      OceanBlue we were the boys the Germans dreaded to see coming in ww1 and ww2. We got air power, man power, and a bit of sea power too. Trudeau might be demilitarizing the armed forces, but if we still had Harper, watch out enemies of Canada.

      They Canadian armed forces is one of the top forces in the world. Not in size but in training and tradition. It is now in a major re-equiping stage as happens every 20-30 years.
      Harper was the worse thing to happen to the Canadian armed forces. I am so glad the Liberals are in charge now. They tend to do well for the armed forces in general. They have made mistakes but they do well over all. It is just a propaganda myth about the Conservatives doing better when in truth they say they support the forces but then sell off it's assets.

    • @janetfromanotherplanet1301
      @janetfromanotherplanet1301 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Peorhum liberals? Haha! Harper was going to revamp the Air Force with F-35's and when Trudeau came in, he bought outdated CF-18 super hornets and scrapped the plan for F-35's.

    Having dual British-Canadian citizenship (holding a Canadian Passport), after Uni in the UK (where I have been brought up), I'll seriously be considering the CF as a career choice. I think the UK is going down a path seldom recognize or can follow, so if I can help Canada, I shall. I already intend to move from the UK to Canada after my education has finished. I already know the national anthem, and have almost learnt the french version by heart.

      What do you think about the US forces?

    • @boffinboy100
      @boffinboy100 10 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      awsomenoob26
      Well, like with the French Forces, my friends & I make fun of them, but I always afterwards emphasize the truth after. We have fun, but recognise the reality.
      I think the US forces are some of the finest in the world (not the best at everything though). I imagine (never met one personally) that all the ~1.5m personnel are well trained & capable of the job they are to do.
      However I do find that the politics behind the US Forces are more damaging than beneficial. Equipment for equipment, when compared to its Russian/Soviet counterpart, the latter's usually does the same job just as well, and cheaper. Perhaps if the US Military budget was smaller, and better spent, it'd encourage similar cost-effectiveness, and a better deal for the US Govt. The F-35 & M1 Abrams are examples of this. The M1 is a VG tank, but it costs big $$$, compared to a T-90 ($8.5+m to $2.8-4.25m - respective rough estimates)
      But back to the pukka forces, what they have at their disposal etc. Now that they've improved their M16 series rifles, I can't think of any serious fault apart from Logistics where an M1 as I remember (may be out of date - program was long ago) used about 4gal/mile, so every 4hrs there needed to be a fuel convoy, and the Iraqis & afghans waited and struck these.

    • @boffinboy100
      @boffinboy100 10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      mark blizzard
      A more accurate description of the T-90 is that it is a further development of the T-72. It proved itself in Chechnya, surpassing T-80s, so it is hardly a modification. In simple terms, T-72 mobility merged with T-80 firepower and (better) armour.
      Russians are very good at upgrading/modernizing. Latest T-72s (The B2, BM & B3 in particular) firing modern ammunition can still destroy NATO tanks and are a serious threat, not to mention the T-80 upgrades.

    • @boffinboy100
      @boffinboy100 10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      mark blizzard
      Re the M551, in one of my books, it described the Shillegagh (if that's the spelling) system as a "new definition for failure".
      I don't deny that height restrictions seems a significant setback, especially if during war, you need men ASAP. But I think with the T-99 Armata that is in development, this may be rectified.
      But re quantity over quality, post-WWII, the USSR focused ever more on quality, while maintaining quantity. We see China doing the same, modernising the PLAAF, PLAN, and PLAGF. SI rifle is now Type 95, not Type 56, new Tanks, new Ships, new planes etc.
      Tanks like the T-64 and T-80, were always meant to be quality, hence why relatively few compared to the T-54/55, T-62 were produced. But even then, constant modernisation, upgrading and new technologies mean that even the more 'quantity' machines like T-55s, T-62s, MiG-21s, etc, gain new properties and become ever more quality.

    • @boffinboy100
      @boffinboy100 10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      mark blizzard
      True they were, but MiG-17s shot down many F-4s and the MiG-21 was used for hit & run.
      For all its faults, MiG-21 was the best all-round aircraft of the 2nd Generation. Then, with modernisation, (especially the 'bis' variant) it became a very good 3rd generation, and with today's technology, the latest MiG-21s (MiG-21-93, MiG-21 2000, MiG-21 Bison, MiG-21-97) are in the 4th generation. The Russians claim that during trials/simulations, the MiG-21-97 (a re-engined '-93') beat an F-16 4-1

    To be a pilot you do not need to attend RMC. You can attend any University of your choice if you wish. There are two main entry plans for becoming an officer ROTP (Paid University at RMC or different school) or DEO (You get your degree then apply when you have graduated). High school you want to focus on Physics, Math, and Calculus, English is also important.

    @ Francis Xavier you say that to become an officer you need college education(degree), it is correct, but there is another way, when you go to enroll you will pass some exam to see where you stand if you get more then 85 % like me 89% i am eligible, after 4 years of continuous service to apply for a officer position. You are welcome, good day god bless.

    all pilots are officers so you must have a university degree. wether that is earned in a civi uni or at the RMC is up to you and your grades in high school. you should speak with your local recruiter to see what the necessary physical prerequisites are. you might not be able to fly a fighter jet but there are many other amazing aircraft in the RCAF that will rock your socks just the same.

      in the reserve you don't make as much and have less benefits. you only work when there are contracts for you. full time is the way to go for a few years. when you join they pay for you to move to your base and when you finish your contract you don't have to resign and can leave after the certain amount of time you are required to serve. they also pay for you to move when you complete your contract. the reserve doesn't.

    Hotels and fine dining, eh? Oh my yes, RCAF Personnel in Darfur, Haiti, Afghanistan, etc. ALWAYS stay in world class hotels and dine in 5 Star restaurants. Here's a free safety tip for you, do NOT ever let anyone give you an enema, you'd disappear.

    does the RCAF have any other attack aircraft other than their fighter jets? (or the machine guns on their griffons)

    • @jacksonparker8256
      @jacksonparker8256 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      hockeybum2007 just griffons and jets I believe. Contrary to what someone else said, we don't have any "attack helicopters" other than the griffin (if that's even considered an attack helicopter).

    • @ChinookFE147
      @ChinookFE147 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      At this point in time, the RCAF has the CF 18 Hornet as the sole fighter jet in Canada. The CH146 Griffon is classed as a "Utility" helicopter, which it can serve in several roles from troop transport, VIP, cargo. One of the other aspects it has it the ability to mount side mounted weapons which can be used for self protection of target prosecution ( CCA role). During the Afghanistan conflict it filled an escort role for the CH147D Chinooks a well as ground support roles using the side mounted weapons.

    If I come straight out of high school to become an officer could I then become a pilot without going to RMC?

    • @samoth9439
      @samoth9439 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Daundre Pryce Well first you have to finish college or university to become a officer, and second you don't need to go to RMC to be a pilot. You do basic training and then you do aircraft training in Prairie-la-Prairie, Manitoba. I hope that helped you out!
