In short… the *"bad ending"* I accidentally triggered was actually the *"less bad ending" ?* In my version I left my dead kid behind, burned his picture and moved on (dealing with the pain of a loss is a mature ending). In this "good ending" I kill all of the people of a random plane, hoping a compatible kid will survive the crash, kidnapp and impale him alive to save my own son… that at the end become a monster anyway?!?!? *That's NOT a good ending from any point of view !!!*
There's an alternate ending where you shut down the artifact, sacrificing Timmy to end the cycle. The plane that you could've took down to save Timmy flies by you after you leave the facility. After the plane passes, then character you play as takes outside a picture of Timmy and burns it.

Not only do they have to deal with surviving in nature, they also encounter many weird occurrences and seemingly supernatural places and beings that are slowly uncovered as they explore and learn about the island. Really good, one of the best TV shows of all time.

I always thought that the reason timmy mutates in the final cutscene was because someone had removed the sacrificial child his father had kidnapped from the plane he brought down and put in the relic. Like a fked up cycle, that parent would then down a plane to kidnap a child to resurrect their child and so on and so forth.
@@duffahtolla yep it's the edited or 'additional' ending. I like how Timmy is grown up, but the fear from the host's face made it so real in the initial ending after saving timmy. I really liked it, since I was heartbreaking when your character looks down to their own axe before going to check on his only family and see him become a monster. Now it's more of a love conquers all stereotypical ending, the original ending had a tragic yet horrifying realization that you've endangered all those around you and released this monster that was once your own flesh and blood son

The way the story is slowly revealed to you and how you have to put the pieces together by yourself made this one of the coolest stories ive ever experienced, Half Life 2 is still MY first.
Sahara somewhat reminds me of the Umbrella Corporation. Also what a good game, it combines good crafting with mystery, horror and decent exploring. I in no way expected alligators/crocodiles, I was just walking along the beach of the lake and heard a loud snap noise, I turned around to see this big monster charging after me. Praise upgraded arrows, saved my life. 😂 Thanks for explaining everything more in detail, had no idea this game was so deep!

Great video, a lot of good things with this theory but I still have some questions... Who did create the first mutants? How did they know that they have to sacrifice a living child and why did they do it? What's the storyline with the lawyer? What are the cannibals? Are they coming from the artifact too?
Love the story of The Forest, at first glance it doesn't look like the game has a big story burried within it, but I was pretty surprised about how much details there are hidden everywhere, it didn't spoil anything at the start of the game, I liked it.

This timeline is incorrect due to the VHS tape recorders showing Megan as a sick patient at the facility and was eventually separated from her father after the infected test subjects escaped cuasing the facility to be lost to the creatures
They devs said they changed the lore upon full release. Jessica died to stab wounds not Megan. Megan died to an armsy trampling her, it's possible the lawyers were divorce lawyers, Timmy doesn't mutate on set etc. Minor changes yes but they all add up to tell a different story.
Also, the poster was wrong about cross killing meghan you can see her being killed in one of the cam vids and also after that Cross was fired for trying to bring meghan back he only then returns to the facility to find it completely abandoned and taken over by the cannibals/mutants he then retrieves her body from the morgue at the facility and sacrifices Timmy only to be murdered by his own daughter that he brought back.
I knew i was gonna have some sort of nightmare and as resort would have difficulty sleeping after remembering this game. However your soft voice somehow put me at ease and i fell asleep much faster than without it.
This game felt like the Malaysian airplane that disappeared, this game starts from an airplane that disappeared and is on the island and then that voicemail "they are not human SOS" this game feels like a "What if" this is what happen with that Malaysian airplane missing and the voicemail. Its creepy to think about and then even more creepier to think about the airplane and the voicemail and this game feeling like a "What if"
Played for a few years now. Only ever tried surviving in one spot of the map multiple times. Wasn’t until I started playing with friends that we really started getting things going, only today after the longest time did we beat the game. I finally get to watch all the spoilers and theories I want.
Just finished it with my friend loved every bit of it. My friend definitely burned me with a couple of molotovs lol 😂. Hated it at times but ultimately loved it

But even among those who remains, and who are usually prone to dig deeper to patch together all pieces of information, there seem to be a consensus that this game doesn't really make sense.. And now that you explained it yourself (don't know how I didn't see this video before), I understand why : the fact Dr Cross left the island to come back later, and project Jarius is just recreating mutants that already existed because of the artefact before, are 2 events that confuses people out. They usually think Sahara created the mutants themselves (and so, old pictures of them are "incoherent", in this version), and think Dr Cross is strangely passing for a cannibal while (still) leading project Jarius. A project which mysteriously disappeared after that. So, incoherences & mysteries, where there's none once you get the timeline in the order you give here.

I remember playing this while it was on early Alpha, back then it was just a Minecraft with better graphics and creepy tribesmen. Now I'm amazed by the compelling story and lore!
To everyone asking "Where's part 2???" The Devs making The Son of the Forest are probably still working on it. It's gonna have more realistic nature and better models. It would also have to require lots of time because of the coding. Please be patient!

I dont really get how the monsters where on the island before the company got there. i thought the company made those monsters by reviving dead children.
The cannibals used that artifact first but they all died and the company discovered it then used it again
