I am so glad to have found your videos. They are a huge help. I've got a clunking in the rear of my 69 and was thinking of checking the shocks. I'm learning but with your videos I can learn what to expect and how to do If needed.
    Thanks,
    Tony

Always wondered about "servicing" the lever shocks on my TR3A....After 51 years (and your tutorial) I just may get around to it.....Good thing is, I have lots of 30w fork oil and my '79 Yamaha triple shouldn't mind.....Thanks ..

Yes so have I, Came across this by 'accident' and wish I had found it earlier. I have a Mark 1 Ford Consul (19550. Would like to know how I can service my front shacks. Car is all original including paint work and interior. Motor has 53000 miles on it, also original so want to keep it that way. Any help would be GREATLY APPRECIATED!!

good morning, Chef - hope you don't mind that I shared this vid in my blog this week. I've seen a few threads on shock conversions, and I think most don't know about this upgrade, and how well these levers can perform. Keep up the great work! #guvnal #theguvnablog

I will second that comment about great timing!!! I just got a new set of Armstrong shocks from TRF and really had no idea how to properly install them... now thanks to your video Tush, I have my weekend project all set!!! Thanks for taking the time to go through the process.

We used to rebuild the Armstrongs with the racing spring and fill with caster oil. The Armstrong oil was about 10 Wt.and was a vegetable base oil, and Castor is around 40 Wt

Hi, my shocks on my 75 TR6 have never been opened up. I actually find the suspension a little bit hard, and I’d like to soften up the ride just a little bit. Would you know what oil weight was used originally? Then I can decide, what oil weight to replace it with to give me a softer ride. Thanks, Dave

Hi Dave, the shocks were originally filled with 20W oil. Cheers, Tush

Yet again, I find a video from you that I needed. My rear suspension is far softer than the front. I’ve been reading up on shock conversion methods but I have too many things going on with the car already, but changing out the shock oil appears to be doable in a timely manner (famous last words!).
Was one litre of the 30W enough to do both shocks? And next, find a retailer who carries it. I also saw a very short clip of a lever shock ‘clicking’ and I also have a clicking sound when I bounce the rear suspension, I’m concerned the shock may have further issues. I’ll find out once it’s disconnected. :-/

Hi Dave. Try a motorcycle shop for the oil. It may be clicking if it’s low on oil

Watched this for the second time as I am just about to refill the rear dampers on my Bugeye Sprite! Is it necessary to remove the valve assembly? Just thinking it would probably take longer to fill without doing so. I'm really enjoying your channel. Cheers, Ian.

Hi Ian, yes you can definitely do this without removing the valve assembly. Cheers, Tush

Interesting to see, I wouldn't have thought anybody had a factory shock that was rebuildable.

  • @Fenixx117

So I can just fill up my shock with a better fluid and replace bad gaskets and that's it instead of having to send it off for a rebuild? That easy? If so I'm relieved

    • @cheftush
      @cheftush  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That’s correct.

But if it's leaking through the shaft where the lever arm is connected then it's off for a rebuild I think

Great video been wondering how to service the ones on my 1955 Mark 1 Ford Consul; now I know. Any ideas on hot to do it on my front ones. They are the ones that are topped up with oil by removing a bolt on the side? Many thanks
