I arrived in Cairo airport from Luxor on 10th Oct 2023 and literally watched this video at the airport before getting on the shuttle bus. I took a bus to El Demerdash then changed to a metro to get to my hostel in Downtown Cairo. Paid EGP 13 in total compared to what would've been over EGP 200 by Uber. Thanks a lot!

Nice video. Easy to understand. I see that now they have Uber app and a ride can be taken for around 100 EGP, which is probably the fastest, most convenient way for a non-solo traveller. I'll be heading to Cairo next week for a first time visit. Looking forward to it.
Thanks Kevin! Usually I pay between EGP 150-175 for an Uber from CAI to the city center. However, be wary, because it can be very difficult to figure out where your Uber driver is in the mess of the airport pickup area, most Uber drivers do not speak English, and often they will try shenanigans like cancelling the ride and asking you to pay cash. Listen to this testimonial from someone who commented on my blog recently: "I would like to share an experience that an Uber driver at Cairo airport. It was happen on Mar 28. We flew from Luxor back to Cairo. The flight was late. We arrived Cairo airport around 2am in early morning. When we walked out the airport, there were few taxi drivers in outside and ask me if we need a ride. I asked one of them how much to downtown. He told me 25 euros. It’s far more than what I expected. I told him I will call an Uber. I open Uber app and order an Uber. It is not that difficult to call a Uber from airport. The app will show you pick up point and what you need to do is walking to pickup point to meet the driver. Few minutes later, the Uber came. The driver’s English was not very good. He asked me if I can pay cash. I realized that I ordered by credit card. I told him I can pay cash but I don’t know how to change the payment to cash. I just started using Uber in Cairo. I was not very familiar with the app. He took my phone and did something and then help with our luggage and let us get in the car. He invited me to sit in front seat. I was thinking the reason he asked me to sit in front seat was because small rear seat space, but later I figured he was going to haggle with me the price. After few minutes driving, he asked me “dollar” which his broken English. I realize he was ask if I can pay US dollars, and he was starting trying to scam me. I told him I don’t have US dollars. He spoke to me, I was not really he was talking English or Arabic. I thought he maybe asking me for euros or other currency. I had US dollars in my bag, I just don’t want to show him in this situation. I told him I only have Egyptian pounds. He saw I cannot pay him US dollars, then he typed 500 in him phone and show me. The quote from Uber app was only around 150LE. I opened the app and what to show him. I just realized he did not change cash payment. He canceled the Uber in my phone. I told him 500 is way more than the Uber quote, tell me the reason why you will charge me 500? He asked me how much I can pay. I told him I would not pay anything more than 200. He typed 400 on his phone and show me. I said no. At this point, I was not sure what he could do to us if we refuse to pay higher rate. I asked my wife to google emergency number, just in case we need help. He was trying to haggle with me all way to the hotel, I refused anything higher than 200. After arriving the hotel. We get off the car and take out our luggage. I gave him 200 bill, he was trying to ask me more. I told him Uber quote is 150, I gave you 50 as tips is more than enough. I will not give you anything more. He did not insist and drive away. Most of the Uber drivers are good in Cairo except some individuals. I think if you got similar situation, just stand on your ground, he cannot do anything to you."
This was really useful. More difficult we found is going from Ramsis station to the airport. We ended up getting an 11 from across the road from the station by the mosque. Loads of buses so getting the right one you have to know your numbers! Told that this does not go all the way, so got off near the airport then fellow passenger advised which bus goes to the airport. Get off by the bus terminal, NOT in it and wait at the same place for the shuttle bus to get to your terminal. A bit of an adventure, not to be tried if time is tight (the bus hit a care which delayted us a bit). Maybe the metro extension will open soon....

Hi Natasja, I have heard that the latest the buses run is 10pm, although I have never been able to confirm this. When arriving later in the evening, I always recommend using a taxi (pay about 250 Egyptian Pounds) or an Uber, or setting up your own private transfer.

This is a very useful and informative video... thank you very much! How do you get to change your money to Egyptian currency to pay for the bus trip? Appreciate your advice...
I exchange a little bit of money at the visa counter when I buy my entry visa. The visa counter is also a currency exchange office, so you get two things done at once! You can find a TH-cam video I made where I go over the visa in Egypt and how to buy it.

@@EgyptAdventuresTravel Its great that u were able to pick up Arabic that easily by the way. Props to you. My neighbour is Canadian and has been living here for years yet she can't really speak or read Arabic that well
For currency exchange I either recommend downtown Cairo or Tahrir Street in Dokki, or pulling money out of an ATM using your overseas bank card. Rates are the same, so no need to worry about shopping around for a specific rate.
There is no space for luggage, besides in the seat next to you. I would not recommend taking the bus if you have more than one bag or an extremely large bag.
Can you please suggest any offline mobile map that would help to navigate Cairo aside from google maps that allows you to download only a specific area. Thank you!

I had to rewind 10 seconds back at 2:34 when I heard you say the A in "Abd Elmoniem Riad" correctly 😂😂
Hahaha, yep! I speak Arabic--not 100% perfectly, but well enough to get around :)
@@EgyptAdventuresTravel Its great that u were able to pick up Arabic that easily by the way. Props to you. My neighbour is Canadian and has been living here for years yet she can't really speak or read Arabic that well
@@mazenmassem Arabic was the main reason I moved to Egypt, so I really focused on it 👍🏼. I love Arabic!
Dear, which area you recommend for currency exchange?
Is any currecy rate difference between bank & local market rate ?
For currency exchange I either recommend downtown Cairo or Tahrir Street in Dokki, or pulling money out of an ATM using your overseas bank card. Rates are the same, so no need to worry about shopping around for a specific rate.
Tell me friend, is the free shuttle stop at which terminal? Terminal 3 or 2, where did you get on the video?
Hi there, thanks for your question! It stops at all the terminals-it just does a loop around the whole airport.
Amazing video 👍Where are you from plz?
I am from the United States.
Is there a space under the bus for suitcases or something like that or is it not recommended if you have a lot of luggage?
There is no space for luggage, besides in the seat next to you. I would not recommend taking the bus if you have more than one bag or an extremely large bag.
How did you pay for your ticket on the bus. Did you have Egyptian pound? Can we pay with credit card?
You cannot pay with credit card, just Egyptian Pounds, cash. Hope that helps!
Could you please tell me till when does it work the bus service
I’ve heard until 12am midnight but I’m not 100% sure. Does anyone else know?
@@EgyptAdventuresTravel much appreciated
@@abdullahmonir1030 my pleasure-sorry I don’t have a more definite answer!
❤😮
❤️❤️
How long takes the bus from airport to
down town ? one hour or 2 hours
It’s between 1.5-2 hours depending on traffic.
@@EgyptAdventuresTravel thanks
Can you please suggest any offline mobile map that would help to navigate Cairo aside from google maps that allows you to download only a specific area. Thank you!
Sorry, I just use Google maps! Has anyone else had experience using something else and can respond to this comment?
Ok! Thank you
What about from downtown to the airport? Do people also take the bus from Abdel Moneim Riad?
Yes, you can get a bus from Abdel Moneim Riad to the airport! I plan on making a video at some point to show how 👍🏼
@@EgyptAdventuresTravel If we would like to try taking the bus from Tahrir to CAI (and vice versa), can you advice when is the earliest and last buses?
@@dahlia1704 I’m not sure exactly, but if I had to guess, I would say 6am until 10pm.
Hello, is downtown close to Giza? Thx
Depends on where you want to go in Giza. Are you asking how far the Pyramids are from downtown?
@@EgyptAdventuresTravel yes, the pyramid. But I just checked Google map, they are quite close. The museum and Giza
@@hengyan6232 the pyramids are about a 30-60 minute taxi ride from downtown Cairo depending on traffic. When are you planning your trip for?
@@EgyptAdventuresTravel thank you very much for all your information. I am debating whether I should go and what I am interested in doing there at the moment... And I just found out from your article that I would need a covid test with me as well. So I will also need to find out where I can do this test before I go... A little trouble
Can I get a visa on arrival when flying in from Malaysia? I am holding a Swiss passport. Need a pcr test, right?
Yes, you can get a visa, and yes, you need a PCR test. Here’s a blog post we wrote with everything you need to know. Even though it’s focused on the US, the same stuff applies to you coming from Malaysia with a Swiss passport:

@@EgyptAdventuresTravel thanks for this. That doesn't sound too bad. Except for the insurance thing, that kills it I am afraid.
@@yvesthesleeve if it helps, I had a client travel to Egypt in early November and he opted not to buy additional insurance. They never questioned him about it. I opted to buy the insurance and they never asked me about it either. It seems like you may not need the insurance, just proceed at your own risk I suppose. Either way it only cost me about USD $75, not bad. I doubt if you didn’t have additional insurance that they would bar your entry to the country.
@@EgyptAdventuresTravel Ah okay, I see. Wonder if I should dare. I heard a lot that they don't check. But I still have to fill in some kind of a insurance number... Well, I will think about it. I really would like to go back to Egypt. Not many other options too.
@@yvesthesleeve whatever you decide to do, I would love to hear how it goes for you! Feel free to comment back on here or shoot us an email or FB message with your story. Best of luck!
Can you take your luggage onto the public bus?
Great question! Yes, but I wouldn’t recommend taking more than one suitcase and one backpack.
is it possible to get a bus from that terminal to go back to the airport?
Yes, you can take this bus from Abd El Moneim Riad bus station in downtown to go to Cairo International Airport.
@@EgyptAdventuresTravel thanx
Im planning on going to egypt in march or april i need to email you with questions.
Yes, please send me an email and let’s set up a consultation! My email is on my website, in every video description, and also on my “about” page for this TH-cam channel.
@@EgyptAdventuresTravel will do thanks brother !
How we can take bus Ticket?
You pay the fare to either the driver or the person on board collecting money and they give you the ticket. It’s super easy. Cash only 👍🏼
Bus 24h ?
Hi Eduardo! It is not 24 hours, but I am not sure what time exactly it stops running. Sorry I can’t help more! I know it is running as early as 6am though.
@@EgyptAdventuresTravel Thanks, I've been before, but this time my flight arrives at 1am and I'm worried about transportation, because taxis are abusive hahaha
@@eduardopalma3553 Yes, in that case I would just bargain with a taxi and take a taxi, or you can always use Uber! Here is my video with advice on taking Uber: th-cam.com/video/0RvgAeyK8NQ/w-d-xo.html
We are lucky you are here to tell us how to take a bus! 🤣🤣🤣We are so stupid...
Hey, I wish I had these videos when I first went to Egypt in 2012--I find the transportation system there difficult at first! Do you regularly take buses in Cairo?
