Thank you so much foe stopping in West Virginia. So glad you experienced Thurmond. And saw a little of life in the hollow. I am from a cola mining family. After World War Two my father worked for a mine. I was born and didn’t grow well and spent 6 weeks in the hospital when 6 months old. 78 years later I’m still around but we children scattered to other parts of the USA. But like John Denver’s song says “country roads take me home to the place I belong.” The hills call me always. I’ve mostly lived in the south and had a good life but the pull to find my forever home in the “hills” is ever present. Your video was great. I really love watching you. I do hope in one of your future huddle I will see you chose West Virginia. There are interstates and more accessible areas for a huddle but there are so many communities just a few miles from the major roads and cities that would forever be grateful for the community service you give to them. Your videos are so great and fun to watch. God bless and many happy journeys and may all your days be kind to you. ❤
Thanks for the trip down memory lane. I spent the summer of 1988 in Thurmond with a group of other people documenting the buildings for the government for future preservation. Loved the area. Met a few of the locals. When we were there, one of the buildings served as an operating hotel for the people who were white water rafting and the bank was a restaurant.
Now you know why it is called “Almost Heaven “. While you are in our great state you have to try something we are famous for and that would be our famous pepperoni rolls. You can find them in most small convenience stores, just make sure you get an original homemade WV pepperoni roll.
Enjoy WV. Quick history fact for you Todd. We live close to a historic landmark found on any WV map. Nancy Hanks birthplace. Do you know who she was without looking her up on the internet? I know you love history and WV is rich with all kinds of history.
Some of the most modern inventions came from our coal miners seeking to move coal more efficiently. We really enjoy your channel and the adventures you go on. Hope to see you explore more of WV!
That was awesome!!! Thanks for taking us with you!
Todd one of these times you need to have someone walk up and pick up your camera and do a "found footage" with your freaking out it would be very funny.
Abandoned buildings are interesting to look through. The stories they could tell. I’ve never been to West Virginia. Thanks for sharing.
New Tshirt, “that’s not logical “!! 😂😂
LOL
😂😂😂
You guys went on a "Sheila Drive" 🤣🤣🤣
lol well that's a new one!
Welcome to WV! So glad you enjoyed your adventure. Thank you for showcasing our beautiful state. I live about 40 minutes from Thurmond. I hope you came to Fayetteville to see the New River Gorge Bridge. It is the main showcase (other than the gorge itself) of the country’s newest National Park and a sight to behold! I hope the rest of your stay is awesome!
Thank you so much for taking me along with you to the coal mine which was pretty cool to see and learn about the miners. My great grandfather worked in the copper mines in Upper Peninsula in Michigan. It’s a rough job working the mines. Cool seeing the ghost town. The river did look rough. Hope you have fun white water rafting. Have a great week and stay safe.
Wild, wonderful WEST VIRGINIA!!!
That road was awesome you guys crack me up
Seriously wasn't sure if we were on an actual road but alas we survived!
C4YT= Safe Travels 🍀🍀🍀
lol, “I don’t think that is logical” is not what I would have ever heard from Todd😂
Those fans maybe for ventilation of the mine.
You two are hilarious…😂😂
Your videos are so fun…and very well filmed and edited…and you document everything so well and really tell a story at the places you visit.
Thank you so much!!
Great video tonight, the Bronco is really opening up the adventures. Be careful on that river.
Back in my Haz-Waste driving days I went I thru a lot of those town’s that were almost empty because the coal mines were closing it was really sad. I went to a lot of coal mines it was a adventure and nerve racking getting to them and sometimes having to get pulled up the dirt road mountains because the tanker was not full and all of the weight was in the rear no weight on the drive tires. We were in Beckley October of 2022 for bridge day watched people BASE jumping off of the bridge down to the river.
I can’t imagine how many people that event attracts a year - I’m sure it would be very cool to watch
Great to see you out adventuring again! Looking forward to seeing more of you both “tromping around” the eastern US!!
We went to the same coal mining exhibition last year, and we went white water rafting. I love watching your videos. We didn't have a TH-cam channel back then.
👍👍CFYT.
The coal mine was awesome!
I think I heard banjo's playing!!
Maybe a couple :-)
West VA gets a bad wrap. It is beautiful. The state long wanted to succeed from Virginia who was breaking backs of farmers in WVA pre-civil war by taxing their personal property meanwhile exploiting their slaves and refusing to excise taxes on their personal property “slaves.”. After paying so much in taxes, they were left without infrastructure afforded to now what is Virginia. Thankfully, parts are now becoming bedroom communities of Washington DC. I hope and pray for much business investment in that state (and I do not live there nor am I from there).
Great video I'm proud to go along. For the ride. mrDee
Thanks for going!!
Loved this one alot!!!
My hubby and I are Full time. We drove up to AK last summer. The main advice I would give you guys is to TAKE YOUR TIME!!!! Especially between Destruction Bay, Yukon and Tok, Alaska ( About 100 miles). If you have to overtake the opposite lane and go 10 mph, do it!!!! What an adventure!!! Get it under your warranty if you can! LOL!!! We did!
Just following the GPS. Famous last words. Like the time I was driving in a small Sicilian town and GPS insisted I go down a staircase!
Ha! Well.....maybe not always a good idea lol thanks for watching
😂😂😂
@@forgottenphotographyllc Part of using GPS is knowing when to ignore it! You are smarter than the GPS (hopefully).
* Note to self: Do Not go down a staircase even if GPS tells me to * 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Marc from Grand Aventure RV was in Thurmond WV.
You’re at the state park we have reservations at as we work our way back home to Florida in August. Looks like a nice park. West Virginia is a beautiful state with some scenic drives. Don’t know if you’ll pass thru Harper’s Ferry on your way north, but that’s another very historic area.
Very cool
Thanks for watching!
That was COOL!
I wanta see the kayak vid 😉
Coming soon!
@@SwitchItUpLife are you at the glamper? We left on Friday but we have friends who have a seasonal spot there. He is retired air force & a huge KCC fan…they’d like to stop & meet you if you wouldn’t mind…
That would be great - will be back there tomorrow late afternoon!
Another awesome video. I go to WV twice a year with the UTV to rode the Hatfield McCoy trail system. Thanks for sharing.
#livinrvisin did that same trip about a year ago. Same weather, rainy and overcast. Boy they weren’t fortunate to encounter a coal train. Stay safe, stay well.
Coal mining stuff was interesting, n then a very bizarre way to get to an old town. It did look like u were driving on the tracks lol. Great video! 🍻
Hey there - as always thanks for watching and taking the time to comment!
Congratulations on getting all of the states in the lower 48 visited. Very cool adventure! Thanks for sharing!
Thanks for watching!
Loved the videos!
Thanks so much! We appeciate you watching!
Wow. I enjoyed all the adventures you had in this video ❤️ I would have never gone in that coal mine!! I’m with Tod about the bridge crazy. But the town was like finding a hidden gem. Thanks for taking me along.
Glad you enjoyed it - thanks for going with!
We went through Beckley, WV a couple of weeks ago! WV is beautiful! Thank you for sharing! And Happy Father's Day, Todd!
Thanks so much!
Happy Father's day🎉🎉
That was a fun trip! Can’t wait for the kayak adventure!
coming soon to a channel near you!
Cool little town. Now I need to look up where this is and how close the ghost town is to my retired co-worker who moved back to West Virginia.
Welcome to our home state! Don't trust GPS; Google likes its shortcuts and sometimes those shortcuts are meant for ATVs! But yes our roads are that narrow and sketchy sometimes, just some are worse than others.
C4YT❤
Love the crow sound effects in you video. 😄
Heck no to the river.
Happy Father's Day Todd! --Jen
Happy Fathers Day to Jason as well!! Thanks for stopping by - heal quickly friend!
It's Happy James McGilley wanted to wish you a Happy Father's Day!!
Hey James! Thanks so much
Welcome to WV! Whatever you do, don’t take that rig to Beechfork State Park, you can thank me later! 😂😂😂😂
Thanks! What a beautiful state!
C4YT and God Bless
That was a strange adventure, but I will say it was interesting. Shelia, Todd could have lost his man card with some of his concerns but you just laughed it off.
Well many would say he gave that card up the day he screamed at tiny crabs the size of spiders but you know I've learned to just roll with it - I mean I am driving what's he gonna do - walk home?
@@SwitchItUpLife very good point, thanks for sharing your adventures
you need to get her to DR.
She will be ok lol
Did you guys go to Cass Scenic railroad?
No - but now I gotta look that up!
When did you guys come to Maryland?
C4YT
When did you get to Vermont?
We were in Vermont Sept of 2021 - our first year out. Hoping to make it there again during the fall foliage - we were too early last time!
If you’re going to go again you must absolutely go to the northeast kingdom and especially lake Willoughby
There’s coal in them there hills. SIU 💚💚💚
Chad you win the award for the fastest commenter on all videos!
Yea there is coal in them hills….But it ain’t coming out like it usually to .

What type of license do you need to drive your truck with trailer
In the state of Kansas (where we are licensed)the requirement is a non commercial Class A
@@SwitchItUpLife thank you so much .love you videos.
Thanks! Glad to have you watching

Thanks for watching and taking the time to leave a C4YT
I find it so sad that the coal miners who made the rich get richer, only earned 20cents for a lot of very hard backtracking, possibly deadly work & were constantly in debt😢. The rich people who owned the coal mines never had to do that hard work or lose family members from cave ins, etc.. I get it. It's always been like that and probably always will be. 😞😠
