I didn't realize it when he first got here but now I do: Allvin is the best thing that has happened to the Canucks in a very long time. Maybe ever. Great management and great coaching, with great communication and great players, is translating directly into winning hockey. It's fun to see. GCG!

The energy around this team is so different but in a good way, i cant remember the last time the canucks started the season without their starting goalie and it hasnt just been pure panic/the season is already over. Its a nice feeling and once we get demmers back we'll be unstoppable

Agreed, I still worry about the way he makes trades (gives up too much most of the time) but the way Alvin handles signings is honestly the best thing he does. Hands out good contract almost every time. Finally not having nightmares about the gm is so nice

They never had a plan B like Silovs and Lankinen before either.

What a refreshing improvement from Benning. With Poolman off the books we have finally rid ourselves of Benning's incompetence.

Swedish Chef has really turned this franchise around. Going from the worst GM in NHL to arguably the best is hard on the fanbase, but hopefully this year will make the suffering worth while.

At least we don't look at the moves Allvin and Rutherford make and shake our heads. We've been watching the moves over the last two seasons and thinking, wow, that's a great trade/pickup/signing-on-the-cheap. It's almost like they have a positioning chart for every player in the league, and they just find the player that fits their budget, that they think they can make a trade for.

just such a stark contrast to benning regime. how often have we ever said benning made a "shrewd" or forward thinking move? we are still cleaning up his messes..

@@gameburn178 Why trade anyone? The Canucks have a full roster while still being under the salary cap for the first time in years, with plenty of skilled call ups on the farm team in case they get into injury problems. You need depth to go far in the playoffs and that's what Allvin is gearing the team for, not draft picks for a future run. You need to keep this squad together, not break it up now.

  • @Bp79-or4kp

When you take a step back and compare everything team to team, there isn't 1 teams roster or overall situation I'd prefer over the nucks.
Tons of depth, tons of stars and everything in between.
3 solid goalies, a forward group where every player 1-14 could score 15-20 and put up 30+ points.
Add in Lekkerimakki, Willander, D-Petey, to one of the youngest cores, is something not a lot of good teams have.

And all this has been done in... how many years? Seems so fast. I remember people defending Benning up to the end of his regime... lol. I remember thinking... Rutherford? Guy is in his 70s, what are they doing? Well, turns out ownership in Vancouver was never the problem. We just needed better management.

@@gameburn178 I mean Aqualinis have always given the GMs the go-ahead to spend to the cap every year. They do want the cup, maybe as bad as the rest of us. They just should have moved off of Benning sooner. The guy "helped" make a good team in Boston, that got "lucky" in a lot of ways on their cup run, which Benning benefited from. Had the Canucks beat Boston in 2011, Benning would never have been in the picture. Rutherford also has the balls to look Aquillini directly in the eyes and say "FUCK YOU! My way or the highway." He's basically acted like a shield between Aquaman and Allvin, and it's worked great. Aquallini is now sitting back and realizing that he's got a management he can trust.

Prediction -- and not a brilliant one -- Demko is gone this summer. Silovs looks like the real deal to me: more than competent, calm, easy-going, liked by his team mates, and, oh yes, doesn't get injured much. If last year's playoffs weren't proof enough of this coming change, just wait for this year. Silovs is starting a lot of games...
