- Basic Officer Training
During 9 weeks, the first part of the course verifies that each candidate has the leadership potential, motivation and ability to continue with leadership training. Each student will be assessed on demonstrated personal traits, socialization, general leadership skills that are common to both military and civilian situations. They will also be taught basic military knowledge and skills common to all members of the CF. Task procedure will be taught as the framework for the evaluation of leadership potential.
During 6 weeks, the second part of the course provides candidates who displayed the necessary leadership potential with the leadership knowledge and skills required to perform as a junior officer during a first tour. The focus will be on providing practical training and practice with an emphasis on military leadership.
Basic Training is generally conducted at the Canadian Forces Leadership and Recruit School (CFLRS) in St-Jean-sur-Richelieu, Quebec. CFLRS provides initial indoctrination to the rudiments of military knowledge and leadership together with the fundamental ethics and values that characterize the profession of arms.
Just completed my BMOQ. It’s definitely a highlight in my life.
I will be going my BMOQ in 3 weeks; would appreciate to hear your experiences / recommendations? :)
Thank you for your service for our country!
Yes, they go through Second Language Training which lasts from 2 to 9 months, depending on your level.
You don't simply get promoted for being a certain rank for (X) amount of years. You have to take lot's of leadership courses, and show an extreme amount of merit to receive promotions. Unlike the American military, where you have 20 year old sergeants.
Yes you do. All officers need to take this training. I'll hopefully be doing it this summer.
This is great! I put in component transfer from army to air force to become an officer. I'm going on aircrew selection in few weeks and hopefully i'll be able to do BMOQ!
Served from 1997 to 2009 It was the best time of my life and wish I had served longer! Never give up!
What was your occupation?
Why didnt you
i can't wait until i'm 18. I'll be joining the officer program and I'll finally be able to put myself through the greatest test of my life.
I hope one day to join the medical service of the Canadian Army
Ethan Hartmann I plan on joint as a medical officer
Joining and if your under 18 I would recommend cadets
I know right!!
Same here, being trying to find how to join as a Mental Health nurse but finding it difficult to come across any content on that topic.
@aerhearts Not really, as long as your body can handle it then you can be stationed. She said she was 40 which is nearing the limit but obviously they deemed her in well enough shape to carry on.
Shambolic!!
You will do an apptitude test and you have to have some post secondary requirements like a degree but sometimes if you have solid college or highschool grades they'll send you to school at the militarys expense to put you into ROTP
A pass on the cf express beep test is easy (only a six). If you plan on attending rmc though you have to get a nine and a half. That's for guys for girls it's four on the cf express and seven and a half on the cmc.
I'm joining as a reserve infantry officer... at the Montreal royal regiment.... so excited for it.... loved your video
Are you still in the reserve?
Yep. As far as I know officer training is basically basic training but has a lot more leadership and quick thinking.
yeaahh!!!.. Soon I will have the opportunity!! very soon! .. I really admiree your work and passion, I hope soon to be part of it .. hoo ahhhhh!!!!
There are different ones for different units, and different regiments. For example, the Cameron Highlanders of Ottawa have their C.O. shout "Camerons!" and the men answer "Advance" and they do it 3 times "Camerons - Advance! Camerons - Advance! Camerons - Advance!"
THing is though, you need your degree. And there is a reason why those enlisted guys with degrees chose to be a NCM. But the idea that you have is agreeable.
@mrwonderfulman2011 I got mine from a canadian source, the fort york armoury. Canada probably pays better since alot less people are willing to join the military, especially people with university degrees. I don't understand how you could bring up American salaries when we are talking about Canadian salaries. If you wanted to prove that the Canadian salaries are lower because the American salaries are lower than you would have to prove a high correlation value between the pay scale over time ..
Goodluck Sanju!
@SuperEpicWin Yes, they train in the same place (in the reg force, anyway), and the courses are similar in length and content, but Officer Cadets and Recruits are segregated into different training platoons with independant command structures. Also, Officers get treated a little better, but are expected to take more responsability for their course's administration and are put in charge of a section during their field excercises.
@MsReneeMonique aw noooo, I've only taken french in grade 9 and I'm halfway thru grade 11 now. Even then I only managed to pass it with a 62% oh well, I'll just learn it then d: thanks for the info!! :D
1 more year and this is me :) 82 average with lots if sports involvement. I hope i get in to RMC
trainig course yay
I'll be there.
I'm joining the Canadian Forces when im 19. I would really be proud of myself if I was able to compete all of this! :)
Did you do it?
Aloha!
@private007chief salary starts at 55k a year... then in 5 years it increases to 75-80k when ur a captain
lol, the Sergeant at 7:19 was there when I did my BMOQ. He was part of the CBRN cell.
How long is the training? 3 months? 4 years??
Can I be an officer if I finished studying in a foreign country?
Yes, but you have to obtain an equivalence from one of the 6 agencies accredited in Canada
Put them on AIC in old days see how many make it just saying.
The greatest test of life is just being an honest human being who works hard in this world, not living in a bush and doing lots of push ups. lol
More fun than joining the military Jesse :)
What is the war cry of the Canadian Army?
yes
@fightingBRITISH Im not in the military myself though I think it depends on how high is your position in the chain of command.
@awesomeguy1979 Hmmm... min.wage with no or little benefits, or Cf with more money and more benefits? what should I do, oh and I get the satisfaction of knowing I will die fighting for my countrys freedom......
I already gave you all the info you needed if your too lazy to do something so simple such as typing a few words into google then the military probably isn't for you. And if you somehow can't find it and are considering the army they'll give you everything you need at the armoury.
Can a person with Canadian civilian degree be accepted here?
whats a pass on the beep test?
i started smoking when i was in high school, i kno i will have trouble, but is it a bad thing if i smoke?
Is SFU one of the accredited university?
So when I enlist I just tell them I'd like to be a officer and they'll send me to the course what are the requirements?
Do u get a higer rank if you continue on to rmc after bmoq ??
Do You need to speak French as an officer?
You spelled training wrong.
@mrwonderfulman2011 Actually every single officer position does. After your 4 years your guaranteed $69 500 then it goes up every year after that and then you also get tax free bonuses and signing bonuses. But you start off making $48 000. If you become a general they make a shit load of cash, massive signing bonuses and tax free bonuses then plus their flat rate. If you include everything they make the equivalent of about $800 000 to a mill a year, but almost noone becomes a general and you...
Can wait apply s Combat enginner
how did that go
I’m sorry, I missed this. Can anyone tell me why the candidate did poorly at the security detail from 7:35 - 8:05 ? Was he not not being firm with his voice? What should he have done?
As a leader you need to utilize your people. He should have delegated a fireteam to interview their suspect. The IC needs to be focused on the bigger picture and supervise. There's a fine balance between being present and doing too much of the "hands on" work. If you are going on BMOQ that will be something that you need to learn, trust your people, recognize their abilities and delegate accordingly, know when to step in. If I was the instructor that is what I would think was the issue.
Jared, very nicely put!
do officers train separately from regular recruits?
Yes tbey do they are officers you idiot
trainig...
@mrwonderfulman2011 between American and Canadian pay rates. Go get the info and you'll see it's that easy.
@awesomeguy1979 you can't be an officer in the military unless you have a university degree
if u knew my master seamen you'd be scared...
Was it Mamalego? He was a legend at CFLRS
@awesomeguy1979 more money....flipping burgers?
i would say a prospective officer is wise to see the world. so heres Amazigh people>>>watch>>"EL BAHDJA MARRAKECH 2010.AMAZIGH WOMEN.OULED AND BNAT BLADI.MOORISH LAND ".....................welcome to the Rai scene.
@awesomeguy1979 wow where do you flip burgers? You make over $70 000 a year flipping burgers, must be a new promotion by Mcdonalds
No but you probably need to know how to spell basic words
@awesomeguy1979 What a contradiction, yes, maybe they will stay alive longer, but only to a point we are defenseless to the amount of Military personnel you are trying to convert to flipping burgers, and with that, don't have a strong military force.
@mrwonderfulman2011 had to of been in the military for 15+ years. The pension is good, it's great if your in for 20 years or more, at 20 years your guaranteed at least $70 000 per year.
Troll harder. 1/10 for making me reply.
