I saw Ralph Stanley with my mom in Richmond a few many years ago. She passed away in 2012, and this was one of the songs we played as we laid her to rest. Peaceful and full of love.
Just watched episode of American Pickers where they bought a few thousand dollars worth of your uncles memorabilia like a jacket, boots, pictures etc. Was very heartwarming as the Picker guy was very respectful and a huge fan.
What A Precious Precious song surely inspired by the hope in Christ himself Thankyou Ralph Stanley for this song R.I.P. my brother in the arms of Jesus
Thank you! I was preparing my husband's body with a hospice nurse, and half-consciously humming this song (I do not have a lovely voice - it was quiet. But the nurse looked at me, not 'Why are you singing', but 'I know that song', and she joined me while we finished our work.
RIP Ralph Stanley...you were the songs of my childhood echoing through the Appalachian hills, you were the strum on my daddy's guitar, you were my grandmother's hum. The Angel Band has one more now.
Alwas sang at the funerals back home in the mountains. The combination of this song and Ralph's voice always seemingly brout some peace to all who were grieveing.
this song is my mothers favorite song. shes gone now shes been gone for 15 years .now and she used sing this song to me and i havent heard this song since we put her to rest. we sang this song for her god bless you i know where your coming from
You know, some of the most Blessed people on this earth give of themselves so freely and without regard to their age. Dr. Ralph Stanley is one of those very special people. As one of the previous posters commented he is the true meaning of the "Southern Gentleman"
Kelly White, This is my choice for my dad's funeral as well, if I'm asked to sing. He's still with me--that's such a blessing from God! 93 and still as cantankerous as he was at 83!
OMG,..I shed a tear reading your comment,..My younger years were the same,...What I would give to go back!!,...many blessings to you and your family!....
I LOVE this SONG so much, I want it played at my funeral, ===not sad ! PEACEFUL, BEAUTIFUL, UP LIFTING.. We come into this ole world alone, But, we don't leave alone.. Thank- you very much for this video... Peace...
Ralph Stanley was one of my dad's favorite...I can see him sitting on the front porch with his little radio listening to the Bluegrass Chanel after spending a day in the garden.....they played this at his funeral in Eastern KY a year ago, a lot of tears were shed.
I grew up with some of Ralph Stanley's family in California and they would often bring me along to his performances. I feel very blessed to have seen this living legend and his amazing band perform live. I'm glad that "O Brother, Where Art Thou?" exposed a wider audience to his music. This is a lovely song.
The latest sun is sinking fast, my race is nearly run My strongest trials now are past, my triumph is begun O come Angel Band, come & around me stand O bear me away on your snowy wings to my immortal home O bear me away on your snowy wings to my immortal home
O bear my longing heart to Him who bled & died for me Whose blood now cleanses from all sin & gives me victory
I dont know why but some songs brings to tears, without to understand what they are singing. This one is one of them, maybe i m too emotional those times, but that song is one of them. Great job guys.

I feel your pain. Rest in the assurance that there is a Great Comforter promised us from Jesus Christ, and He has them in His care now. Faith is enough. I miss my Mamaw everyday, and it's been over thirty years since she passed from this world.
I am an atheist...With that said I have always adored Dr Ralph Stanley ...I really wish I would have had the chance to meet him and shake his hand just one time....such a remarkable man .
Aaron Kainz to bad because if you weren't one you would still have a chance to shake his hand in heaven . Maybe you should think again where your heart is and where it should follow. God bless.💕

There seems to be a lot of confusion as to what the song is about. It's a Christian Gospel song about Christians dying and going to heaven where they see an Angel band. If you really want something from the song, and if you'd like to actually see what Ralph speaks of, then bow your head and call out to Christ.
My Mom wanted this sung at her funeral and so do I. Love love this song!
We sang this to my dad at his bedside while he passed, and I sang it again at his funeral. God bless you Mr. Stanley and your late brother too.
The Angel Band just kicked it up a notch. RIP, Dr. Ralph.

It's funny you say that; it was sang at my uncle Roger and Uncle Mike's funerals. They're both great men who grew up in rural Alabama such as myself.
