My husband is out for the afternoon so I watched you on the telly instead of my tablet. I had my cup of tea and honestly felt like the two of us were just having a heartfelt chat. Oh many times I've lost my sewjo! I think you are smart to just sew something quick and easy. It's wonderful that you are able to step back from your job and look for something more fulfilling. Someone once told me follow your passions. My passion is sewing so I started my own alterations business. I also worked full time at a daycare. I love doing wedding alterations and seeing the joy in a bride's face when her dress fits perfectly. It is hard when, even though other people say you look fine, but you are not happy with your size. It's a struggle and definitely a more female thing. I've felt like that for most of my life, and I know it's crazy. It's probably because i grew up super skinny and of course my body changed after 2 pregnancies and my stomach never was the same. I see my body so differently than others see it. I will watch that vlogger you recommended about decluttering, my husband and I have been trying to do that since I retired a few months ago. You are so lucky to have the sewing shows to go to. There is nothing like that where I live in Canada. It would be so much fun just to go and see new things and of course tough the fabrics. I would be so star struck seeing all the sewing vloggers. Sometimes I have so many ideas in my head of what I want to sew, that I get overwhelmed and don't sew anything. I think following some of the challenges has helped my focus on what to sew. I knew for the sewfrugal I wanted to stick to basics. And there is one in April, sew a blouse. I have some ideas for that and I actually need some in my wardrobe. I also have few WIPS, one being a pink gingham Heather Blazer. Perfect for wearing when I go out for lunch with friends or even just doing errands with my husband. I look forward to seeing what you have made for sewfrugal. I should be cutting out some things, but my sister just texted to meet for tea. So guess what I'm going to choose!?
Aahh bless you what a lovely message to receive. I think getting involved in the challenges is such a good idea - it really does help. I’m hoping to be involved in the sew a blouse challenge too. Hope you had a lovely tea with your sister. Thank you so much for your message 🥰
Hi Angela, it is such a shame that the school wasn't the right job for you but it is important to take a step back to re-evaluate and find what you want. There is nothing worse than doing a job that isn't right for you. I too have lost my sew-jo, for similar reasons to you. I hadn't sewn anything since November but in March I started to get back to doing a little bit. I love making baby clothes and have made so much for all my friends when they had little ones. But now that I am expecting I am finding it so difficult to find the motivation. My sewing room needs a good declutter but actually I will be losing that space soon. I have far too many fabrics and patterns to even know where to start. I actually stopped watching TH-cam until yesterday because it was all a bit much. But I am determined to find the time and space to sew over the Easter holidays. The stitching show looks fun, I have seen a lot of people talking about it on here and Instagram. I am amazed that you didn't buy any fabric though I can never avoid it! I hope you manage to get your sew-jo back soon x
Take your time to enjoy your home and creative life! After your planned vacation, something will pop up to inspire you. One day at a time….but appreciate each day in your heart. Who among us hasn’t needed to reinvent ourselves a bit as we transition thru decades? Each decade has its interesting and fun times. Just flow and go. Your sparkle stays despite an extra inch here and there!
I love an action plan!! You got this. Try not to concentrate too far in the future and maybe limit yourself to one or two plans at a time. A clear sewing space will definitely help. I’m dreadful when mines not in order 😂. Was so lovely to see you again ❤
Oh I really feel for you, I’ve been exactly there except I couldn’t quit my boring job. My changing body also made me loose my sewjo for dressmaking, none of my old patterns fit me anymore. The longing for sewing was strong though and at 58 I suddenly I got the idea to start my small business (on the side of my job) and started sewing cushions from second hand textiles! That way I got to sew and create and use up old curtains and clothes and what not and get a little bit of money on the side. That was 12 years ago and I have kept sewing and developing my collection with bags and lots of other things and lately jackets. In the meantime I found a new style in clothes that I felt good in and started sewing for myself again. Now I’m retired and sew more than ever and enjoy life immensly! Much love to you with a hope that you find your inspiration and sence of calm and harmony in your life 💖
Hello Angela, I had a revisit of all my fabrics and declutterred a dozen earlier in the year, I also revisited my WIPs and recycled 3 of the projects as I was never going to make them. It feels brutal, but it’s very cathartic, good luck😊 Bobby
I lost my sew-jo for a bit. I still sewed, I made other things, like bags, and did embroidery for a bit. It was because I'd gained a bit of weight and felt as you do. However, I am now 72 and decided it's time I stopped worrying about my weight and embraced the body I have now - especially while it still all works :-) Enthusiasms wax and wane, it will come back.
It was so lovely to meet you at The Stitch Festival and have a good chat. I've been embracing sewing casuals, or just whatever takes my fancy while I'm not working. Enjoy making your plan, take the pressure off and dream, you only live once ❤
Hi Angela, Watched you yesterday and just wanted to say you are not alone and you made me feel like I wasn't either. My sewjo has been missing recently and I often can't bring myself to sew clothes I don't think i'll wear. I have also recently handed my notice in at work (only 4 days to work) with nothing else to go to. I was finding all the joy had gone from life. Feeling very positive now about a little me time and hope to get sewing again soon. Just altered a pair of trousers and planning to turn a dress into a skirt later. I need to find my new style after far too many years hidden under a lab coat. I think many of us need to get back into the old way of dressmaking ie buy a pattern and fabric and notions and then make that item - I find having so many patterns that I wont make(mainly from magazines) and fabric bought with no plan can make me feel a little overwhelmed. Look forward to watching your plans going forward and thank you for your videos - its like catching up with a good friend who understands sewing😊.
Oh no - not you too - I think lots of us have been feeling similar recently 😔 I hope that you enjoy your me time - sounds well deserved. and I hope you find your style too. Good luck with it all Thank you 🥰
I agree re job. If it is not what you need no point staying in it if you can do it. I left my small corpo very stressful job 5 years ago (mainly to stay with Alice) and I don't miss it at all. I, too, had to reevaluate the wardrobe I had and i am still not sure what my style is. I have home clothes (that i don't mind cleaning in) I am slowly working on making my "out of house" everyday wardrobe that will fit my needs. Re sorting sewing space-Alisa from Thoughtful Creativity did recently brilliant series about it. Anyway overall big hugs. I totally understand how you feel.
Aaahh thank you for this message - it is reassuring that anyone in a similar situation goes through the same thing. I will definitely have a watch of this video - sounds like just what I need to watch right now. Thank you 🥰
I found what kicks my sew-jo into action is a special occassion that I need an outfit for! lol Take time for yourself to figure out what you want to be when you grow up! lol I've done it a few times!
Hi Angela I always enjoy your vlogs , you are alway so honest and speak directly from your heart. Your sew Jo will return just enjoy a little break , when I lose mine I tend to make a little baby quilt or something that I don’t have to worry too much about. Xx
I had a huge pile of WIPs and mending/alterations. Started to sort them out, thought to hell with this and threw it all out. Felt heaps better and haven’t missed any of it
I lost my sew--jo a while back, but instead of looking for it, I just let it find me.. if that makes sense. Tidying and destashing sounds like a good plan. Good luck with everything, Angela! We're cheering for you.
Hi Angela. Love your vlogs! I don’t think you’ve lost your sew Jo……. it’s just taking a vacation! 😂. It’s great that you have a plan , you are keeping busy, you are engaging with colleagues on various collaborations etc and you’re still talking to us! This blinking awful weather has been enough to depress us all, which probably hasn’t helped. Take the pressure off yourself and allow yourself some time and space, don’t rush and have fun! usually these things just seem to sort themselves out. Take my word as a “young” senior citizen I’ve been there and It usually all works out in the end. We’re with you my dear 🤗.
So pleased I watched your video as I was in a similar place 2 years ago, my job was just making me feel really low. I've done office work most of my life and 2 years ago I just found sitting still in front of a computer wasn't me. I gave my notice with no job to go to my hubby was so supportive and said just leave and take your time with finding something you'll enjoy. You've done the right thing it's good to take the time at home and clear your head and the right job will come along. My dream job would be to have my own fabric & sewing shop but that's not going to happen but I'm so glad I have my sewing room. I know work in retail in my favourite shop ( which is a little lethal as I keep buying things 😅) but I'm in a happy place and hubby said it's lovely to see me come home from work with a smile on my face 😊 x
It is great - if you are lucky enough and have a supportive partner to be able to do this - and like you this has been the situation for me - I am so so grateful. He he he - do you now spend all your earnings on the merchandise!!!??? lol! Thank you 🥰
Lovely that your hubby is supportive too. When I first started at Homesense I was buying everything, we have so many cushions and candles 😅...but I've reigned it in now ( Well I'm a little better than i was) 😂...if I worked in a fabric shop I'd no wages at all !!
Hi I totally understand what you mean about the wardrobe situation. Retired from teaching with a wardrobe of dressy clothes which aren’t suitable for my life now. I haven’t really found my new style but am slowly sewing things that suit parts of it. Just give yourself space with no pressure until you find the current you. Maybe try other types of sewing to fulfil the need to create in the meantime. Xx
Angela you are not alone. I have lost my sewjo many times. I don’t put too much pressure on myself but go with the flow. I’ll visit my sewing room looking through my patterns and fabrics. Then I’ll leave thinking about what I might want to sew. I’ll watch TH-cam videos including you 😊. I go on Pinterest to get some inspiration and motivation. Sometimes one or all of those things work. I’m trying to decide right now what I want to make for spring and summer 😵💫 decisions decisions! You’ll get back on track and when you do there’ll be no stopping you 😂 Always enjoy your videos 👗🪡🧵🥰
I know just how you feel as I felt very much like that as my shape started to change. I found a few things that I could make that allowed for fluctuations 😂 Your sewjo will return, just enjoy the break from it for now x
That was a very interesting chat and thank you for sharing your thoughts. In some ways it's reassuring to know that other people have dips in their enthusiasm. I've been in your situation in some ways though it won't help you to know my lack of sew-jo lasted more than 20 years! But I decided last December to try again. Part of my problem had been putting on a huge amount of weight about 20 years ago and instead of trying to find a style that suited me I started wearing things that just hid my shape. But now I'm looking more at making things that suit my personality rather than what I look like. Sorry that was a bit of a ramble but what I'm trying to say is that it will come back and you will enjoy sewing again - just try to re-learn to be yourself and not to put yourself down for gaining a bit of weight - it happens and you can still be happy with your body.❤
Thankyou 😊!! It is reassuring to know you're not alone in your feelings. That's truly inspirational and advice more people should hear, to dress for your personality!
Take the break from working outside the home and don’t feel guilty. I really enjoy your vids! sometimes we just need a sewing break and all of a sudden I get enthused about sewing and you will too!
Hi Angela, what an inspirational video. I go in and out all the time with loosing my sew-jo ,I haven’t bought any fabric in about a 6 months just because I was overwhelmed what I already got, I have decluttered a lot of fabric and sewed up even more, I felt really good to doing that, and I now have better control over what I have and what I’m going to sew these coming months . My style is definitely changing ,from what I loved couple of years back and what I love today ❤ I do have a lot of patterns that just don’t work for me anymore,so those are my next project to get rid of. Take care and hopefully you find something inspirational soon ❤
I always enjoy your quirky sense of humour. I cannot sew now or the next couple of months 'cause I'm packing up and moving to Western Canada, the mountains and my 3 adult kids. Sewjo always returns! Happy Easter weekend.😊
I enjoyed the vlog, Angela. I’m right there with you on keeping fabric purchases to a minimum. It’s my preference to buy for each project. I do have a small stash, but I’m thinking of donating what I know I’ll never use. Thanks for sharing!
Oooo I’m going to the Craft4crafters in Exeter too - on Friday. So I may bump into you both. Just relax Angela and go wherever your sewing takes you. Apart from my SewingFrugal makes, I’ve been making denim brooches from scraps and been just enjoying it. Really easy and using up little bits. Have a lovely weekend 😀
Whew! I've resigned from teaching just to sew for myself and others and to host retreats for other women with sewing in common. Don't stress! Do what you want makes you happy!
Hello, lovely to hear from you again. Please don’t apologise or worry if people will judge you, just focus on yourself and where you are now. I think we spoke before about making clothes that fit us now and we can enjoy and then make new ones when we change shape again. I enjoy Secret Life of a Seamstress as she does exactly what you are thinking, looks at high street for inspiration and finds/adapts patterns to make the look. Am sure you already know her. Also I find spending time with other people helps, have you got time planned with Helen, you could cook up some lovely ideas. Lastly I think the weather will make such a difference and when we start wearing lighter clothes you will be itching to make more. Above all take care of yourself and use this time to concentrate on what’s right for you now and chill. Big hugs ❤ xx
Loved this vlog and your honesty! Maybe go shopping… not to actually buy RTW clothes but just try loads of things on and see what you like honey, the colours, shapes, trends non trends, take some photos and use it for some inspiration xx
Love your “ geek right out” analogy. I would so love that. Maybe one day……😂. Good luck with your planning- perhaps some goals will help and focus on what you need to wear right now. I can’t add anything to what everyone else has said. 😊. Lnne
I can get overwhelmed with too much to sew as I teach sewing, so I decide what I want to make its always pattern first then fabric so I don't end up with too much stash, I only bought the Carolyn pyjama pattern at the stitch festival so now I have the joy of sourcing fabric for a sewing get away later on in the year. I think one garment at a time is the way to go xx
Thank you so much Julia. Ooooh a sewing get away sounds like fun - and what a lovely idea to make PJs. I love the Carolyn pyjama set - it's lovely Thank you 🥰
A change in employment situation, even one of your own choosing, makes for a tough wardrobe transition. My husband and I retired five years ago and we also moved ro a different climate. I've been sewing ever since because now I have the time after so many years of not having time to sew much but I still haven't figured out a "style". I also gained a considerable amount of weight during COVID that I can't seem to lose AND making pants terrifies me so there are a couple more wrinkles to the situation.I have tops upon tops and dresses upon dresses but very few pants that fit!. LOL! It's been interesting, that's for sure. I think the sewing challenges and collaborations will be a good way to get you motivated to sew something as you figure out what's next. X
In January I made a pledge to myself to complete my WIPs, I have now successfully completed this job. I also decided that I needed a way to organise my sewing patterns and for this purpose I have used Trello. This has been very beneficial because I have been able to discard those patterns I don't want any more and also I have revisited all of my patterns, which has been lovely. Lastly I am now organising my fabric stash in the same way. I have always had a problem of deciding which fabrics to use for which pattern. I now intend on spending some time creating a project board on Trello where I can do this so I will have some idea of how I will use my stash of fabrics. I have a very minimalist house and my sewing space is the only area where there is a lot of stuff. I have to have order for my mental health and having undertaken this process I feel so much better and in control, even though I still have a lot of stuff. Lastly I was in the same situation as you were in terms of a coat I had started to make and it was such a pain to make it took me a year to complete. It is now on the naughty step waiting to see if I will actually every wear it, so you are not alone.
Thank you so much for taking the time to comment - I really appreciate it 🥰 I use trello too - it’s so good and such a useful tool. Good luck with all of your organising. I hope it all goes well. Well done on completing all your wips too Thank you ❤️
Thank you for your honesty of words. I can find myself in a lot of points. In case of the jacket: I got used to finish it and Friends of my younger daughter love my pieces and I would give these pieces to them. As students they are quite greatful, so am I.
I feel the same as you! I didn’t buy much at the Sewing For Pleasure show, just some fabric I’d wanted before that had sold out. I have a stash full of fabrics I want to make but for me it’s a bit of not having much free time and so finding it difficult to get stuck into a more involved make, and my style changing so being a bit scared of tackling a new pattern and all the fit and adjustments that will be involved. But I’m trying to just focus on 3-5 pattern/fabric combinations I know I’m really excited about and tackling projects bit by bit rather than thinking I need 4 hours to sew in one go. But still lovely to go to sewing events and get inspiration and share our passion with like minded people 😊
Ah I’m sorry to hear you have been feeling like that too. Sounds like you are being sensible and kind to yourself too. I agree it’s still lovely to go to the events 🥰 Thank you ❤️
Thanks for taking the time to vlog, I find it difficult to do that when I’m not in the headspace to sew. I generally find I lose my sewjo if I’ve had an oversew but thankfully it doesn’t seem to last too long. It’s often watching another TH-camr that re sparks my sew engine. I’ve mostly avoided Friday Sews as I think I’d put pressure on myself to churn out vlogs every 7 days and therefore have to make something and I know that timeframe doesn’t suit my lifestyle. Just do you Angela 😍💕
Ditch the WIPs 😂 I totally get where you are coming from with everything else. We reach an age as women and I think everything just turns upside down. ❤
Angela, we all go through a slump with our hobbies. Dont beat yourself up, please. I had a massive closet clearout and it felt so go good to let go of things i loved, but wasnt wearing for whatever reason. Making way for whatever i want or need to make next. Im so going to watch your tutorial for the ironing joard cover. Im all ready, fabric etc. Have a great Easter 😊
Ooh - this resonates with me so much! Conversely, I have lost weight and nothing fits, and I am still trying to adjust to my new measurements. I also went to the Stitch Festival but only bought some buttons and a new rotary cutter. I have a wardrobe full of clothes suitable for work, but have not yet worked out my style now that I have retired, and reach for the same thing (aka jeans) over and over again. I'm hoping the spring and summer will resurrect my sewjo too. Thanks for sharing how you feel - just reading the comments below clearly there are many of us that feel the same way! xx
I don’t think I realised how many people felt the same. And while it makes me sad to think people feel this way - it is also reassuring that I’m not alone. I guess we are in a period of discovery about ourselves! Thank you 🥰
Totally agree with the not making anything due to body shape ! I’ve put off not making clothes for a year or so and concentrated on other sewing. Gradually realising that I am the shape I am and just get over it 😊
I loved the Stitch Festival - unlike yourself I did buy some fabric, but I did not go too mad 😊 I saw you at the Sew Over It booth with Karen on the Saturday , I was one side of the sample rack while you were on the other, but I was too shy to say hello though 😂 I really enjoyed the whole experience and ‘geeking out’ is exactly right - I was spotting you tube content creators and sewing bee contestants all day 🥰
Aaaah I so wish you had said hello - please never be afraid to say hi 🥰 I hope you had a fab time - and great that you had a few treats too. Go to love a little geek out 🙈 Thank you 🥰
Really enjoyed hearing how you’re feeling and what your plans might be for the future. Sometimes we need to take a step backwards and evaluate our lives and what we what we do next.
Thank you for sharing. I have just started sewing again after 25 years (long story) and can relate to your ‘what size to make’. In the last 10 years I have put on 10 stone, lost 4 stone last year and then put it all back on by the end of the year. I didn’t want to sew until my weight was better but decided, as you have, to make what I want to wear now (and I need stuff) and deal with what happens to my body later. Thanks for your insight. Good luck at getting back your ‘sew-Jo’ and once again thank you for sharing and ‘being vulnerable’ . It has helped.
Hi Angela you inspire me with your vlogs, I to have lost my mojo for sewing, however am going to get back into it again mainly because the clothes that are online are very expensive, and the cheap ones don't last , so if I make my own at least they will fit me and not cost a fortune, looking forward to your vlog on Sunday, Take lots of love xxxx😍
Angela, I feel like you’ve just put into words EXACTLY how I feel right now too. I haven’t lost my sewjo but my head is all over the place because I’m not the size I want to be either and it really affects you when you put so much effort into making clothes that may not fit. The weather and what feels like an endless winter is really getting to me too especially as I love wearing and making summer clothes! Come on sun 🙌🏻 I really hope that in time you get your sewjo back but I think you’re doing exactly the right thing and taking it easy. Great to see you briefly at the stitch festival 😉xx
Aahh Gemma I’m so sorry you are feeling like this too. You look absolutely beautiful - and you looked stunning in your blue dress at the show - really gutted we didn’t get to have a proper chat - another time hopefully. But it is about how you feel about yourself, and not how others per sieve you isn’t it! Thank you 🥰
The way I get back to sewing and my humble advice is 'don't sew', basically don't force it. For me, I do other hobbies, classes, visiting etc that need mental stimulation and or learning and of course some good 'ol belly laughs. When I felt like getting back into it, I tried quilting, small things ... no commitment. Quilting is not really my ' long term thing', but i was learning lots and I think that's important. After a little while I found I wanted to sew clothing a bit. I looked in my stash at that moment, grabbed a simple pdf I had and sewed a simple top. I then sewed a couple of simple tops and simple shirts, no obligations, no stress, then took another break. I felt accomplished and satisfied but i didn't want to get overwhelmed. My opinion is if you feel you have to do something or should do something (even self inflicted), it takes the fun out of it. Take life as it comes. 😊Have a wonderful Easter weekend. I hope the Easter bunny comes to you 🐇🐰 I always enjoy your videos.
Thank you Angela for the vlog and your honesty and openness 🤗. You’re going through some pretty big stuff aren’t you - job/identity and maybe a bit of empty nest syndrome? Enjoy just being you as you are today and find the joy in little things. A collab sounds ideal. Is there a local stitch and bitch group? Could you set one up? If I lived near you, I’d definitely join you as I think you’re so inspirational and so authentic! Watching others on TH-cam can cause anxiety and FOMO - maybe time to slow down and celebrate everything that’s right ❤xxx spoil yourself and enjoy Nature xxx you deserve to be happy 😊
Hi Angela, remember sewing is your hobby and it's ok to take time out and maybe even do something else for a while. I love sewing but I tend to make just one item a month on average and for me that's fine. I completely get what you mean about your 'working/lifestyle' wardrobe. I'm retiring from my job as a teaching assistant later this year, and I'm starting to think about what I want to wear once I no longer need my smart casual but practical clothes. It's good to make a plan and be more focused on our sewing I think. Hope you won't be hard on yourself and that you can enjoy this time away from 'work' while you work out what you want to do. xx
Angela, don't stress about working. Why don't you explore turning your sewing gift into a business. If you are at an impass with everything, 😊don't stress about that either. This weather has brought so many of us down. All we can do is say the serenity prayer. It works ❤❤❤😊
I can also totally relate to the lack of enthusiasm due to not necessarily being the size/shape you want to be. I am struggling with that a bit at the moment too - made a ball dress for a black tie do a couple of weeks ago, and whilst everyone else said it looked lovely, I just wasn''t happy with it on me! Still enjoyed myself at the ball regardless!! I am hoping to go to Westpoint, probably on the Saturday., but I haven't decided yet. Would be lovely to meet you if you are there. I live in Exeter so it's my local show!
Hia Claire - I’m glad you still had a good time. It is lovely when people compliment you - but it is about how you feel isn’t it sometimes! Aahh lovely - I’m still not sure what day we are going to go yet. Hope we do manage to say hi 🥰
Thank you for your vlog , I shall be going to Craft for Crafters in Exeter on the Saturday. I will look out for you. I'm sure you are taking the correct path to recover your sew jo , best wishes , Audrey
Hi Have been feeling similar started sewing again just over a year ago and even some of those now are a bit snug. Been making things in bigger size & mainly jersey. I am in Exeter & will be going to Westpoint next week. Not sure which day or days yet!!
Hi Angela! The chin wag! Ha ha ha! I have never heard of that saying before.😅😅😅 I think I have a little slow sew jo because of my weight. I'm trying to be happy with where I am with my weight, but... you know😢
Sometimes a good cleanup of your sewing room, declutter, and really think about what you wanna sew. Try quilting, I take a break from garment sewing, and do a simple quilting project, and that helps me get over the sewing funk.
Sometimes I think doing something that is still creative but totally different to sewing is a nice way to take the pressure off, maybe try something new or take a class. I think periods of not making are also an important part of the creative process, just like the seasons, there is a useful time when nothing appears to be happening, but future seeds are germinating!
I’m not sure your age but my heart breaks hearing most woman in perimenopause or menopause all feel the same frustrations about body changes and life reflections and style changes in life etc. it’s hormone changes it’s not your fault. I went thru it and I had no idea that’s what was happening and I was so frustrated and annoyed and baffled until my DR said sounds like menopause and I started HRT. It’s a game changer when you take control of your hormones when your body stops. Just food for thought. May not pertain to you but might to another woman reading this and it may help. ❤ thank you for all you do keep moving forward
I found the Minimal Mom a few years ago...definitely changed my house ! 😊
She's fabulous isn't she 🥰
This has been a great vlog and i totally hear you 💓one step at a time and embrace the activities and styles that bring you joy ☺
Thankyou 😊!!
Oh congratulations! It can be overwhelming but you are right you should make some time for yourself! Thankyou 😊!!
So true, words to live by! Thankyou 😊!!
I love an action plan!! You got this. Try not to concentrate too far in the future and maybe limit yourself to one or two plans at a time. A clear sewing space will definitely help. I’m dreadful when mines not in order 😂. Was so lovely to see you again ❤
Ahh thank you lovely 🥰
I'm getting there! ❤️
Much love to you with a hope that you find your inspiration and sence of calm and harmony in your life 💖
Wow, how inspirational, it's nice to hear others have been through this too! Thankyou 😊!!
Hello Angela, I had a revisit of all my fabrics and declutterred a dozen earlier in the year, I also revisited my WIPs and recycled 3 of the projects as I was never going to make them. It feels brutal, but it’s very cathartic, good luck😊 Bobby
Oh wow I think we all need to be brave like you! Thankyou 😊!!
Absolutely right, embrace what you've got!
It was so lovely to meet you at The Stitch Festival and have a good chat. I've been embracing sewing casuals, or just whatever takes my fancy while I'm not working. Enjoy making your plan, take the pressure off and dream, you only live once ❤
Ah it was so lovely meeting you too! Thankyou 😊!!
Oh no - not you too - I think lots of us have been feeling similar recently 😔
I hope that you enjoy your me time - sounds well deserved. and I hope you find your style too.
Good luck with it all
Thank you 🥰
I agree re job. If it is not what you need no point staying in it if you can do it.
I left my small corpo very stressful job 5 years ago (mainly to stay with Alice) and I don't miss it at all.
I, too, had to reevaluate the wardrobe I had and i am still not sure what my style is.
I have home clothes (that i don't mind cleaning in)
I am slowly working on making my "out of house" everyday wardrobe that will fit my needs.
What a great idea! Thankyou 😊!!
Hi Angela I always enjoy your vlogs , you are alway so honest and speak directly from your heart. Your sew Jo will return just enjoy a little break , when I lose mine I tend to make a little baby quilt or something that I don’t have to worry too much about. Xx
Thank you so much that is so kind of you 🥰
That's a really good idea - thank you ❤️
I had a huge pile of WIPs and mending/alterations. Started to sort them out, thought to hell with this and threw it all out. Felt heaps better and haven’t missed any of it
I absolutely love this!!! Thank you ☺️ ❤️
Happy Easter 🐣🐰 to you and your family!!!
And to you - Thank you 🥰
I lost my sew--jo a while back, but instead of looking for it, I just let it find me.. if that makes sense. Tidying and destashing sounds like a good plan. Good luck with everything, Angela! We're cheering for you.
Aaaah - that makes so much sense - thank you so much for your lovely encouraging message 🥰
Ha ha - I love this!! Yes just on hols!
Aaaah thank you so much 🥰
So pleased I watched your video as I was in a similar place 2 years ago, my job was just making me feel really low.
Xx
Thank you so much - very wise words. Really appreciate it 🥰❤️
Some great ideas to get your sewjo & motivation back! The weather is definitely playing a part in how lots of people are feeling right now 😊
So true! Thank you 🥰
Sounds like you are ready for the next stage of your life and are deciding what that looks like. Most of us have been there. I enjoyed your vlog.
Thank you 🥰
Angela you are not alone.
Aaaah thank you so much Sharon - such good tips and Inso, and thank you - I really appreciate it. I'm sure it will return at some point!! 🥰
I know just how you feel as I felt very much like that as my shape started to change. I found a few things that I could make that allowed for fluctuations 😂
Your sewjo will return, just enjoy the break from it for now x
Thankyou 😊!!
Ah was such a fab weekend! Had such an amazing time :) xxx
It really was - such great memories! 🥰
Thanks so much again ❤️
Take the break from working outside the home and don’t feel guilty. I really enjoy your vids! sometimes we just need a sewing break and all of a sudden I get enthused about sewing and you will too!
Thank you 🥰
Hi Angela, what an inspirational video.
Thankyou 😊!! Oh amazing it feels impossible sometimes to get through the entire stash, well done for cutting it back!
I always enjoy your quirky sense of humour. I cannot sew now or the next couple of months 'cause I'm packing up and moving to Western Canada, the mountains and my 3 adult kids. Sewjo always returns! Happy Easter weekend.😊
Have a wonderful time away.
Thank you 🥰
I enjoyed the vlog, Angela. I’m right there with you on keeping fabric purchases to a minimum. It’s my preference to buy for each project. I do have a small stash, but I’m thinking of donating what I know I’ll never use. Thanks for sharing!
That's such a good idea, why keep it when you know you are just never going to use it!!
Thank you 🥰
Oooo I’m going to the Craft4crafters in Exeter too - on Friday. So I may bump into you both.
Just relax Angela and go wherever your sewing takes you. Apart from my SewingFrugal makes, I’ve been making denim brooches from scraps and been just enjoying it. Really easy and using up little bits. Have a lovely weekend 😀
Sorry we missed you - we ended up going on the Saturday in the end!
Ooooh denim brooches sounds great.
Thank you 🥰
Whew! I've resigned from teaching just to sew for myself and others and to host retreats for other women with sewing in common. Don't stress! Do what you want makes you happy!
Wow what an amazing thing to do - that sounds wonderful.
Thank you 🥰
Hello, lovely to hear from you again.
Yes - Sally - is so lovely and I love her channel.
Than you so much for your lovely message 🥰
Loved this vlog and your honesty!
Maybe go shopping… not to actually buy RTW clothes but just try loads of things on and see what you like honey, the colours, shapes, trends non trends, take some photos and use it for some inspiration xx
Thanks lovely 🥰
Yes - I love doing this - just trying things on, for colour, style, fit etc - it's really helpful isn't it ❤️
Thank you 🥰
Love your “ geek right out” analogy. I would so love that. Maybe one day……😂. Good luck with your planning- perhaps some goals will help and focus on what you need to wear right now. I can’t add anything to what everyone else has said. 😊. Lnne
He he he - love a Sewing geek out! Lol!!!
Thank you 🥰
I can get overwhelmed with too much to sew as I teach sewing, so I decide what I want to make its always pattern first then fabric so I don't end up with too much stash, I only bought the Carolyn pyjama pattern at the stitch festival so now I have the joy of sourcing fabric for a sewing get away later on in the year. I think one garment at a time is the way to go xx
Thank you so much Julia.
Ooooh a sewing get away sounds like fun - and what a lovely idea to make PJs. I love the Carolyn pyjama set - it's lovely
Thank you 🥰
A change in employment situation, even one of your own choosing, makes for a tough wardrobe transition. X
Aah it does sound like you have had a journey too 😊
Thank you 🥰
I will be at the show next Saturday so if you are both there then I will definitely say hello!
Fabulous - still not quite sure when we are going yet.
Thank you 🥰
In January I made a pledge to myself to complete my WIPs, I have now successfully completed this job.
Thank you so much for taking the time to comment - I really appreciate it 🥰
I use trello too - it’s so good and such a useful tool.
Good luck with all of your organising. I hope it all goes well.
Well done on completing all your wips too
Thank you ❤️
Thank you for your honesty of words. I can find myself in a lot of points. In case of the jacket: I got used to finish it and Friends of my younger daughter love my pieces and I would give these pieces to them. As students they are quite greatful, so am I.
That’s lovely that your daughter enjoys your pieces.
Thank you so much for your message 🥰
Good to hear about your updates Angela! I also Love and live by the minimalist views of The Minimal Mom! Go Dawn! 🎉❤
Thank you so much! She’s great isn’t she 🥰
I feel the same as you!
I agree it’s still lovely to go to the events 🥰
Thank you ❤️
I'm on the decluttering minimalist way now. It's very cleansing! I've gotten rid of two closets full of clothes, it's great, you'll love it❤
Aahh how fab. I’m only just getting into it - but feel like a new person already 😂
Thank you 🥰
Thanks for taking the time to vlog, I find it difficult to do that when I’m not in the headspace to sew.
I can so relate to this - Thank you 🥰
Ditch the WIPs 😂 I totally get where you are coming from with everything else. We reach an age as women and I think everything just turns upside down. ❤
I think you are so totally right!!! And yes to ditching the WIPs!!! 🎉
Thanks lovely 🥰
Angela, we all go through a slump with our hobbies. Dont beat yourself up, please. I had a massive closet clearout and it felt so go good to let go of things i loved, but wasnt wearing for whatever reason. Making way for whatever i want or need to make next.
Im so going to watch your tutorial for the ironing joard cover. Im all ready, fabric etc. Have a great Easter 😊
Aaahh that’s really encouraging Annette - thank you. I think it will help too.
Thank you 🥰
Ooh - this resonates with me so much!
Gradually realising that I am the shape I am and just get over it 😊
Exactly!! Why wait - make something that fits now and makes you feel happy 🥰
Great vlog as always hope you get yourself going again sewing wise you now have plenty of time ❤❤
Thank you 🥰
I loved the Stitch Festival - unlike yourself I did buy some fabric, but I did not go too mad 😊
I saw you at the Sew Over It booth with Karen on the Saturday , I was one side of the sample rack while you were on the other, but I was too shy to say hello though 😂
I really enjoyed the whole experience and ‘geeking out’ is exactly right - I was spotting you tube content creators and sewing bee contestants all day 🥰
Aaaah I so wish you had said hello - please never be afraid to say hi 🥰
I hope you had a fab time - and great that you had a few treats too.
Go to love a little geek out 🙈
Thank you 🥰
@@DevonThreadTales
Well, maybe next time I will 🙂
Really enjoyed hearing how you’re feeling and what your plans might be for the future. Sometimes we need to take a step backwards and evaluate our lives and what we what we do next.
Thank you - yes I agree - just take a moment!
Thank you 🥰
Thank you for sharing.
Hey Sharon. Thank you for this - I think it helps to know others are going through and feeling the same way.
Thank you 🥰
Hi Angela you inspire me with your vlogs, I to have lost my mojo for sewing, however am going to get back into it again mainly because the clothes that are online are very expensive, and the cheap ones don't last , so if I make my own at least they will fit me and not cost a fortune, looking forward to your vlog on Sunday, Take lots of love xxxx😍
Aaaah thank you so much - that's so kind of you.
Yes - I guess the best thing is not to force it, thank you ❤️
Lovely to meet you on Saturday at the festival. Hope you find some projects that make you happy 😊
Thank you! You too 🥰
Thanks for sharing Angela 💙🧶🌈🍓
Thank you 🥰
Angela, I feel like you’ve just put into words EXACTLY how I feel right now too.
Aahh it sounds like you have really been sensible and made great decisions to keep you motivated in the long run.
Thank you so much for all of this 🥰
Have lovely Easter take care x
Thank you! You too! 🥰
Thank you so much for your lovely message. I really appreciate it 🥰
Hi Angela, remember sewing is your hobby and it's ok to take time out and maybe even do something else for a while.
Hope you won't be hard on yourself and that you can enjoy this time away from 'work' while you work out what you want to do. xx
Thank you so much 😊 I hope you find your new wardrobe too 🥰
Angela, don't stress about working. Why don't you explore turning your sewing gift into a business. If you are at an impass with everything, 😊don't stress about that either. This weather has brought so many of us down. All we can do is say the serenity prayer. It works ❤❤❤😊
Thank you 🥰 yes I am not going to stress about it right now - just going to take a moment and see what happens ❤️
Aahh fabulous. We are going on Saturday. Maybe see you there 😊
Thank you 🥰
Hi Have been feeling similar started sewing again just over a year ago and even some of those now are a bit snug. Been making things in bigger size & mainly jersey.
I am in Exeter & will be going to Westpoint next week. Not sure which day or days yet!!
Aahh we haven’t confirmed what day we’re going either - but maybe we might get chance to say hi if we happen to go on the same day 🥰
Thank you 🥰
Hi Angela! The chin wag! Ha ha ha! I have never heard of that saying before.😅😅😅
I think I have a little slow sew jo because of my weight. I'm trying to be happy with where I am with my weight, but... you know😢
Yeah - I know! I think more people think like that than we realise.
He he - really - I wonder if that’s a Devon expression?!?!
Thank you 🥰
Sometimes a good cleanup of your sewing room, declutter, and really think about what you wanna sew. Try quilting, I take a break from garment sewing, and do a simple quilting project, and that helps me get over the sewing funk.
Yes I agree a good tidy helps.
Thank you 🥰
Sometimes I think doing something that is still creative but totally different to sewing is a nice way to take the pressure off, maybe try something new or take a class. I think periods of not making are also an important part of the creative process, just like the seasons, there is a useful time when nothing appears to be happening, but future seeds are germinating!
This is so true - thank you. It’s definitely good to explore new things, and also to be patient!
Thank you 🥰
I’m not sure your age but my heart breaks hearing most woman in perimenopause or menopause all feel the same frustrations about body changes and life reflections and style changes in life etc. it’s hormone changes it’s not your fault.
Some great advice I hope helps whoever needs to see it! Thankyou 😊!!
Check out the book: The Starch Solution…it helped me and I love it!!! Hope you get your sewjo back soon!!!
Ooooh Ive just looked it up - that sounds very interesting. Thanks for the recommend ❤️
