- Two ways to connect flexible natural gas and propane pipes.
Corrugated Stainless Steel Tubing, or CSST, is a flexible tubing used to supply natural gas and propane in buildings. Compression fittings are used to make transitions between pipes. Here’s how they work...

I think this is the most perfect no bs video I've ever seen. I wish more people would give directions this. Thank you.
My favorite part was the heavy background music haha 🤘🏼😎
Great video. Perfectly clear and informative. Thank you.
Just an observation, the slip joint pliers are being used backwards in the video.
Nice
Can you tell me exactly what I need from proflex to get form the 3/4" csst line to 1" black pipe? I've searched for days.
You can use a 1 inch to 3/4 inch reducer coupling to reduce the size of the black pipe to 3/4 inch so you can use the normal 3/4 inch CSST fittings to screw onto it. Obviously if you do this the 1 inch pipe functionally becomes a 3/4 inch pipe and won't be able to supply as much gas, but that may be okay depending on what you are using it for. Hopefully this helps
@@averyalexander2303 Thankyou
@@ronjames4749 No problem
Saw an add for Bondic preceding this video.... don't bother ---
Way to use channel locks backwards
Used Home Flex and here's what I learned 1. Make damn sure the cut is absolutely clean because burs will cause leaks and might rip up the fiber washer as well. 2. After the fitting is installed and you're ready to make connections always always always use the best pipe dope and Teflon plumber's tape on the male threads. I unfortunately followed the advice of purist plumbers using just pipe dope and had leaks that were so minor they were undetectable using soapy water. The best way to do this is to first apply a thin coat of dope followed by the yellow Teflon plumber's tape. Wrap the tape so you have 2 layers and in the proper direction so it doesn't bunch up. 3. Take the time to do this all as perfect as you can because it will save you mega hours chasing down leaks caused by sloppy work.
Your not supposed to use pipe dope or tape you dummy!
And lastly leak test
when cutting csst beware the cut part is veeeeery sharp, like a razor ! i slipped up last week & an still healing. csst fittings seal properly when hand torqued.
Wow, this is the only video I ever seen recommending 1/4 turn past hand tight, I see so many of these over tightened, it’s an oring, why do people crank so hard on them…
Be careful when putting the o-ring on that it doesn't get sliced as you pass over the sharp edge at the end of the pipe.
Der Engländer hält die Pumpenzange soger falschrum🙄
Excellent. Straight forward information and demonstration. No BS wasted time.
Flip the channel locks around.
@John Chance Your right nobody gives a damn.
You call him out for not holding back properly, and your are correct. I can't stand it when people hold back wrong. Another peeve of mine is people like you who call pliers channellocks. There was no channellock in this video, just a plier. I believe it to be manufactured by Tekton (also an American company). Thanks Chap. Don't do it again, ever!
@@zeroheat5787 ok let’s do this bitch what pliers hardly anyone would call those pliers unless they are guessing the proper term is “grove joint pliers” ass hole 😂 STAY HARD!!
Nice!! The first video I accidentally found showing both Pro-Flex and Home-Flex together.
Nice job, to the point and easy!

When using Channellock Pliers as in this video, put them on the opposite way he showed you!

@@0714will The fittings appears to not need to be so tight that position of the pliers matters. So long as one can tighten the fitting sufficiently, wrench position does not matter. Lighten up.
@@alsnyder1660 he’s a purist
Slip joint. Channel lock is a manufacturer. Mine just happen to be Vise Grip brand, and I have Kobalt ones.
@@alsnyder1660 -- I had a father that did his best to teach me the proper way to use tools!
I have using csst since it first came to market and have never seen this garbage style before.
How do you replace the gaskets??
Cut it off of the csst
Junk
can you interchange home flex and pro flex fittings ? thank you
I am wondering why the maximum torque the installer is allowed to apply is not mentioned.
Instructions on home-flex for 3/4 say 90 foot lbs or as tighten until it won't turn any farther.
@@danieltweddell5973 wouldn't that destroy the rubber O ring? The man clearly said one quarter turn.
@@twinkie27271
I believe from watching the home only has the metal ring and that is what he's referring to torque to 90 ft lbs. The kind with a rubber o-ring is a quarter-turn after hand tight.
This stuff is a hell of a lot easier than black iron pipe
But a lot more things that can go wrong. Black iron pipe will last 50 years.
@@kCI251 with any luck, so will this, and in 50 years, I won't care anyway.😅
@@twinkie27271 There are issues with lightning strikes causing holes in CSST and resulting in fires.
I think copper is better but is not allowed in the US
What a great video
Did you use the same pipe for both of those fitting styles
No matter how convenient flex tubing might be, I do not trust it. Black iron or traditional
copper tubing are my choices. Flex tubing is too vulnerable to damage, and connecting
the fittings looks hinky to me. Things can go wrong.
I use a combination of flex and black pipe on strategic areas.
Solid... thanks!
These fittings leak easy. I find them with damaged pieces leaking all the time. .
Gastite is the best. Pinches cast hard making a durable connection.
Brilliant. Thank you!
How long do those rubber rings last before they dry rot and leak? Would it help to put Tplus2 paste on there?
Pro-flex (sold by Menards and Lowes), uses silicone o-rings.
Do you have a link to buy these?
I have to run Home Flex Underground pipe (or the equivalent) to a gazebo about 70 feet from my BBQ connection. I'm planning on burying it. Should I be increasing the diameter of the piping to handle a run of that length? Advice is appreciated!
Use yellow pvc cheaper and code approved. Make sure to sleave ie add pipethrough penetrations if your going to cover floor with concrete or pavers.
@@benram32 Thanks. You mean add an extra sleeve where you’re going under concrete or pavers? Also, my BBQ line is 3/4. Should i bump it up to 1 inch to carry the gas the extra 80 feet, or just leave it at 3/4?
There are charts to determine the pipe size required for btu of your BBQ and max distance. FYI you can always go bigger but never smaller.
It depends on system pressure and load.
Did you already do this project? If not, run a tracer wire with it also
Can I use underground?
CSST piping is not approved for underground installs
🙏🙏🙏
Channel locks are backwards
Wrenches facing same way
Why the hell are you making video's on gas pipe? You can't even use pliers!
😆
Used the channel lock’s backwards 🤟🏼
Slip joint. Channel lock is a brand.

Um, the holdback wrench needs to be facing the opposite direction. Numbnuts
