    Here is part 20 in my series on Creating A Great Tone with the Line 6 Helix. I have had a number of requests over the past while to do a video talking about how to use the harmonizers in the Helix to create harmony lines for our lead playing. Here I examine a few of the included harmonizers we have at our disposal and how we can get these dialed in the way we need them. Thanks so much for tuning in and I hope you enjoy the video. Please subscribe to my channel if you are so inlcined...

    Jason. THANK YOU SO MUCH!!! I’ve been a player for 42 years. Always been a tube amp purist. However I play at church where I need to access a very wide variety of tones. So I watched and rewatched a lot of your dialing in vids prior to buying my helix. So glad I did. Extremely helpful.

    Nice stuff! For those who want to dive into Alan Holdsworth territory... +2 simple pitch with crunch gets you "Metal Fatigue". -5 simple pitch with a clean chorus gets you "Devil take the Hindmost"

    Hi Jason,
    I'm absolutely loving your videos, especially this series on dialing in tones on the Helix, as well as your incredible lessons on the pentatonic scale - so thanks!!
    One thing I'd like to suggest for this (dialing in) series: most of us mere mortals have not yet developed our ear to the extent you have, and can have a difficult time hearing subtle tone differences/changes. One trick I use is to place a Looper at the beginning of the signal chain, play for a few bars, loop it, and then adjust tone on the looped playback. Perhaps a video on using a Looper for this and other uses would help a lot of people.
    Cheers, and thanks again for all your efforts!

    • @JasonSadites
      @JasonSadites  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank so much Chris and so glad you enjoy the videos :-) I have done the looper trick before but strangely enough for me I find it much more intuitive to just play live while I do my dialing in. The looper trick is a great way to work though! Thanks for the suggestion!

    Thanks for yet another super in depth informative video with Helix. I for one and I’m sure many others are not even close to being sound engineers. I’m a brand new Helix user and I’ll say the first few days I wanted to send it back. But after watching your videos,(day and night) I’ve decided that I just need to understand Helix. You’ve helped me do that. I’m still learning and watching your videos and doing research on how my Helix works and how to tune in my tone. It seems the possibilities are endless.
    Helix is an amazing piece of equipment. Thankyou for your videos in helping us understand our helix and explaining it in terms us less experienced players can understand. I appreciate you man👍

    Great video. I wish there was a website that listed all-time popular harmonized song solos and just screenshot us which harmonizer settings to use for particular tunes. Half the battle is figuring out what key the solos are if you don't know any theory, and if you get past that.....then figuring out the helix part......ugh. I just want to plug and play and have fun.

    Thanks for this one I'm a recent convert (About 2 weeks) with a helix lt. I like harmonisers - using boss and tc electronics quintessence just before converting to helix. So far I'm not finding the helix as good either before or after an overdrive block but maybe it's the makeup of the preset I've done- I'll work on it! I use it on bits of hotel California, the opening riff on Steve Harley's "Make Me Smile" plus a couple of others to fill out the lead. It would be. Interesting I think to see you demo it again on Hotel California, or even Steely Dan ( I can see you're fan) . Very helpful vids though as I absorb enough to make use of the Helix .

    So glad to have found this! My 14yo wants to do the harmonized solo on Detroit Rock City which is 2 harmonized parts - each of which is doubled an octave up for a total of 4 parts. I don't know how many modules you can use, maybe add a Simple Pitch for an octave up downstream from the Twin Harmony.

    The simple pitch it perfect for adding a bass octave for songs like "Master of the Spark" by ZZ Top. Billy still keeps a Bass Octave pedal in his effects chain and he uses it a subtle effect quite often. Bass Octave and fuzz is always good.

    heh I can see I commented a few years ago. So re-watching this video today and I'm still lost and no more ahead with the twin harmony drop down choices and figuring out which key solos are in is also beyond my casual playing experience. I wish helix had an easier option to help people with no theory or desire to intake theory.

    Hi Jason. Thanks for showing this effect block in a way that I could understand. You're a great teacher. Could it be possible to get some instructions on using the volume pedal on the LT? Mine seams to jump from 0 to 100 instead of slowly presenting the sound and I can't figure it out... :-(

    • @JasonSadites
      @JasonSadites  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      My pleasure and glad you enjoyed :-) Not sure why your expression pedal is working like that. You can look up my videos on use of the expression pedals and that might help.

    Hi Jason, I'm a long-time Helix (LT) user and big fan of your channel. I am working on doing a Hotel California cover, but I'm challenged using the Twin Harmony with changing scale and key. Based on a You-Tube video I am using to learn the riffs during the verses, I need to change keys and scales as follows: B harmonic minor (-3), A Major (-3) and then G Major (-3). I've attempted to use the expression pedal to accomplish this (as suggested in this video) but I'm only able to shift between 2 keys for some reason based on how I am setting the ranges on the pedal. Wondering if you have any insight. Thanks for what you do, without your videos I don't think I would have gotten the Helix to the level it is now.

    Hi Jason
    Thanks for the great videos. I recently purchased a HX Fx and am finding your lessons really useful. One comment on this lesson...... I’ve been trying to play the main solo from “more than a feeling”. It seems the harmony outlined in your video doesn’t work in the solo. It seems to deviate from a straight G maj. any comment? Would be interested to hear.

    • @JasonSadites
      @JasonSadites  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      My pleasure :-) Yes the main solo, if memory serves me correctly, is in fact in the key of D Major as opposed to the part of the song I was referring to in the video which is in G Major. So for the main solo you would want to set your Twin Harmony to the key of D Major. Hope that helps :-)

  • @aaronhill4886
    @aaronhill4886 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Random question: towards the end of the video, you were able to set up different intervals adjusted by your expression.
    With the expression pedal, would you be also be able to have it adjust keys but keep the same intervals?
    (Say: C--E for C major....then use the expression pedal to change to A major and then hear A--C#)?

    Alright, so my band plays Bodisattva by Steely Dan. At the beginning is the two guitar lines then it goes to three. For the life of me, cannot get all that to gel. Using a snap shot for the first harmonies which sounds fine, once I add in the mission for the third harmony, it goes to crap.

  • @dan_perry

    Great video Jason. By the way, I loved when you said playing modally, the Minor option is somewhat redundant since the Major option is already there. Very true. But I'm guessing Line 6 threw the Minor option in there to make it easier for those that may not fully get the direct relationships between different modes and their parent Major "base". And thanks for confirming the Twin Harmony does indeed seem to work better after gain than before. Thanks!

    So if I tune down a half step I need to be cognizant of that when using the Twin Harmony because it will assume my "A chord" is an A vs an actual G#. Jason, is there any tips you can give to make tones work for headphones? (maybe a dedicated video) .. rarely does a tone that sounds great while your setting them up on your FRFR sound good on headphones. I have a hard time with this since its how i use the helix while practicing at home. Thx!

    • @JasonSadites

      I would probably start by bringing your high cut down until it sounds acceptable. That may help what some people feel is a bit of a fizzy tone you get when listening on headphones. Let me know if that helps at all :-)

      Hey Jeff, no problem at all :-) It would be the key of D Major. Even though the chords are G Major and A Major under that solo section, the melody is straight from D Major so what you are soloing over is the IV and V chord of the key. Hope that helps!!
