I'm 35 and been living with my wall calendars falling off the wall because I could never get them flattened properly. Didn't know about this technique....going to try this now with my 2023 calendar. Thank you!
Thank you, just received my portfolio case w/sleeves and have about 17 prints to input. I was struggling with this so badly. Really worried I might damage a print through my antics. You just saved me.
Thank you!! I had a large format print I was trying to flatten by just laying it out with books and after 2 weeks it still was curling. Using this method it was perfectly flat after a few hours.
Mine wasn't protected very well. They rolled it in plastic then put it inside the box. The box got damaged a bit but my poster has creases and I need to know how I can remove them
Very helpful! A++ exactly what I was looking for. I guess it depends on the material, but this method only took 10 minutes to fully flatten. Thank you VERY much. 🙏🏻
Thanks for making this demo, very useful. There’s no description on your page what you do and link to your art page, would be useful to know more about your work! Cheers - robin
What should I do for a 24x36 poster that is autographed but the left and right sides from top to bottom are wavy and wrinkled. Got it brand new but for some reason after putting it in a frame wrinkles formed around the edges. Not going to risk any water spraying
My guess would be a similar principle, but weighted down more frequently, and possibly with a long flat object scrape it gently across the ripples to try flatten out. Sorry if this doesnt help much.
I’d recommend taking a lightly damp piece of paper towel and moistening the ripples, then use a clothing iron on a low heat setting. Make sure to keep a second piece of paper between the iron and poster tho so it’s not direct contact. Good luck!!
Hi , any idea how to get a straight wavey line not a full on crease out of a art print. I am seeing that you iron them but these are expensive prints and I don't want to turn them into bonfire ash. You sound intelligent and like you know what your doing this method you are showing wouldn't work for the issue I have neither will a lot of weight pressed on them. Does the ironing method actually work well, any idea. Thanks attractive lady.
Try this: Turn your print face down on a clean surface so the backside is up. Using a spray bottle with distilled water in it, lightly spray the crease/dent. You don't want to spray too much that the water soaks through to the other side and ruins the print. Then lay something that's bigger than the size of your print on top of the print - usually something that will absorb the water like poster board, foam core board or mat board works great. Then pile a ton of heavy things on top of the area where you sprayed...I mean A LOT of heavy things to where there's 100 pounds on it. Let it sit like that for a few hours and it should have flattened out.
@@kimknollart water on a print sounds frightening but I will try it on a cheaper print first thanks. There is usually method in what sounds like madness. Cheers
@@stevenlupanko2983 Yes, good idea to try it on a cheaper print first :) I should have said it depends on what paper it was printed on too. Some fine art papers are more durable than others and can hold up to getting wet.
If a delicate touch is required, I would also advise to choose carefully the spray pattern used to apply the water. You will want to apply an even, fine mist to the entire surface. This should be done in one even pass to avoid water buildup. You will also want to apply from a distance of at least a foot above the surface for even coverage. Make sure there are no larger droplets in the spray that could cause potential damage.
Please help!!! I have a few posters that were rolled in a tube. The tube has been water damaged and while I've just gotten the posters out, they are stuck together (in the rolled up position. The outside poster is the precious one. Should I try a little kettle steam? I'm not keen to use waxed dental floss as the posters date back to 1978. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Didn't work well for my case. I was shipped a 24X36 poster in about a 2 inch tube so as I started carefully tucking the poster under and rolling the opposite way- that caused bad creases in the bottom 3 inches of my poster unfortunately. I stopped and placed heavy books all over my poster on the table instead. Maybe my tube was too small for your method to work. Lesson learned.
32 years in art and I watch this video in horror. A number of creasing possibilities happened. This is fine for low value art....but this could make a $3000 heavy paper print lose hundreds of dollars of value. For high value prints, proper method depends on paper weight, diameter of tube, length of time in tube.
how would you have flattened this one? I agree that this could potentially damage a print, i remember doing something like this and getting a wavy print out of it. curious as to what your method might be
This does not take into account deformation laws. The tube has a smaller inside circumference than the outside. You are, effectively, exacting less force in the opposite direction when deformation laws require more force than was initially enacted upon the print inside the tube.
What about prints that have been stored in a roll for years? Unfortunately I learnt that paper has memory and is very hard to flatten after long term storage. Was hoping to laminate them, then hoping they stay flat when tacked on a wall.

How did it go?
This was actually a very helpful video! I recently bought a poster that arrived in a tube and I used this method. It flattened itself perfectly!
Thank you kindly for not stating your age, but confirming the method works, your a wonderful person ✌️
It’s crazy that I’m 29 years old and had to TH-cam this
That’s funny cause I’m 42 😂 great vid!
@@campos3452 Haha was gonna say the same and that I'm 34.. but you beat me..
haha... guess I'm the smartest here. I knew this. I should go to Ivy league.
I'm 34 and I am so glad i did. I was just going to try and mount straight from the tube. No way! I would have messed it all yp.
32 and same boat.

Thank you very much. I was searching for unrolling vinyl for cutting but this will do the trick. I appreciate it.
Thank you!!! This is very helpful!
Glad I decided to watch this first.
Thank-you! I had an 1/400 model scale airport and it came in a tube and this really helped! Thank you

I have a poster that size but the paper is thinner so even though it's flat it has ripples. How do I get rid of those? Thanks!

@@AlexaMaz thank you. I tried this but it didn't work. The paper is fairly thin and it just stayed rippled.

Will this work with laminated poster ?
Can you make video about how to fold an flatten rolled paper? Bc l’m trying to make dragon puppet by first time
I don’t get it! I need Part 2, please.
Great technique!
what's the print with the alphabet letters in the background?
That’s from my designer/artist friend Lou Medel. You can find him on IG @loumedel
Clever. Practical. Thank you!
Thank you!! Certainly very useful ❤🙏
Can I use this technique to unroll watercolour paper from a roll?
Yes! It should work on most rolled papers.
Can i use this technique with multiple posters at once?
I don't know - haven't tried it!
my dumbass thought gluing it to the wall would flatten it
great video thanks

I would really like to have seen it be unrolled and what it looked like after the 2-3 hours.
Thank you ❤️ , my Shawn Mendes is no longer folded 🤣😭
Wonderful! Thank you.
Easy and simple 👍
I usually just put it under my mattress and sleep on it for a few days.
Wtf ur actually goated
Don't think that would work in my case. I have slats. Not a box spring.
FANTASTIC!!!!
Thank you for the tip
Thanks you're a gorgeous woman.
You bet!
What is that board made out of?
It’s a foam core board
Nice easypeasy

What if it comes in a box?
Would not suggest doing this on super thick paper
Awesome thank you :)
Mine were sent in a rectangular box. Ugh
You look so beautiful
Thanks!
Thank youuu
Mine came in a triangle box 🤣
