      Same here! Love the applause at the end! Dead giveaway that this is indeed a Catholic Church: you can see the Stations of the Cross on the side wall.

    At St Michael's, the congregation is also singing during this him. Search my page for the same title above (including 2013) and you'll find a video shot from down below. In that one, you can hear the people sing.

      I agree - she is hyper (probably had coffee beforehand). You need a choir director like that to lift up the spirit, which makes the choir sing even better.

    The hymn is Anglican. The words were written by one of the Wesley brothers who were priests in the Church of England in the 1700s.and the founders of Methodism, which started out as an evangelical movement within the C of E.

    • @faithfulchristian9171
      @faithfulchristian9171 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes, but you must admit we Catholics, at this particular Easter Service, sing and perform the hymn beautifully.

      "Mark Williams" or whatever is the actual name. Troll gibberish bull crap and the phony Anglo Saxon name is a give a way that you are likely a (pick one) Russian/No. Korean/Chinese sock puppet trying to give traditionalist Catholics a bad rep as triumphalist bigots.

    words of firs 3 stanzas from medieval Bohemian hymn in latin
    4th stanza and alleluias added by Charles Wesley in 1939
    tune from Lyrica Davidica a collection of Anglican hymn 1708s

    • @jackmorrison7379
      @jackmorrison7379 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Indeed but wasn't John Mason Neale the one who translated the Latin and gave the English version of this hymn to the world? I recognize that extra stanzas from Wesley ( before 1939??) are usually not sung in RC and Anglican churches.

    • @Ofotherworlds
      @Ofotherworlds 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah, Charles Wesley died in 1788, just before the US Constitution was ratified, so he wasn't adding stanzas as the Germans were invading Poland in 1939.

  • @peterwarner358

    This tune is definitely from the Baroque period of Hymnody along with Judas Maccabeus, Mendelssohn, Nun Danket, Adeste Fiddles, and others.

    I use an ICS 4000 church organ at holy cross church in Harrison NJ, When I play it, I can't step on the pedals of the organ because it sounds weird, But good song, Maybe this song in B flat

    I believe the Lutherans uses the Jesus Christ is Risen Today Lyrics, the original Christ the Lord is Risen Today on Cyber Hymnal has twelve all the Lutheran Churches Publishers did was take verses 9 thru 12 and make their official Easter Hymn out of the final four verses.
    Verses 1 thru 6 are sung in Methodist, Episcopalian, and Presbyterian churches. verses 7 and 8 seem to not be used much any more.

  • @edwardfranks5215
    @edwardfranks5215 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    The parish is RC, the first 3 stanzas from Latin Hymn from Bohemia. 4th added by Charles Wesley priest of the C of E, tune by Vaughan Williams died about 1958 probably C of E. Who cares who wrote it as long as the theology is orthodox? FYI the RC church adopted a lot of Protestant hymns after Vat II precisely because the theology is the same in them and the tunes are so much better. Nice to see Catholics singing! in 1995 attended Corpus Christi Mass in Munich Cathedral - the Catholic congregation sang its heart out - Germans, Catholics or Lutheran love to sing!

      Sing we to our God above, Alleluia!
      Praise eternal, as his love; Alleluia!
      Praise him now, his might confess, Alleluia!
      Father, Son, and Spirit blest. Alleluia!

      This is a mashup I put together from the hymn and a copy of this first page of the Gigout... so no music written out.
      Take a look at the other comments on this and another of my videos with the same title. I described there approximately how I put it together.

    The organ drowned everyone out in this one! Pity, because it is a nice hymn, but maybe the microphone was too close to the organ?

      At least it's after the closing hymn, but anytime else would be sinful.

    • @mottledbrain

      True, but it indicates a lack of any sense of being in the presence of God Almighty in the Tabernacle. A Catholic Church is a Sacred place, not a social place (,as I see in my parish).
