I have found over the yrs......... large items mean more money on sales and more money on the build...... it also means more time on the build and more time on the sale because not everyone at the marketplace can afford large pricey items....... that being said at the end of a normal day I might sell one 1200.00 farm table or bed that will need to be delivered or changed to meet a color....... but I always manage to sell 800 to 1000 in smalls every weekend with no effort or sales pitch............ and most smalls are made with scraps !!!!!........ no such thing as a bad day selling smalls !!
Exactly!!! People don't realize the real cost of building a large nice item. Cost of material, time value of money (Your time is worth x amount), the build, the finish... And every day that piece hasn't sold is a day the your money is tied up. Sadly a lot of people will end up selling it for less just to move it. Smalls move!

I just LOVE you. Your vibe is helpful, humble, and sincere. You have opened up a whole new world to me and are an answer to prayer. Besides family, there are three things I love spending my time doing and one of them is NOT my job as an RN although I am very grateful for being able to do it these past 15 years. I love building stuff, love planting everything, love spending time with my lab. I had an inkling that I might be able to make things that people would buy but your videos make that seem like a real possibility. You have created the machine for me basically. I have rolled my eyes a time or two when you get preachy but honestly, you’re not wrong. 😅 I’m really grateful to you and I’m going to figure out how to give this a go and maybe I can retire! Thanks for all these ideas, and for being encouraging. I watched 3 videos last week, by guys, on building a small workstation for a portable table saw. One guy used not 1 but 2 FULL SHEETS of 7-9 ply cabinet plywood. That stuff is $220 a SHEET now. Pallet wood and pickets is more my style, repurpose and reuse where possible, thats what I like. I have a fence gate I have to rebuild, new wood will go into it, but I will reuse whatever is not rotten that comes out of it.
Dang brother! I absolutely love watching your videos! You have a true calling for inspiring and encouraging people! As a matter of fact, this weekend I tried making two of the farmhouse style planter boxes. Only problem is, I only have a circular saw to rip the pickets down (no table saw). So... after about 4 hours spent of me basically free-handing, ripping 1 inch strips of pickets down, I had almost decided that this whole wood working thing may not be for me. But then low and behold, I get up Monday morning and watch your newest video and I'm inspired again! Keep on rockin' brother!
I really liked when you mentioned people who say, that's not my style, that's not my gig.... we're in this to make products to make other people happy, and please others with our skills , it's not about what we want, as you said, anyone who only makes what they want, might make some money, but they're all about themselves, not others, so the little gains they find financially, are empty
The way I look at "smalls" is their importance can't be over stated. I don't have a 'gig'. To those who say, 'that's not my gig' , fine. Don't make them. But move over for those of us that are gonna make them. Go back to making your cool cutting boards with a with 110 glue-ups, that takes you 25 days to make, and you might be able to produce and sell 4 a month for $350.00 profit. I'll make twice that in 3hours on Saturday 😎 making my small quick stuff that keeps the bills paid. Thank you for continuing to motivate us.
I accidentally stumbled across your videos. I made an arbor for my wedding a few years ago and had so much interest when I sold it online I ended up building and selling about 30 more. Then Covid hit. 🤬 Just wanted to say your videos on selling "smalls" has inspired me to get back to creating some stuff to supplement my income. Keep 'em comin', brother!
@6:06 with those ceiling lights, thanks to my previous company I was working for, I acquired a big piece of lumber. They were renovating the area where the harbour receives the ships. One of these big pieces of lumber are many years old and have the look there after. A awesome chuck of wood that I got for free, since my boss didn't have to worry about getting rid of it. The point here is, that companies you work for or any local companies, might have some unique pieces of wood laying around, just waiting to be thrown out.
Love your smalls series. Just getting into woodworking. After a career of stick framing. Turned my 12’x12’ shed into a shop can’t wait to get some inventory and hit the local festivals and flea markets
Forty three years ago I made house signs. They were Western Red Cedar but they could have just as easily been made of boards salvaged from used pallets. A rubber stencil was applied to the face, a design was printed, a sewing perf-wheel was run over the pattern, and then pounced with a chalk bag. The design was then cut into the rubber stencil and the project taken to the sandblaster. They were a big hit. I also made a family crest about 4’x4’ with the street address in a banner across yhe bottom if the sign.
The sign was sandblasted & relief carved, then stained snd painted. About a ten hour project and the large family crest was stunning. My guess is that a large sign like that could today go for $2,500.

From one Matt to another thank you for the inspiration to start building to make some side money. I picked up a miter saw on sale $99 and found a $10 working table saw on market place. Combine that with what tools I already have and after a few planters I will be making money. I’m moving slow right now because I’m new at this but each step is a step forward. Always great stuff Matthew. Thanks for sharing your thoughts and information. Many brilliant projects and congratulations to those who sent their pictures of beautiful works
Thank you so much for your ideas. Starting out late in life and needing to work from home. You’ve given me some hope in your videos. You are extremely talented so wish me luck.
I got a deal with a local fence company where they bring me the old fencing and damaged new cedar boards instead of taking it to the dump. I probably have about 5000 board feet stacked up in the barn.
Thank you so much Matthew! You are such an inspiration! I feel blessed that I found your channel! I don’t even know you in person and I see you as a mentor!
Well... If you've seen any of my business videos I plainly say... It's not easy. If it were then everyone would be doing it. But as far as these builds... most are beginner projects that I would make even now.
no doubt its work. to me selling is the hard part. ebay wants your real bank account access, screw that! dont know about etsy. other online sellers are a pain in the rump.
Thank you, Matthew, great ideas, looking to put them into motion soon, just need to get materials!!! But still looking forward to an Adirondack Chair episode!!!
Please do more videos for those of us that are really really really beginners. Some of these things that you say are super easy don't look all that easy to me especially when I don't have very many tools

Where did you sell your items? Online? Local market place? I want to get started on this too. I am trying to come up with 3 to 5 items I can quickly make in small batches, easily reproduce and sell online.

Cool project ideas. Definitely worth adding to my project arsenal. RIP for the people who live in states with no discernable features to the shape (my home Colorado, and previously Wyoming).
It's time to get off my can and start making some smalls as I have a 120 year old barn that the wind took the roof off and it was already full of wood and I have around 200 pallets and have my own woods with lots of walnut oak maple
Thanks for these videos. I got tons of scrap wood I'd like to make something, instead of tossing them in the fire pit. especially with wood being costly.
I had some paver work done recently and the guy doing the work offered to redo a section of my fence for me for cheap. He was going to finish the pavers up on a Friday and come back Saturday and do the fence. I don't work Saturdays so I was going to be here to tell him to set all the slats aside for me to keep. It turns out he changed his mind and hired some helpers and they got the pavers finished and the fence redone while I was at work on Friday. The bad part is I never got to tell him to set the slats to the side and they hauled all of that off to the dump. At least 50 well-weathered fence boards gone. I was so bummed I didn't notice how great the new fence looks 😂
A similar thing happened to me. We had a tree cut down. Just white pine, but it was my son's tree he planted in fourth grade. I wanted logs to have milled to make furniture for him. The tree company gave me a date, then got done with another job early one day and came over, did our job and hauled away all the wood while we were working. We called immediately and he was able to bring some back from the person whom he dropped it off at, so all end well.

I'm glad that I found your videos. I'll be starting to build stuff soon. Thanks again.
Keep up the great job
Very cool Matt! I love the variety you shared. Something for everyone. Really enjoying your series and man is your channel taking off! Congrats! And I made the board *woohoo* lol

Hey I'm from KY to.... Barren county actually. Been watching your videos for a while trying to get my wood working biz going. Awesome to here your from the same place as selling these items in the same area as me
Hello neighbor!
Always great stuff Matthew. Thanks for sharing your thoughts and information. Many brilliant projects and congratulations to those who sent their pictures of beautiful works
Thanks! And yes there were tons of awesome builds!
Thank you so much for your ideas. Starting out late in life and needing to work from home. You’ve given me some hope in your videos. You are extremely talented so wish me luck.
You just may be my favorite TH-cam channel.
Thanks Peter!
Hey Dude,
I'm a novice wood worker in my time off from 14day hitches .
Great job and ideas 👍
I got a deal with a local fence company where they bring me the old fencing and damaged new cedar boards instead of taking it to the dump. I probably have about 5000 board feet stacked up in the barn.
Thank you so much Matthew! You are such an inspiration! I feel blessed that I found your channel! I don’t even know you in person and I see you as a mentor!
He definitely make it seem SO easy.
I love your videos and really want to try some of them! Plus you got me when you said KY! Born and bred!
Favorite one so far
❤ being bingeing on your videos. Great content

Thank you, Matthew, great ideas, looking to put them into motion soon, just need to get materials!!! But still looking forward to an Adirondack Chair episode!!!
Man! I love your videos. You always break it down so well. Thank you!
No worries! Thanks for watching!
Please do more videos for those of us that are really really really beginners. Some of these things that you say are super easy don't look all that easy to me especially when I don't have very many tools
I 1000% LOVE THESE VIDEOS!!!! Your so informative & supportive, it's so awesome to see all the beautiful things that you've inspired or supported ✨️ We need more like you!!! Thank you 😊
Hi Mathew I love your videos keep up the good information videos sir
Just started watching your videos and I love them. Also good to see someone else from Kentucky
I love the smalls/ I buy old mailboxes and turn them into bird houses making items going to trash sell for $35 I love smalls and all I have is a drill & stencils/ to start with
I make bird houses and wall hangings for the Kitchen and Bathroom and Laundry room, I sold completely out in one hour ,and come home with $2,000.00. Ive been retired for 5 years and love your videos.
Where did you sell your items? Online? Local market place?
I want to get started on this too. I am trying to come up with 3 to 5 items I can quickly make in small batches, easily reproduce and sell online.
4:10 - me realizing thats for outside garbage when i was planning on making one for garbage in the house! that would be amazing for homes with pets that are trash hounds!!
Hello neighbor! Thanks for sharing!
I've said it before and I'll say it again you're awesome 😎
Thank you! These are all great ideas!
Fantastic video
Cool project ideas. Definitely worth adding to my project arsenal.
RIP for the people who live in states with no discernable features to the shape (my home Colorado, and previously Wyoming).
It's time to get off my can and start making some smalls as I have a 120 year old barn that the wind took the roof off and it was already full of wood and I have around 200 pallets and have my own woods with lots of walnut oak maple
Thanks for these videos. I got tons of scrap wood I'd like to make something, instead of tossing them in the fire pit. especially with wood being costly.
new subscriber, thanks man. just startin out woodworking this summer so i can spend more time with family need to pay bills! great tips
Another great video appreciate your videos. Honest and informative. Thanks from a fellow Kentuckian
Oh man... wheres this dump located... 😬

@@tombloy4244 that was close! I'm glad you got it back.
Thanks for a great Channel. I look forward for more
