The most important thing is doing what you love, and of course, profitability is a good factor too. Above all, the sky is big enough for all birds to fly; provided there are still humans, people will always eat, whether chicken or yam. Just do whatever you are in love with.
I recommend using tools like a wheelbarrow to help move the product through out the farm, creating a designated area to prep under shade and putting down some sort of ground cover to help with walkways. Keep up the great work. I'm inspired by the work in this video.

The durability or better still the number of usage is just once. They would wear and tear as the yams grow. And in some cases you could have the tubers growing out of the sacks

But based on what I just watched here today, a new idea just sparked in my head. Planting yams in bags would really help those who reside in states that have poor soil to join yam production. All you have to do is visit Benue State or any state or country with fertile soil for yam cultivation, load the soil into bags, and transport it to your community. Then, you can plant your yam. This method can be done for almost all cash crops. Yam, maize, groundnut, pepper, okra, and others. It is a good innovation. You can easily do it at your backyard even in town. Farming can be practiced anywhere. Kudos to all farmers watching this video and reading this comment. Thanks for the video

There is great opportunity in mechanizing many of these processes. I am hopeful that someone who can do this will watch this video and provide that resource.
Mechanising the process increases profits for individuals but what's wrong with giving jobs to many people who can't find work. Spread the joy around and help more of your countrymen to be successful farmers. When humans work together they become greater than the sum of their parts. Psalms 133:1 This is a secret most people don't understand. There are ways to increase productivity without mechanisation one of them is called method study. You can learn this in college or read books on the subject. They sometimes call it 'task optimisation'. Just growing yams in sacks rather than in the ground is one example of it. But with a little lateral thinking other good ideas can emerge.
I see your angle, but Technology is there to make our lives easier, that's why we use cars so we don't have to walk. Also, anybody who has plans of scaling their farm business will need to adopt some mechanics. Even with that, farming still requires huge human input.
It's actually great to let people know this method is possible. But I have the feeling that, that's all the producer wants us to know because I see that a lot of vital details were omitted such as average pricing for sacks, the types of chemicals used for treatment, close-up view of the exact positioning of the seeds during planting, etc without which anyone would make great mistakes. @@ChidavAgriculturalHub The Problem with this is that most of these yam seeds sellers aren't trustworthy as they mix other non white yams together with the Abuja and Benue yams. I bought some recently at mile 12 market in Lagos and despite his assurance I was still disappointed.
Yams are perennial herbaceous vines cultivated for the consumption of their starchy tubers in many temperate and tropical regions, especially in West Africa.
So this is real else where? I just did it on my own this year. And trust me, am enjoying the rate of the growth. There are some things I have learnt from my experience this year which I will improve on next year if Christ tarries. I did about 60 sacks this year. I intend to take it close to 200 next year. Nice one.
So nutritious, I have been practicing this this system for about 4years with a small quantity of sack in my compound and presently I have about 50bags. I actually started and playing without any procedure. I plants water yam and main yam.
You can visit any forest and get the soil. You can be gathering it little by little and before you know, you have plenty already. The good thing about this method is, you can control your soil fertility.
Why wait for the rain when drip irrigation can provide water the same as rain? A little bit of brainstorm will help my african brothers thrive. With drip irrigation, we don't need season to produce yam. We can produce all year round. We can even go further as producing sequently on a monthly basis. Yam takes around 7 months to get ready for harvest. We can put them by row on bags sequently and the harvest can be followed sequentky as well. In this case we utilise the area of production to its full capacity and produce more in a year round.
I don't think it's a matter of brainstorm, but a matter of cost. Sometimes these lands are just gotten for the planting season, sinking a borehole in a land that's not yours may be a waste and sometimes when the land is yours, sinking a borehole can be costly, so we can still be planting till we can afford drip irrigation

@@ChidavAgriculturalHub The Problem with this is that most of these yam seeds sellers aren't trustworthy as they mix other non white yams together with the Abuja and Benue yams. I bought some recently at mile 12 market in Lagos and despite his assurance I was still disappointed.

Yams are perennial herbaceous vines cultivated for the consumption of their starchy tubers in many temperate and tropical regions, especially in West Africa.
So this is real else where? I just did it on my own this year. And trust me, am enjoying the rate of the growth. There are some things I have learnt from my experience this year which I will improve on next year if Christ tarries. I did about 60 sacks this year. I intend to take it close to 200 next year. Nice one.
Particularly for yams, how nutritious is your crop since it seem you did not grow them in the earth?
The medium of growth does not affect the constituent of yam tubers.
They're just as nutritious as they would be.
So nutritious, I have been practicing this this system for about 4years with a small quantity of sack in my compound and presently I have about 50bags. I actually started and playing without any procedure.

You can be gathering it little by little and before you know, you have plenty already.

Why wait for the rain when drip irrigation can provide water the same as rain? A little bit of brainstorm will help my african brothers thrive. With drip irrigation, we don't need season to produce yam. We can produce all year round. We can even go further as producing sequently on a monthly basis. Yam takes around 7 months to get ready for harvest. We can put them by row on bags sequently and the harvest can be followed sequentky as well. In this case we utilise the area of production to its full capacity and produce more in a year round.
I don't think it's a matter of brainstorm, but a matter of cost. Sometimes these lands are just gotten for the planting season, sinking a borehole in a land that's not yours may be a waste and sometimes when the land is yours, sinking a borehole can be costly, so we can still be planting till we can afford drip irrigation
