Everyone learns at different paces. I remember it taking me months to do a kick flip. Then some little kid joined our crew who somehow became a pro level skater in like a year. Taking several month long breaks is exactly why you still can't do it. You just gotta keep at it every day. Practice makes perfect. I remember being a teenager practicing kick flips and them not coming easy to me. One day I got so frustrated I cried. But instead of giving up, I told myself I'm not going home tonight until I land 1. I was there past dark trying until I finally landed one. The next day they came easier to me.
Hey man that’s better than me. I’m 29 and have been off and on skating since I was 5 and I still can’t kickflip very well. It’s hard for me to commit to sticking it with my back foot even though I get the pop and rotation perfect. I know I know, I suck 😂
Great to see a rail hack for learning. I don't see that mentioned often. When I first got my Kickflip I did that but slightly different way to yours lol. I also did it 2handed to keep me up, then went to 1 handed, then in the middle of it I removed both hands then eventually did it without the rail/fence! The biggest tip there for me was 2hands, 1 hand, stop holding mid air then no hands at all! I got it really fast by doing those 4 mini steps, the fear just goes away when u do it like this! 😁
Great tutorial bro. I have an easy mod to your "pin hack." Attach a string to it and connect to your truck. Now you don't have to go chasing for it every time!

it took me one year to learn the kickflip, awesome teaching. I was a hopeless case so if anybody feels the same I would also recommend try spread your feet more apart so that means the front foot the closest to the front bolts and more heel hanging completely off the edge out, And, keep your shoulders parallel to the board (do not open up as you kick), And, finaly key secret ingredient: Keep watching your backfoot as you jump. When explaining to people what works for me, it gets complicated. But let's use the terms fold and curl. When I fold my foot, it's like turning my whole foot inwards towards the other foot. If I were to stand on it, it would be the solid outter edge of my foot or even the side of my foot. The curl is more like turning my toe inwards towards the other foot. The typical ollie is a lot more folding, and for me the kickflip is a lot more curling of the foot. That controls your position before the flick. Since you position your front foot pointing a bit more towards the nose, then once you slide up to the nose let the concave fold over your shoe and pull it back heelside to get the foot out of the way. You don't have to flick straight past the nose if it creates too much friction on the shoe. You can just curl and pull the foot out by the concave once it gets close to the nose. There's like a little 'pocket' there. I can even kickflip and ollie without rubbing the top of my shoe by limiting how much folding I use. All kickflips use some folding, and all ollies use some curling, too. Also if you notice how people get taught to do a boned ollie, they usually get told to fold the back foot. Or in some cases, you can fold the back foot to catch a high 360 shove it early. While I didn't create those two terms, I define them here in my own way as needed to convey those features of what I try to do when I skate, personally. Someone else might interpret curl and fold differently, fold usually means you actually, and accidentally, fully tweaking your ankle in some cases. But I needed more than one term to distinguish the features of the two movements, hope it helps.
Thanks for the effort, but I don't get the difference still. Your definitions of 'fold' and 'curl' are worded the same, except one says "foot", while thr other says "toe". 😐 Could you rephrase the definitions? Do the movements happen in the same plane?

After youve gotten down youre kickflips pretty consistently amd are really comfortable doing them but there not necesarily high or look very good , a good tip i kinda discovered myself is when you slide and kick out for the flip u dont want to do it super fast and instantly. Slightly delay the flip and let youre board get some height, almost to the the top and then smoothly flip out.i know it sounds difficult but once you do it it succesfully a couole times ull get the feeling down and youre kickflips will reach another level. Super important not to over exagerate the delay in the flip to much.its just an ever so slight delay in flip. Anyone really good knows what im talking about

I’ve been dancing on them poles for years now. I even set up some top ropes hanging from a high tree branch that I clipped my rock climbing harness into one time to try and learn kickflips and other “forward/in front” type tricks, like shuv it’s for instance or varials or tre flips- due to the poles sort of being in your way and impeding on your range of motion somewhat. Which is exactly why I actually never used the pole technique for those tricks- as they work MUCH better for all those “behind you” type tricks. Heel flips mostly. With one pole you can be parallel with it, hold on with both hands - and since with heel flips the board tends to go more behind you than Infront of you like with kickflips- the pole doesn’t get in the way. So works much better- nearly perfectly even for heel flips/front shruvs/varial heels etc…

Great explaining, check Great practice tipps, check Great board setup, check Great style, check Your tutorial was nice to watch and easy to understand. I learnd kickflips this year and i‘ve seen a lot of tutorials about it. But i have never seen one on how to commit. It‘s key for sure. I‘ll try the marker on the floor. And we have a fence at our lokal skatepark that‘s made out of pipes. We often train flip tricks leaning on the fence. One more thing i can recommend is training on the trampolin. No trucks of course. It helped a lot learning my treshove and my bigspin. And it helps to get a feeling for spinning per se. Maybe i can do a backflip with my board one day. Btw, hope you‘re still strong fighting the devils lettuce. I quit about 3 weeks before your video. Meanwhile i quit again. It‘s so hard. 😓
It’s interesting as I learnt kick flips in 1989 and they were not like they are nowadays LOL so I remember the changing time in the 90’s and I never got the roll and kick properly. I could but not gold. I’m 49 now so I’m going to try this when my sciatica heals. This is good for old dogs as well as young guns
Using a rail is how I learned to kickflip back in 89', it took me about 15 tries. I learned heel flips first, as it felt more natural and was a natural progression from a ollie judo.
If i had this 30 years ago when we didn't even have a slow mo video of a kickflip to learn from i would have learned to kickflip in one day, but not having that it still took 3 days to land my first one.😉. This is exceptional training tutorial.
You also need to pop, then flick. It feels like a very small ollie. Don't pull your front leg up too high. If you can ollie like 5" off the ground you can probably learn to kickflip.
i learned how to kickflip after a year or two into skating... i've been skating for 10 years.. one of my friends saw me tryna learn kickflips and told me "bro you're so good at doing ollies. do you think you can ollie north?" once i learned ollie north i came back trippin out like "AYEE I LANDED IT" and from there he told me "thats my secret to kickflips ha ha. do an ollie north in a kickflip foot position and put the two and two together" ever since then i have kickflipped ALOT of stuff.
it's kindof the same idea as the duct tape hack but i think the trick tip i was given encourages the right people.... those who are already have their ollies on point...... the people like me who truly had fun doing ollies will understand for the most part.
I've been skating for 25 years and heelfips have always been easier for me for some reason. I have been trying to pop higher kickflips for years and just recently started getting there. I regret so much not doing it every day, every chance I had.
Im so gonna try this when im back to kickflips, awesome tips! Also im thinking to buy those rubber mats and to try those in my room, i want to practice with complete deck, not only board. Good thing if its raining outside 🙃🙃
Yo serious question, are there actually "twin tail" boards? Like boards with a tail shape as the tail and nose? If so that shit would have been a game changer for me back in the day. For watever reason back when i skated i could only do proper flip tricks when skating the tail as the nose. When id do anything with nose in front it would always be rocketed trash. Especially kickflips. But when i skated the tail as the nose my flip tricks were soooo nice. Super floaty, caught with back foot and boned wenever i wanted. Very weird, never understood why it happened. But if i had a twin tail back then!!! I wouldnt have to constantly make sure im skating the right side😂
@@talhumphrey6089 it does make so much more sense doesnt it. Whats the point of having two different shaped sides. So you know which is the nose and which is the tail i assume. Well if both sides are shaped the same then it wouldnt matter lol.
Plus you know, the fact that there are just as many skate tutorial videos being made by goofy footed skaters… so I will ask you… do you just like… mirror what’s being shown by those goofy footed skaters in their skate tutorial videos or…?

So I have a good Ollie right, but the second I try a kickflip I either pop the board straight up. pop it behind me, or send the board flying in front of me all of them not flipping at all. Can someone tell me how to fix this

Nice! I've been taking every tip on kick flip this month , I finally got it to flip nicely I just need to land
This is exceptional training tutorial.
the Rail - handicap ramps make for great training rails to work on footwork..
You also need to pop, then flick. It feels like a very small ollie. Don't pull your front leg up too high. If you can ollie like 5" off the ground you can probably learn to kickflip.
Can’t wait to hear what you say about Braille’s sudden shut down
Yoooo I thought MGK was doing the tutorial for a sec 😂😂
been skating for 2 years and could not get a kick flip done and after I watch your video I tried it and got close then the next day I got it
Learning FS 180/BS 180 at the moment, but so hyped to do that !!
My shins have been destroyed learning kickflips. Been wearing shinguards on the down low lately as I'm getting back into it.
This man may be a genius
i learned how to kickflip after a year or two into skating... i've been skating for 10 years.. one of my friends saw me tryna learn kickflips and told me "bro you're so good at doing ollies. do you think you can ollie north?" once i learned ollie north i came back trippin out like "AYEE I LANDED IT" and from there he told me "thats my secret to kickflips ha ha. do an ollie north in a kickflip foot position and put the two and two together" ever since then i have kickflipped ALOT of stuff.
up stairs, down stairs into grinds. off loading docks and stuff above head high. nothin too crazy.
it's kindof the same idea as the duct tape hack but i think the trick tip i was given encourages the right people.... those who are already have their ollies on point...... the people like me who truly had fun doing ollies will understand for the most part.
Cant wait to give this a try
Very educational!
I LANDED IT TODAY BECAUSE OF THIS THANK YOU SO FUCKING MUCH
I've been skating for 25 years and heelfips have always been easier for me for some reason. I have been trying to pop higher kickflips for years and just recently started getting there. I regret so much not doing it every day, every chance I had.
Treflips next please!
Genius bro
even the intro is enough to figure how to kickflip thru visually alone
Bro has been drinking MGKs soy milk
Este video necesitaba ser editado. Gran trabajo
Egg decks homie or symmetrical boards
@@talhumphrey6089 word thanks man! Are they common, do alot of people skate them?
@@HighGroundArmwrestling I ride one, it kinda just makes sense to me lol
@@talhumphrey6089 it does make so much more sense doesnt it. Whats the point of having two different shaped sides. So you know which is the nose and which is the tail i assume. Well if both sides are shaped the same then it wouldnt matter lol.
Try the creature plank shape. Anti he just released the horseplay but is a 9" wide big boy board.
Okaye I rolled my ankle , out of hospital just now. Now I got my foot right and ready
What board are you using? Great video Webz!
Yo the pop thing to be in the center would work better for my Ollie’s (in a beginner)
does holding onto something (commitment trick #2) work for learning ollies too?
If only this was in The First Step. I could of been a contender.
Pro tip if your back foot doesn’t land on the board(chicken foot) then try fakie flip and you will realise it hurts less to put the foot on😂😂
After watching this I’m close in landing this
okay but how do you stop your flick from yeeting the board into outerspace?
Lean more forward.
just thought about this... do goofy footed skaters horizontally mirror skateboarding trick tutorials to follow along?
I mean, if you just go with front foot back foot instead of left or right the tip is the exact same... it's pretty easy to understand lol.
Plus you know, the fact that there are just as many skate tutorial videos being made by goofy footed skaters… so I will ask you… do you just like… mirror what’s being shown by those goofy footed skaters in their skate tutorial videos or…?
I keep landing with my feet very close together on the board, how can I land them bolts?
Awesome.
i got 10 ore more kickflips yesterday. but today it was hard for me to even land 1. like i'm back to square one. frustrating sometimes
happens, just keep going.
@@pman882 thx man
me and my buddy had the same problem with shuvs last night. some days it just wont happen and thats okay! no rush, skating is forever!!
@@Glizzy. thx man. need those words. keep on persisting and have fun
@@lalilalulu got shuvs back, lets see them kickflips!!
Thx so much!! :)
Love the vintage Grizzlies fit. Much love from BC
Do heelflips please
hi i have one problem, i can do good flick but i always land next to my board, im to scared to commit to landing and i don't know what to do, i mean in first step you were doing the flick and landing with one of your foot on the board, but i can't do this, i tried the tape trick but i didn't help me a lot
My foot always does a hard rub on the grip, what is wrong with me?it never sounds like a swish sound more of a bumpy deep hum
The one true and only advice you need to kickflip or do any other trick is this : Practice then like crazy. 100 tries per day
So I have a good Ollie right, but the second I try a kickflip I either pop the board straight up. pop it behind me, or send the board flying in front of me all of them not flipping at all. Can someone tell me how to fix this
ok,i will try
Come skate at skatopia in Ohio !
Shoutout Grizzlies!
couldn´t you just pratice in the grass or is it really having that metal bar...
hmmm...well, haven´t been skating for 30 years...tried the other day, too fat and my knees 😅
...but just for the fun of it, I´ll try to land one
I’m on my death bed and tried your way and just broke my hip.
RIP me.
Grizzlies lets gooo
Im just here as Leiston high alum....
The tape bit is low-key genius.
This is one special English chap !
the board's sticking to my front foot, its not even flipping :(
Kickflips are easy and I suck at skateboarding.
Gojo? That you?
IT DONT WORK I TRYED
Yo
New skater but lifelong hockey player. It can be quite hard to learn watching someone with the opposite stick hand...hockey or stance..
.skateboarding. ever thought of mirroring your videos and releasing a "goofy edit" of your tutorials?
Use VLC to play the video, you can mirror it there.
dont tell me things
I dont like british MGK

King James Version
16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
Not a hater... but those rocket flips look awful.
Came for the Vancouver throw back T-shirt, the learned how to kickflip!
