Log Woodshed Build Part 1: Foundation & Posts

  • In this video, I begin building a round wood log woodshed at my cabin in the woods! This is part 1 of a series of videos in which I will share the entire process of the build. To begin, I found some roadside logs for the posts of the woodshed. Next, I used my laser level to build a concrete block foundation for each of the 6 posts. Using braces, I stood up and leveled each post. In part 2, I will begin framing the roof.
    Thanks for watching!

To the folks who have issues with the way you treat your truck. It's a working truck. It's not going to stay shiny and new looking. The only trucks like that are trucks that people buy and use as regular cars. A working truck is going to get dinged up. That's just how it is.
As to getting wood from the side of the road, didn't someone in a forestry truck drive by and see you doing it one time? If so, they obviously aren't too worried about it or they would've stopped and told you to not do it.

    Awesome video.
    Yes, your back!
I never wanted to jump through the screen so much and give you a hand. That's hard work.
You have enough experience cutting firewood that we should know by now you are not collecting rotten wood to build with. Looks to me to be perfectly seasoned for what you are doing. Not too green, not rotten.
Speaking of wood. I find it absolutely fantastic that you are using material that is available to you. Douglas Fir, are you kidding me? I would be picking up all I could get my hands on, firewood, pole sheds, furniture, I would be using it for everything. And, if it just sits there it will just go to waste and in my opinion be contributing to potential fire hazard.
I have to say that you may be limited on tools but one tool, and probably the most precious is your critical thinking skills and resourcefulness. Way too many people do not have that. Speaking of tools, I would look at your truck as a tool.
Your eclectic taste in music is fine, I would probably love the silence of your woods myself but that's me.

Great video.. What would have been hilarious is if you would have had part of the song "Breaking the Law" by Judist Priest... during this part: 23:51 - 24:00 ... Again I'm sure you weren't breaking the law as it would be a funny immbedded joke in your video. Stop being a perfectionist to an extent. 26:00 . That's why there are tolerances on blueprints. As well is why a bridge (for example) is designed to have many more times weight allowment capacity than it will theoretically ever experiance. This is an exterior wood shed that will settle over time. Great vids Diego. You are an amazingly skilled on hands learner for sure. Take care to you, Julia, Al and friends.

You can test poles/logs with a 3 lb hammer striking it around the circumference every few feet if the hammer rebounds sharply and makes a clear sound it is good. Decay areas will make a dull thud and the hammer will not rebound as much. There is actually an OSHA document on how to test utility poles that gives more detail but this is the gist of it.

Diago.. you need to find a Used 4WD Single Cabin.. toyota landcruiser or a Nissan (4wd) with a lond bed.. that can open all 3 sides.. if the loads are bigger. if you don't have the budget or don't need it.. add some Rancho RS5000X Gas Shocks Rear Pair for 2004-2015 Nissan Titan
A friend of mine in upper Alaska.. built a wood shed both sides open... with changable. wood stacks.. placed on wooden dolly's with wheels.. so as the usable copped logs pieces are placed on the front.. the greener wood is placed in the back.. as the front stack is used.. and empties.. he pulls the stack behind it upfront.. and then 3rd row to the 2nd and 4th to the 3rd.. and place the empty dolly's in the back.. and fills it up.

A few complaints, why use buckets for gravel when you could've put it in your trucks bed, 2 why not dig holes for the posts and pack them holes with gravel or cement, and instead of using boards for the floor go down to your home depot and they should have some free wood pallets and they will dry the wood alot better

You can build with that timber just coat er up with some oil and go heavy on the bottoms . You can also use sodium borate. Spray it on before ya oil it and get rid of the bark. My only advice and it just advice get ya a 362 stihl or a 462 and yer firewood production will go up 10 fold! Go see Sam at Madsens ! Keep on charging up the hill! 🙏🏻💪🏻👍🏻🫵
