I'm not sure what amazes me more: how easily you explained the chordsystem or how great your voice fits with that song. I would really love to hear more worship music from you!

Oh also, if anyone is wondering, if you ever see something like "G/B", that means it is a G chord with a B note in the bass (i.e. left hand)

Hmmm... interesting. I always thought it denoted an inversion... So the normal G chord is G-B-D and I would play G/B as B-D-G, which is the 1st inversion.

I found your channel because my husband's family wants to have a Christmas hymn sing and I'm the only one with a piano. I've played guitar in church since youth group days, so the chords look familiar on paper. Thank you so much for breaking it down to basic fundamentals that are transferrable to all keys and easing the pressure! God bless you, sister! ❤

Self taught guitarist, I reverse engineered the counting thing on piano a few years ago. Thank-you for clearing up some of the ambiguity! My wife has a few grades in the flute - we’ve been trying to get a little more (practical) music theory on piano during COVID lockdown for use at church. Loving these videos - keep them coming, and look forward to meeting you on the other side!

Best ever! This makes piano easier than guitar. My biggest problem with guitar is that I want to be my own bass player. It's not that I haven't known this for decades, it's rather the way you tell it that caused the wheels to ratchet up in my mind. I have been reading from chord charts and using melodic memory to create new arrangements and write songs for decades. Your explanation put learning and improvising on piano EXACTLY how I understand music on guitar. It has been a stumbling block for me for my entire musical life. It's like taking a car you have loved for years and then rebuilding it with the perfect balance of go, turn, stop and style. It's still me, but it's MORE me. Thank you, Lisa.

I recollect somewhere while I was told simply to think 4:3 for major Chords and reverse it to 3:4 for minor chords. It was a real thing not to forget.

    • @RichardChappell1
      @RichardChappell1 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

I only bother with the 4:3, and for minors, just move the 3 down a half step. If you look at everything from how they are a major chord modified, it's really pretty easy to master quickly.

@Lisa, you have a lovely natural singing voice, yet when you play something where you have a natural tendency to sing, you almost shy away and lower your voice. I know of people that are totally the opposite, try to sing and they either do not have a note in their head or ruin their singing by bellowing at the top of their vocal range spoiling their singing.
You sing as gracefully as you play and that is a real treasure, to be able to sing and play at the same time is very challenging, yet very rewarding for a natural and gifted artist. :)

    🇳🇬
Ma'am, I'm a beginner (learning for 10 months now), so as i was watching this and i began to follow, i went straight to my piano, playing along, it sounds really good and completely different from the way i v'e been playing my own "BLESS THE LORD OH MY SOUL" and i love it, thank you ma, i just learnt something new.
But my question (coming as a beginner) :
1: On which key did you play ma? (sounds like Key G, i v'e been looking for the key for a while but i just ended up playing what you played and it's sounds amazing and so melodious)
It sounds so different from how i v'e been playing and learning on Key C with the following chords: Fmaj, Cmaj, Gmaj, Fmaj, Cmaj, Amin, Gmaj.
2: As a Novice, i can only use major chords, so the question is how do i apply these minor and sus chord you just played if really you didn't play on key C?
    Thanks for the Opportunity ma.

Thank you Lisa for explaining the formula for Major / Minor chords 🙂. Whenever I saw a chord other than the basic C, G, F, D.... I started to stress because I have to go to your E-Book with all the chords to see how to play that specific chord. Now I know. Ok, I know there are Diminished chords and others, but I'm not concentrating too much on those now. I'm only playing for almost 3 months now, and I still have loads to learn or master from all the info that I have at the moment 😊

Really great explanation there! One thing to add: I saw an E minor in there. In order to play ANY minor chord, you just move your middle finger down a half step. So instead of counting up 4 half steps you count up 3. So the half steps end up being 3 then 4 instead of 4 then 3.

It was really useful. I always encountered sus without really knowing what it was so I had to look the chords up every time. But now I will practice them to remember them. Thank you❤

Very helpful video, thanks! I've just started playing at church despite not having lessons in over 15 years. I will look through your other videos to see if I can get any tips for arpeggio patterns etc.
