LS Swapped Delorean Twin Turbo Fabrication - Reconstructing the Widebody DMC12 Turbo System

- We are making some serious headway this week with the wide body LS swapped twin turbo Delorean project! When you saw us work on this DMC12 last, we were ripping out the Airlift suspension system to put this Delorean on some static KW performance coil overs. We also stripped down the entire turbo system and tested out our 5.3L V8 naturally aspirated for the first time.
When we saw the LS engine running perfectly without our Garret turbos, we knew it was time to go back to the drawing board with the twin turbo design. So this episode, we're taking our drawing board sketches and bringing them to life on this Delorean, so we can once again have a wild boosted set up on this iconic 1980s ride!
We're chopping up our custom headers, slicing in to our custom intercoolers, and taking our reciprocating saw to the fiberglass panels of this DMC12 to completely redesign and reconstruct our placement of our Garret turbos.

Looks good, one thing i'd consider, is supporting the turbos from the middle, that is a pretty long header with a turbo hanging off of it, over time it may crack, but you'd reduce the chances of that by supporting the turbos weight and taking that stress off of the headers

I like that you have your own shop and have to be carrying all the weight from the other shop. You have a great design skills and aren’t afraid to take on the challenge of making completely one of vehicles that others are not doing. I started to take notice of your work when I saw the DeLorean coming off the tow truck.

The explanations through all the steps of development for the new location for the turbos was great. And seeing a lot of the work done, even with time lapsed view, instead of describing the work to be done and then cutting to the finished product. Great video! I've followed the progress of this car since Salvage to Savage. I am excited to see the progress of the vehicle. Started my subscription today.

Or you could put a direct drive turbo that has a gear system to drive the alternator, power steering and so on and it keeps everything up tight to the block and you get much cooler air to the intake 😊😊😊

I'm pausing and commenting before the final, so maybe you already know this and just haven't done it already, but you know you can loosen and rotate the compressor and turbine on the turbo separately to get the inlet and outlet exactly where you need them, yes?

Tim, what do you think about Murcielago style cooling vents that open out of the C-pillar to feed either the V8 car fresh air or the wide body feeding the intercooler? I think that area of the car is plain and could use a out of the ordinary solution.

Impressive fabrication! Much cleaner look with them tucked now. I'm curious about the header/turbo/intercooler (apparent) rigid mounting - is the drivetrain hard mounted to the chassis? If not, how is the setup allowing for drivetrain movement under load?
@@lookforjoe yup all solid mounted but the vibrant hd clamps have tons of movement so it can handle the vibrations. It drives really smooth.

Car looks amazing! Random question though, I'm probably wrong but would the turbos pull in enough air through the filter side within that semi-enclosed area?
@@Timbolonius that’s a great question and we plan on putting some provisions in the diffuser under the turbo to feed cool air into the filter.

@@MoceriAutocraft I don't want to sound like a keyboard warrior it's just I have built many race cars for WTAC in Australia. I would be looking as soon as possible. Ticon has some heat management parts if they are a sponsor of yours. If not replacing the fibreglass and replacing it with thin sheet metal.
I wonder how many times, since he started this car, he's said the phrase "widebody delorean". After the first couple thousand of them, you can probably just call it the delorean. Everybody knows it has a widebody kit by now.
I do believe he says widebody because he currently has 2 deloreans.

You have built what i always wanted to build.. A Deloreon that had incredible performance..Love this car.. This is what i always thought GM should have built.. maybe not this wild but definitely not the Turd that GM built.. Awesome build and alot of work on those Turbos.. All of the cry babys hating on turbos and LS swaps and air ride need a fucking hug from your mothers.. nothing wrong with any of it and i bet none of you ever did as much work as he has to install those turbos and air ride.. Didn't John Delorean name the doors DeGullwing (Delorean plus Gullwing)? Then while drawing the 4-Door Delorean it was supposed to be called the DeGullwing4. Maybe keep the Delorean code names going from 1983. Something with "De" in the name like Apple uses "i" for their products. I get the Back to the Future references but kindy goofy for a legit Model name. Just spit balling so voting for an old school name for the models.

@@MoceriAutocraft I’m not scared I just acquired a DeLorean. I’ve built just about everything except for a DeLorean. But definitely not afraid of the build or the grind. I know what it takes to get stuff done on a time crunch and I know builder block.
Great work ! I will say the LS part kinda ruins it . What doesn’t have an LS in it ? Yes they are reliable & easy to get parts for but if it was a really unique different build it would have a different set up .
just curious as to why you don't think a twin turbo wide bodied ls powered delorian would be considered "really unique different build" ? is there a couple of them round your way ? i think its the perfect engine small footprint could have an easy 800 hp if you want or a lazy 400 if thats what the owners want . help me out here i just dont understand ls hate . what is the better choice ?
