      That's why kyokushin normalizes receiving full contact blows. Breathing becomes easier. Less likely to hit the mat after a liver shot. And last but not least more able to observe movement patterns. You can talk about skin touch, pads etc. all day. Not a good time to have a rude awakening mid competition.

    I know he's a karate fighter and he could totally kick my ass but is boxing needs work. I started with boxing then later learned kickboxing. I understand that you don't want to put to much weight on your legs but there's s still no noes in is technique. On the jab straight he lowers is hands before throwing and loads up a bit. On the hooks and straights he has is chin up and only uses is arm. The lower body is locked and he over compensates with the upper body.
    I just want to help. Maybe on the last hit he can then turn and go full power like Bas says. Set up with punches, drop the weight in the middle but still use the hips and then completely pivot at the end.

    I think I can be typing for days to write my story. I was born asthmatic, getting easily bullied until 11. On 6 year my parents registered me in the swimming pool where I learned to reboot while being on asthma crisis...20 years best friends me and the water. On 7 year due to the bullying joined Ninjutsu (only available) where I learned to use more of my mind and keep emotions down ( very helpful for asthmatic people).... 19 years best friends. On 14 year I joined muai thai....power and speed with proper breathing techniques. From my 4 to my 16 my parents paid a fortune to medical treatments with few money back from insurance. In short.....work dame hard, learn first to breath, then learn to control emotions, then learn how to manipulate breath, work anaerobic conditions and aerobic. ..... the big puzzle of martial arts needs a good foundation on breath control. Nice video

I did it with this old school Japanese guy and the only way you could get a black belt from him is to go pass the exam in Japan. Then again in America they give 4 year olds black belts which surprised me at first.

      Shotokan is so pure? Exactly what I thought and I trained with some of the better UK instructors for over 4 years, then I did Goju Ryu which was a pain in the arse transition, however, it's a much harder, solid style that completely exposes the holes in Shotokan, especially it's meaningless bunkai,
      and lack of heavy power. Thai boxing teaches fight IQ and aggression with some nasty elbow and knee techniques, karate is more about power shots and the low guard, stance rigidity / lack of level change is a problem inherent in these Japanese styles

    Shane, I'm in Philly and I've been watching your channel for some time before I came here. I'm always encouraging folks to watch your videos. Do you have an email address I can contact you at. I'm always thinking about training and trying to figure out ways to make it more accessible for folks that can use it most but can't afford it or don't have time to be at the academy 4 or 5 days a week with in marginalized communities in the Philly area and I wanted to see if you may be interested in helping out seeing as you are from here and all. Either way I always love your videos and you continue to be an inspiration

    I regained a lot of respect for karate after I discover karate combat. Shane have a background in taekwondo I always wanted to do taekwondo, but they said it for children is this true

    • @ORTIZ17113
      @ORTIZ17113 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Taekwondo is not for children but it’s not as strong as it used to be. The way they train for the Olympics isn’t very practical for real world situations but if you learn Taekwondo and then learn another art after that like kickboxing or must Thai for example then your kicks will increase in strength and be more versatile

    How to land more punches and kicks in semi contact karate tournaments
    I have trouble landing kicks in tournaments

    • @ORTIZ17113
      @ORTIZ17113 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Depends on what kind of fighter you are but one essential rule of thumb is to set up your kicks with punches
      -if you’re a counter striker then you’ll want to time you kicks with you’re opponents movements(example: when they move forward to attack hit them with a front kick or side kick as a defensive strike)
      -if you prefer doing a barrage of strikes then mix your punches and kicks together(example: Jab to the face, straight to the body, roundhouse to the face)
      -if you have good flexibility with your legs then apply multiple kicks in one combination(example: front kick into a roundhouse kick)
      Hope this helped

    The Kiai is also good in giving you the psychological edge, even if it is just for a few seconds. You kiai, you feel strong, you got the adrenaline rush and you can just punish for a few seconds if you have the chance.

      I’m assuming you are talking about in an MMA style situation. Try closing the gap by moving in. Be cautious to avoid any strikes coming towards you and you will have to be brave; any hesitation will give your opponent a split second to react! From there you can clinch, or even go for a takedown.
