Fabio Bruno try and imagine youre trying to tuck your backfoot's ankle in your crotch. like, suck your backfoot up so your leg looks like its curling up into your crotch, if done correctly you should have a fairly decent backfoot catch. once you get the flick timing down and in-sync with your pop and catch, youll have them better than ever.
He means to let your front foot slide up enough to carry the board up high, then flick. As you see if you pay attention Lizard King has his foot set up in between the front bolts and the middle, while most people have their kickflip position right behind the front bolts. Having your front foot slightly more to the middle of the board allows him to carry his kickflip up before flicking. Depending where you have your foot is how fast you slide your foot up though. People put their foot right by the front bolts but still have a high kickflip. Thats because they slide their foot up slower than if it was toward the middle of the board. Also you dont want your foot down too low. Or else you'll just be completely uncomfortable and look dumb and like you dont know what your doing. (God i hate doing long comments, it makes me look like a smartass)
That flick delay is the essence to most flip tricks IMO. Really helps, like Lizard King said, to do your tricks with tons of pop and it literally looks so much better when you get used to it. That's how I do my heelflips (Also a heelflip kid. I do them all day long, but I kickflip once in a blue moon).
bro I'm the same way. I tried doing this method to kickflip and even though I can't get it even close to the consistency of my heelpflips, I've definitely gotten more kickflips the Lizard King way.
Daniel Wondal That's what's up, bro! My kickflips rotate very slowly, so I don't get enough pop, I end up stomping it primo. When I initiate enough pop, it looks like I'm in the air forever, mad hangtime, and end up catching them close to the ground haha. I really need to work on that, I dont think i'd be able to do kicks anywhere but flatground until I get them better. My heels, I catch in the way up...its such a good feeling.
you mean where the board flips and you catch it while you're still coming up and then just stomp the rest of the way down? almost orgasmic. Depending on how my foot are set up right before i heelflip, i just know wholeheartedly that its going to be a great heelflip
jimster805 Yessir! That feeling is crazy good. Especially, as well, because you simply KNOW you got the trick and you can focus on the next one or continuing to ride. Also, the thud sound when the board hits your foot before you stomp it down. Love that shit. I caught maybe two kickflips like that just recently, trying to really take the time to re-learn them and get massive pop without kicking the board away (my foot catches too much grip).
Along with the delayed flick I have found that it is allot easier to land and launch kick flips if you step laterally backwards while popping into the trick. Almost as if you were to step up stairs backwards off your skateboard. and if you want Neen Williams style heel flips step laterally forward when popping. (Imagining you are stepping forward off your board up imaginary stairs.) if you look closely when Lizard launches into his kick-flip his whole center of gravity shoulders and all shift forward in a perpendicular motion. If this sounds confusing to understand please comment on this post or thumbs up, ill post a video showing how Neen Williams, and Lizard king pull this off with ease. I am not trying to do this for attention I just really think there is a fool proof method to skateboarding basics. ( im not good at physics but i can summarize)
+dreamgetter13 yea dude idk why No one else mentions it. (for people reading this thread ) Even while popping an Ollie the board should shift slightly backwards. (it should look like you're doing an Ollie on a snowboard
+Andre martinez I live in Ohio and the weather sucks. I'll explain kick flips and heel flips as well. (Definitely keep your shoulders parallel with your board while practicing you're Ollie. I'll post a video link to this page when the video is made ) (DM me on instagram : MXNX_676
If you put pressure on the ball of your back or front foot almost like standing on your toes and then flick, it will help flick faster and be popped higher. But postponing the flick helps a lot as well!
Kickflips took me a long time maybe a year, because i was flicking like a heelflip, but now, i land kickflips everytime, and thanks to this video, i can kickflip MAD high
like 9 years ago i was the biggest lizard king fan i had his signature shoes which came in neon green and the deathwish signature board from him with a nean green noose. This video still rocks.
Try putting your front foot slightly further down the board when you ollie, It'll allow you to sweep up more and get higher ollies... As for kicks, I've been skating nearly 2 years and still cant do them so don't stress
Damn. There's definitely something different from birth with the guys who turn out to be pros. Learned to Ollie on his first day and kick after a couple months! I landed my first kickflip over a year and a half ago and still I will lose them for weeks at a time.
he does the CLEANEST kickflips that ive ever seen so far every time i put my foot close to the bolts i cant do my kickflip and i land them every now and then any tips ?
Yeah it's weird how not a lot of pros use colored wheels. Lizard pretty much always has colored wheels, Ellington, Theotis Beasley, Chris Haslam and TK use colored wheels a lot too.
helped alot and no its not saying break all of the ligaments in ur ankle, lmfao. its saying one day ur gonna need to face ur fears and get great pop, flick good, and land both feet on the damn board. main reason people cant do kickflips/ only land one foot is because they are scared to eat shit. be a skater.
@sasukefan1020 Best advice: try them as much as possible with slightly different foot positions. You'll eventually get the feel of them with one position that works better than the rest. Takes time to learn, but once you get it close you'll know you've got it.
When I️ learn tricks, I think of the trick as like something that I️m chasing down. Like first starting the day Im not even close then I figure something out. Then practice more. And more and more... And after a couple hours I️m close.. very close.. maybe Iv landed with one foot on or even both heels on but both toes off of maybe a slip out. At this point my brain is saying ok you got it. It has nowhere to run ! You have it cornered !! And today I had kickflip trapped with nowhere to run. But then somehow, it got away. I left the park not having landed it. Lol sometimes it just goes that way. Tomorrow I️ think I️ can get it ! Been skating for almost two months now. I️m hooked. it is a lot of fun. Great physical activity and challenges you mentally by overcoming fears and going for it. So rewarding when you land a trick you worked hard on.
Ive been skating for 10 months. The kickflip used to be my favourite trick when I started and I wanted to learn it so bad.So I leant how to ollie and I started to try kickflip. But this fuckin trick just slowed me down.I was skating for 6-7 months and I knew only the ollie and the fakie ollie and I was trying to get kickflips. Then I realized that this trick slowed me down. And those 3 months I learnt about 25-30 tricks and hard ones like fakie front bigspins and back 3s aerial.I even leant hardflip
"It's insane how high he pops it". Says the dude with the highest kickflips ever hahaha.
best kick flip advice ever. "let it hang then flick."
mrwhiteout1 How you do that? I tried but can't get my back foot on
Fabio Bruno try and imagine youre trying to tuck your backfoot's ankle in your crotch. like, suck your backfoot up so your leg looks like its curling up into your crotch, if done correctly you should have a fairly decent backfoot catch. once you get the flick timing down and in-sync with your pop and catch, youll have them better than ever.
Thank you, I've got already the back foot catch but not that high

For real.

jimster805 I love that early catch, something about it man.
jimster805 Yessir! That feeling is crazy good. Especially, as well, because you simply KNOW you got the trick and you can focus on the next one or continuing to ride. To this day his kick flip is still the gold standard for me
"or you could flip it all slow like 'woaaaahhh'" haha gotta love stoney Lizard King!
Makes me want to go do kickflips.
^
It's the slo-mo guy! :D
"Tied for second and no 3rd place" hahahahaha what a guy

Can you explain it better? I didn't understand that thing about stepping forward and backwards. Thanks
+dreamgetter13 yea dude idk why No one else mentions it. (for people reading this thread ) Even while popping an Ollie the board should shift slightly backwards. (it should look like you're doing an Ollie on a snowboard
+M.T.M 2k15 PLEASE DO THE VIDEO EXPLAINING BETTER PLEASE
+M.T.M 2k15 do the video whenever you have time man. Im interested in what your saying.
+Andre martinez I live in Ohio and the weather sucks. I'll explain kick flips and heel flips as well. (Definitely keep your shoulders parallel with your board while practicing you're Ollie. I'll post a video link to this page when the video is made ) (DM me on instagram : MXNX_676
he actually esxplained it really better than the millions of other so-professional-looking how-to on the tube
Straight up I love lizards kickflips. They're so unique they're not your typical kickflip.
I know right
Best kickflip tutorial ever delaying the flick helps with any trick.
If you put pressure on the ball of your back or front foot almost like standing on your toes and then flick, it will help flick faster and be popped higher. But postponing the flick helps a lot as well!
It's all about you being on ease and comfortable on your board, no secret. You have to gain confidence, tricks will follow; don't try too hard
i watched this like a year ago...tried it and now everyone tells me i have the best kickflips out of any of my friends...thx lizard!
Kickflips took me a long time maybe a year, because i was flicking like a heelflip, but now, i land kickflips everytime, and thanks to this video, i can kickflip MAD high

Damn. There's definitely something different from birth with the guys who turn out to be pros. Learned to Ollie on his first day and kick after a couple months! I landed my first kickflip over a year and a half ago and still I will lose them for weeks at a time.

helped alot and no its not saying break all of the ligaments in ur ankle, lmfao. its saying one day ur gonna need to face ur fears and get great pop, flick good, and land both feet on the damn board. main reason people cant do kickflips/ only land one foot is because they are scared to eat shit. be a skater.
@sasukefan1020 Best advice: try them as much as possible with slightly different foot positions. You'll eventually get the feel of them with one position that works better than the rest. Takes time to learn, but once you get it close you'll know you've got it.
There should be more trick tips where it shows other skaters doing the trick.
Lizard king has the sickest kickflip to me
his stle freaks me out sometimes. his game of skate heath kirchart berrics 2 his tricks are nuts
this isn't really him teaching you how to kickflip, its more of his kickflip experiences.

I wonder if i break my ankle i could kickflip like this guy!
wow,insane flips!
When I️ learn tricks, I think of the trick as like something that I️m chasing down. Like first starting the day Im not even close then I figure something out. Then practice more. And more and more...
