Throw the rubbish into the wheelie bin outside: no more dog raids, no more annoying trash to clear up when they come home from wherever. Doesn't take much working out, does it?

It’s not really about feeding your dog once a day. It’s all about feeding him the RIGHT amount per day. You can give some treats and feeding him 2 or even 3 times by day if you prefer. But you have to calculate everything specially for an Overweight dog.
This said, I’m pretty sure most people feeds their dogs once a day. 😅

@Sativa Knight93 The reason they were feeding her veggies is because, like us, dogs are omnivores. So they need a varied diet so this means it’s bad to only feed a dog meat, or only feeding a dog veggies.

I started out liking Hattie’s family and angry at Gizmo’s owner and then completely switched by the end!
You can tell Gizmos owner really loves him and was just very ignorant and showing that love in COMPLETELY the wrong way.
Once she was given a wake up call and the tools to do better, she really put her heart into it. The scenes of them both on the treadmill side by side and her cheering for him made me so happy!!
And Hattie's family couldn't be bothered to fix her weight, yeah Hattie stole food from the kitchen, but then keep her out by locking the door or adding a barrier, when my family got our dog, Cody, we set an old mattress up between the living room and hallway so he wouldn't get into places he shouldn't be.

Seriously, there are few foods worse you can give to a dog. You want to give them a yummy treat? Use peanut butter and pumpkin! You can make amazing homemade treats with those.

Not even reddit, the whole internet. Those same people will tell overweight people to go on a diet, but when it's a dog it's "cute and chonky"
Yeah, let's just generalize all these social media platforms instead of just calling out the people who treat their dogs like this in the first place. It's not all of Reddit or all twitter, etc. I have even seen the r/chonkers Subreddit and most of the time the people are either shamed into getting their dogs to lose weight or people post there about their journey of their pet's weight loss. But keep criticizing entire groups of people because they say the animal is a chonk...which they are. They can call it a chonk and still want it to lose weight and be healthy.
If Hattie’s family wasn’t willing to keep food out of her reach, install some sort of barriers to prevent her from entering the kitchen, or even just remember to use victoria’s methods with the alarms, why on earth did they decide on getting a beagle in the first place 😭😭😭 they’re notorious for scavenging
Right? I kept thinking why not just block off the kitchen entirely? Surely it would be easier to train everybody to close a door/baby gate every time they go through than it would be to put alarms on everything (and remember to turn them on).
Can we appreciate how Jennifer reacted to realising how much she’s overfeeding her dog? There’s no awkward silence from her as she internalises it,there’s genuine remorse instead. That’s nice to see.
Ikr, you can tell Jennifer really loves her dog but hasn't realized the damage shebhas caused and unfortunately she made it a habit to feed her dog, I'm glad she's dedicated to helping Jess get better.

I've seen an episode of Dog Whisperer or whatever it's called where a firehouse station Dalmatian was exercised by the firemen in the firehouse using a treadmill, because when they're on call, they can't leave the firehouse. It makes a lot of sense.

As a beagle owner, I can absolutely confirm that those dogs eat literally everything in sight. You can’t eat comfortably with a beagle unless you’re comfortable being stared at.
Same with Havanese. I have one and he wines and stares at me for food. It's if he's trying to say, "Mom, I know I just ate, but I'm starving. So give me your food even though it has onions in it and is bad for me."

I love the way Victoria deals with each situation uniquely. You can tell she really knows what she’s doing. With Hattie, the issue was a lack of attention so she helped the owners simplify the dog’s diet and keep it from stealing. But with Jess, the major problem was the owner enjoying feeding and taking care of Jess too much. So instead she gave her healthier alternatives so the owner could keep showing her version of love while the dog gets healthier

You know I have to give credit to Gizmo's mom; I have a lot of respect for how she handled herself as an owner. That woman didn't need to be told twice when told her dog had a problem by a professional, and she dedicated herself to fixing it the first time. She learned to love that dog the way he needed to be loved to have him around as long as possible. THAT is what a responsible owner looks like. Be about their best interests, not what's cute or convenient for you. Well done madam!

i mean yeah. personally this is the first time i have heard that avacados and cherries are bad for dogs, but thats because it has absolutely never crossed my mind to give my dogs any of those! but i swear i thought it was common knowledge to any random person that dogs shouldnt have raisins or grapes, let alone CHOCOLATE... @@patriotretiree903 actually, that isn't the problem with grapes. Grapes have a toxicity to dogs which if i remember correctly can cause kidney damage/failure in dogs.
I was so happy for Gizmo's progress. I have a softspot for chihuahuas. Hattie's second weigh in beside the others was so sad. And Jessie's relapse was too.
Watching owners let their dogs become obese breaks my heart. I've been obese or overweight a large part of my life but I never let my pets see the same fate. Every time my Luna saw the vet before her sickness she was a perfect weight. She just ate her "balanced diet" kibble with the occasional unseasoned/uncured meat treat or veggie and she was happy.

Onion, garlic, macadamia nuts, alchohol, chocolate grapes and yes, raisins are all toxic to dogs. Not just makes them sick, it's all TOXIC to dogs. It's sad how many people don't know this.

For real. We had an elderly dachshund who always got into the trash. We just put screws on it so the lid couldn’t come off and hooks and cables attached between it and a corner so she couldn’t knock it over.

Either she buys a dog treadmill so she can supervise her kids and the dog at home, or she gives up the dog. It is so frustrating to see that the dog is capable of following weight loss regime only to gained back all the weight it had lost.
Same thing happened with my family when I was 5. School started, everyone was bragging about their dogs, so of course I begged my mum for one. I think he only ended up going to one training session in the 2 1/2 years we had him. Kept and slept in the same room the whole time because we had cats in the rest of the house. Thankfully, we had to move to a new house that didn't allow dogs, and he went to live with someone who gave him a much better life while he was still relatively young.
I don't know if it's just a thing with single parents, especially since we don't know the circumstances surrounding this specific family, but I think its an attempt to make a 'proper family structure'. 2.5 kids and a pet, you know? Regardless of if they can actually take care of the pet.
@@CoRLex-jh5vx I think it’s also a mix of laziness.. walking the dog, going to the park and play can be an amazing opportunity for the mom and her kids to play together and spend quality time together.
They should rehome the beagle. Obviously not dedicated.

Jess is the mom’s dog and the daughter owns the other one. I think the second dog just comes with the daughter. Or if they do live together, they consider them separately owned

Gizmo is probably the moms favourite while the other dogs belong to the rest of the family so they could be treated the same but gizmo gets more attention from the mom who also feeds him more.

For me it seems like the beagle's owner doesn't give a f about her dog. She lives in a messy house and expecting her dog do not cause mess, she is saying "i cannot do anything about her weight or behaivior" meanwhile doing NOTHING to help it. The only good thing she did was asking for help of this program...

She may be overwhelmed. She appears to be a single mom. Her home is a good indicator that isn’t able to handle normal life responsibilities. I wish she would try rehome the dog to a family that can commit to her.

I'm so surprised that they didn't go over how toxic grapes are for dogs. Just one grape has the potential to shut down a dog's kidneys and by the time you see symptoms, it's basically too late.
Edit: Oh, I just watched Victoria mix garlic powder into the homemade dog treats for the beagle as well as saying that "dogs love garlic." The small amount she added to the food would likely have no affect, but a doggie nutritionist, she is not.
Garlic is actually totally fine for dogs.

I don' get how can they not be shocked when their dog weighs more than the standard accepted weight limit for a suitcase (23kg or 50lb). I STRUGGLE when I carry around luggage that's around the weight limit and this poor dog is 4kg heavier.

I feel like the only reason that dog is still alive is because a lot of cheap mass produced chocolates will cut the expensive ingredient (chocolate) with cheaper filler ingredients. Ironically, that chihuahua's life was likely saved by corporate greed.
This is true. I had a rat terrier who found a little bag of Hershey's kisses and ate the whole thing. The only thing I noticed was the little foil in the poop otherwise the dog was totally unphased whereas I panicked.

our dog knows that when we eat he goes into his crate because most of the time we feed him and then eat so he just sleeps while we eat and then obviously let him out when we're done, its a simple way to stop the stealing food
Chocolate.... for a dog!?!?! People are nuts! With that said... if your dog DOES eat chocolate, there is MUCH more theobromine in dark chocolate than in milk chocolate. So if your 80 pound lab gets into a hershey's bar and eats the whole thing, you need not worry much, just monitor him/her. But if the same dog gets into a similar sized dark chocolate or bakers chocolate bar? You should worry significantly more... especially if your dog is smaller.

Being the older daughter who owned Hattie. My mum loved and cared for her. She lived until she was 18 years old and my mum flew her across the world and rescued an already very overweight Hattie from a puppy farm. Hattie lost loads of weight.
I’m glad Victoria took her away. That poor dog had no chance.

A couple years ago my dog ate 7 grapes and thank god I knew about it because I was able to rush her to the hospital. She got her stomach pumped and is totally fine now, but no one’s even brought grapes into the house ever since. I’m glad people know not to feed chocolate to their dogs, but I wish more people knew about grapes they’re so much more lethal

When I rescued my dog, she was still quite young and a little underweight. I fed her a lot, her food bowl was actually always full cause she seemed to never be hungry. Once she started eating well, she even grew a little bit and then started to gain a bit too much weight. We’re talking 0,5-1,0kg too much. Once I noticed, I immediately cut back on her food intake and took her out for more runs. Within about a month, she was lost that kilo and still gained a lot of muscle. She’s now a grown dog that looks very healthy and athletic.
Yes, it’s easy to overfeed your dog. You just have to notice at the beginning and do something about it.
I’d like to have my dog for many more years to come so I make sure she’s as healthy as possible!
