Thanks a lot. I did it. It took around 2 hours but eventually it worked exactly as you described. Let me share a few notes: 1. Pay attention that screen screws are of a different size. 3 of them are the same but one is slightly longer 2. Be very careful for not leaving fingerprints on the screen. It is almost impossible so consider putting a "condom" in a form of some plastic bag on top of it immediately after you lifted it up. Cleaning the screen by a dry towel is a very time consuming process. Took for me a lot of time 3. My replacement digitizer that I purchased on eBay had a noticeably bigger bus cable (the one that has two connectors attached to it). So it was a pain in the butt to fit it inside. Eventually that was the only problem. I was not able to attach the digitizer tightly in the place were cables were connected. It is not very easy to notice but still it does not feel attached the same tight as original glass. 4. On a bright note it was relatively easy to disconnect the old digitizer. I did not have much pain with that. My old digitizer was cracked and It was harder than on video to extract it as glass was separated by cracks but still it was easier than I thought it would be. One more time. Thanks a lot. That video was more than helpful.

Watched this video on replacing my ipad air screen (or digitizer as I now know) as it was the one with the clearest instructions. I used a hair dryer as I didn't have a heat gun and I tested it all worked before I heat sealed the digitizer down. But I must say, a fantastic "how to" video which enabled me to do the job myself and save around £55 on labour. If you want to have a go yourself, watch THIS video. Also don't scrimp on the tools, I bought a cheap set off ebay and they were rubbish!
Thanks for this video. My little brother shattered his digitizer and replacing it at a repair shop would cost about €150. We bought a new digitizer including replacement tools for €40. Now i can do it myself and save my little brother a lot of money
done in 2 hours. was a little bit scary as the digitiser was havin 3 crack line. luckily i managed pull it off in record 7 minutes as it was also a replacement and previous repair wasn't good. there were hardened glue that i needed to take off. 1 and half hour i spent just for cleaning it. i put everything back within 15 minutes too.very happy with the result. thanks for guide.
Best tutorial. Short and to the point. I initially cracked the screen when trying to pull it off the adhesive and ripped the wires connected to the board. After your tutorial I did it correct.
Why would people give this video thumbs down i mean he was very clear , just keep in mind ONE of the FOUR screws for the screen is LONGER just keep in mind to put it back in its right place , thanks
Thanks for the video, it helped me to change my digitizer, although it's a lot harder when the digitizer in question is shattered! It helps to have a pair of tweezers and a flat thin metal removal tool to get rid of all the glue and glass. I wore goggles as well to prevent glass in the eye when trying to lever the screen upwards.
Yes yes, paper towels may contain hard abrasive particles that may scratch the fine coating on your LCD screen. But in all fairness, we've cleaned a tonne of LCDs over the years, and when your trusty microfiber cloth is all completely gunked-up, a clean paper towel and a bit of alcohol is the next best thing once in a while.
So you don't need to add any glue to to new digitizer before sticking it down? Or does it come with glue on it already? I don't get how it stuck back in place.
Great video! I like the close up shots which is a big help. At the moment I am trying to lay the digitizer screen back over the lcd screen BUT the cables on the edge of the digitizer screen do NOT want to tuck down into the crack on the edge. They are applying pressure upward. Any suggestions? I do not want to break the cable or the screen I am not sure how much bending they can take. I double checked and they appear to be plugged in properly. Any suggestions would be much appreciated. 🙂
Hey man, thank you so much for the video, I installed a replacement digitizer in my air, took me a few hours (because of lack of tools and inexperience with apple hardware) but it works flawlessly! Thanks!
I enjoyed your video tutorial. I encounter some problem here. How do you troubleshoot if you have apple log blinking after replacement and then turning it on?
Thanks for uploading this, I can't believe how easy this model cracks. I only had mine a month before it happened by dropping my headphones a few inches from the screen.
Thanks for the video, the only I have is the home button which is not clear , my home button is not working ,I have slide it all the way through and please advise. Thanks
It is recommended that you disconnect the battery before disconnecting the screen and digitiser and only reconnect the battery after you have reconnected the new screen and/or digitiser.
Hi, after replacing the screen and home button on my iPad Air, my smart cover locks the iPad when i flip it to the Back, Do you know what could it be? Congrats on the video...! Thanks
Thank you for the thorough and concise instructions. Despite adequate heat and very gentle prying, my digitizer shattered into fine glass powder almost everywhere I wedged the pry tool. Any wear on the LCD is very visible without the digitizer, and mine was well worn so I ordered a new one.
Very good video. Thank you. Most new digitizers have a plastic film on the inside that needs to be removed. If so, never touch the inside of the digitizer.
Thank you a million! I had a question about the Vaio SVD112 DUO screen; I have one, and unfortunately, some sticky liquid is leaking, I think it is crystal liquid, but is it possibile to separate the digitizer from LCD carefully and clean this viscous liquid? Honestly, I don't know what the problem is, and also I wonder why that sticky liquid does not exist, for example, between the digitizer and the LCD of this IPad? Thank you in advance for your response.
The liquid crystal solution is definitely not viscous. It needs to be well free-flowing to reorient crystals contained in it very fast on-demand to shutter the light to each individual pixel. In our experience, viscous liquids found in laptops/tablets are usually food related: pop, wine, juice. Sugary solutions become viscous after evaporating most of their water.
@@Laptopscreen Thank you a million! So maybe I'll able to repair it. Because the lcd works. But the touch screen, on the other hand, unfortunately does not work. And between touch screen (digitizer) and LCD seems something like glue.
Old glue is not as good as new, especially if you contaminate it with dust, lint, hair or finger roil. Its recommended to clean off the old glue entirely and use new adhesive strips. All our parts come with new adhesive strips installed.
What if the LCD screen was broken internally and the screen wasn't cracked. What then? Is it the same process except for the replacing of the lcd screen instead. I'm sorry if you mentioned it somewhere in the video and I just didn't notice.
No not at all! You can call it the heat pistol, heat device, heat exhauster, warm air source or even the heaterthingamajig, the possibilities are endless! You can also use a hair drier. The principle behind the action of heating the front of the digitizer is to loosen the glue. You don't have to use any heat at all - but the broken pieces of the digitizer will take longer to remove because they'll be harder to come off. There are also microwavable heat bags that some techs use to apply heat, but I've never tried them.
Yeah the glass is way too thin. My first gen has fallen many times and no glass damage. First gen also has a rubber seal around the glass that takes some of the force.
In most cases of a single disassembly the old glue is strong enough. If the glue is contaminated - finger prints, dust, fibres, etc - it's best to scrape it off and use new glue / fitted pads of double-sided tape.
The shields aren't crucial to the function of the device, but they provide longevity and trouble-free operation. Connectors can disconnect from bumps and vibrations, shields physically prevent it from becoming loose.
Im on the final step of putting everything back. The problem is when i lay down the digitizer to test it, there's ghost touch everywhere. i have to lift one side by maybe 5mm or so so that everything works properly. Now, i can't seal my ipad
Should probably check the connector, blow it out. Also cleaning the front of the digitizer with alcohol and a reboot sometimes helps to re-calibrate the digitizer.
@@Laptopscreen i cleaned the connector and now there's almost no touch response at all. Only response i get is, clicking the home button, and nudging the sides of the digitizer (it registers small movements). I think the screen is broken now. Maybe i folded the connector towards the bottom too much.
I personally think you should start on the left side. Because all of the cables are on the right. Also if you are reusing your home key ribbon cable, it is on the right side and you should be very careful on that side. I mean a xcto knife would ruin your home button cable. I almost cut mine. So be careful on the RIGHT SIDE. The other 2 cables are ok since you are replacing them anyway. After that and getting the camera bracket it's a easy repair. Take your time. Another thing sometimes on your replacement glass. There is a inside protective film. Make sure to remove it right at the point of closing up the screen. There are 2 films, but of course remove the outer film.
Repair..but some badly than before screen working yourself...move another list.. open some programs..what happened pls..help)!thanks.. LCD screen not damaged..
John, you could try wiping the digitizer's connector with alcohol. And if that deosn't help, you'd need to contact your vendor and get a replacement part.
That's unfortunate. Maybe whoever did the repair for you simply forgot to plug it back in. It s a simple fix really, but you'll have to get the glass off the glue carefully trying not to break it. Kind of like this video :)
The corner. Of my iPad glass is cracked should I get the digitizer or just glass replaced? Also can a hair drier be used if I have no access to heat gun?
Lock button = power button? Did it just stop working or was it damaged during disassembly? In most cases such parts can be acquired on eBay for a few dollars, however the installation may require gutting the entire device. We likely won't make a tutorial for that since we only supply screens, but an iFixit tear down would be a good start when preparing for such a job.

Please tell me I am really frustrated, half of my screen doesn't work when I touch it.
You forgot to unplug the battery just in case and one of the screws (top right I believe) is longer than the others so put it back where you unscrewed it from or risk breaking some internals
@@Laptopscreen but mine won't I don't know why, I made sure all the cables are connected and all the screws are in the right place but when I try to turn it on or connect it to itunes nothing happens I think the logic board might have died when I was replacing the digitizer
Good question. Primarily because bacteria are capable of interfacing with the innards of organic creatures only and wearing gloves is a must for surgical procedures on humans and/or animals. Electronic devices do not necessitate the use of gloves by default. Only really, really, really old computers from smoker's homes makes techs want to wear gloves. Wearing gloves just out of sense of safety is not intrinsically safer for the device: - Sweat builds up the gloves in minutes, but the job lasts about 2 hours. If you drip some sweat in the device it will likely to cause damage. - Gloves reduce tactile feedback when working with smaller components. You may not be able to plug the connectors in properly with-out the finer feeling of touch. Probably the most likely reason for some of the videos of techs working on iDevices in gloves - is because techs want to conceal their fingerprints so that Apple doesn't refuse the warranty; which would be illegal for Apple to do, due to the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act of 1975 - so there is no real reason to even conceal your fingerprints. Look at all the miserable techs wearing gloves in their 1+ hour videos posted along-side in the related videos --> You don't want to know what the inside of those gloves feel and smell like by the end of the video. Yuck...
Wearing gloves while cleaning the screen and re-positioning for installation is the most important step to conceal fingerprints. There is nothing more annoying than leaving those prints on the inside of your screen

Thanks a lot, I saved 200€ thanks to this
yeah the glass is not durable at all ..they should replace them but they arnt
I'm thinking... Diazepam
Thank you
broke my ipad completely, thanks.
You break by an inch you break by a mile.
You forgot to unplug the battery just in case and one of the screws (top right I believe) is longer than the others so put it back where you unscrewed it from or risk breaking some internals
Hey brother you are awesome
I followed the video now my ipad will not turn on at all
The one in this video turned on.
@@Laptopscreen but mine won't I don't know why, I made sure all the cables are connected and all the screws are in the right place but when I try to turn it on or connect it to itunes nothing happens I think the logic board might have died when I was replacing the digitizer
Why did you not wear gloves?
Good question. Primarily because bacteria are capable of interfacing with the innards of organic creatures only and wearing gloves is a must for surgical procedures on humans and/or animals. Electronic devices do not necessitate the use of gloves by default. Only really, really, really old computers from smoker's homes makes techs want to wear gloves.
Wearing gloves just out of sense of safety is not intrinsically safer for the device:
- Sweat builds up the gloves in minutes, but the job lasts about 2 hours.
Look at all the miserable techs wearing gloves in their 1+ hour videos posted along-side in the related videos -->
You don't want to know what the inside of those gloves feel and smell like by the end of the video. Yuck...
LaptopScreen.com Thank you for the comprehensive explanation. LaptopScreen.com
This is awesome! I have had nothing but issues with gloves and only use them to grab my LCD
Wearing gloves while cleaning the screen and re-positioning for installation is the most important step to conceal fingerprints. There is nothing more annoying than leaving those prints on the inside of your screen
