-linear accesibility of places, backtracking to places with new abilities, skippable and missable things, etc. But you might be right, it’s not strictly metroidvania, let’s say it’s metroidvania-ish :)

      @@nkwilk513 Now I can agree more! There is a great essence of metroidvania style.

    I don't think I've ever noticed the gameplay footage from The Mummy Demastered before and now I really want to play it.

    I love Metroidvanias! Probably my favorite genre along with 3rd person action-adventures. So glad you gave Hollow Knight another go. Fantastic suggestions! The Shantae series are always my first recommendations. I think I recall you not enjoying Half-Genie Hero, but Pirate's Curse is the best of the series (though not exactly a Metroidvania). Risky's Revenge and Seven Sirens are though! Rabi-Ribi, Minoria, Momodora Reverie Under the Moonlight, Touhou Luna Nights, and Iconoclasts would be other suggestions off the top of my head.

      I'm glad I gave Hollow Knight another shot as well, pushed through my dislike of having to find the map maker.

    Wonderful list, Pam!!
    I had no idea Mummy Demastered was such a complete game. I assumed it was a simple, mobile-style time killer. As a lover of Metroidvania games, thanks for correcting my false assumptions.

    Oh this was just perfectly timed, thanks Pam! This is a genre I never used to enjoy, until I played Axiom Verge, which got my completely hooked. I then went back and finished the original Super Metroid - and had a blast. Spent a lot of time trying to find the next ones to play. I really appreciate that you told us how long each takes to beat - this is something I think carefully about these days!

      I always like knowing how long a game will be. Hollow Knight was very long for a game of this type, but somehow I didn't mind.

    I would highly recommend the 2014 reboot/remake of STRIDER.
    It's a great 2.5D reimagining of a combination of the original arcade game and NES game.

    Hollow knight and Ori have grown to be two of all time favorite games. I'm also a fan of megaman games, particularly the Zero series. With those preferences, I'd highly recommend Iconoclast. I thought that game was absolutely fantastic.
