Pioneer has got that good sounding lower frequencies, but Yamaha's mid and highs are well-balanced.

The DZR is one loud speaker! Its voiced totally different to any other speaker in this range. I feel it brings 80s music to life and for a singer would be amazing. Now, the Pioneer also sounds great, and you may notice the top end extends further. The Yamahas cuts off around 18khz, so you miss the sweet top end BUT!!! At loud volumes this is the area that gives you ear fatigue at extreme volumes, so in tests, the Yamahas are so much more comfortable to listen to at loud volumes for extended period of times. Just my thoughts.

I was only able to test in 40 m².
Later I'm going to do some big tests outdoors with friends and with subwoofers.
There will be: fbt, acoustics, martin audio, rcf, pioneer, ev, jbl, etc ...

when you are over 30 yrs old it does not matter if it goes beyond 18kHz :D

Very true! I've tried my best to look after my ears though so hopefully can still hear the sweet highs.

Nice comparison demo! In default setting, the Yamaha DZR range, including the 3-way DZR315 (I own 2 of these as well as 2 DXS18XLFs), has the EQ off and operation mode in normal. To achieve optimal performance from the top boxes, one has to turn the EQ on to engage Yamaha's Advanced FIR-X tuning, and select FOH as the operation mode as it appropriately employs Yamaha's D-CONTOUR compression technology for loud operation. Most of the complaints about suboptimal or mediocre performance resulted from this oversight. I hope you had all these settings adjusted, otherwise you may want to repeat the demo to see any difference.

I think you have to repeat this test but with another more concrete song I think a raggae song would make a clear difference between these speakers, at the moment I feel that yamaha would be better on voice

Yes, I will do a real test again soon (outdoors and with subwoofer because here it was in 40m² and without subwoofer) and with different styles of music

@@ordisono6816 To test tops you must not use subwoofers it changes the results, use only tops and if you could, use smaart to measure things like in what position of knob volume is 0db for each one, with ears is impossible to know some of these really important things
