Using Windows 7 on "unsupported" hardware...

- Microsoft says you need at least 2 gigabytes to install Windows 7 on a computer. So let's install it on 512 megabytes, or actually 477 usable megabytes.
For context if needed:
Microsoft states that Windows 7 requires at least 1 GHz, 2 GB (or 1 GB for 32-bit copies) of memory, and around 16-20 GB of hard drive space. According to BetaWiki, the original release of Windows 7 (and Service Pack 1) can actually been installed on as low as 256 megabytes, and on a processor as old as the original Intel Pentium (released in 1993), as the installer does not check for a required processor generation. However, an update in 2018 did mandate SSE2 support, thus bumping up the CPU requirement up to the Pentium 4 (released in 2000)
The computer used in this video is a circa 2013/2014 "Spartan MS-163K", a rebadged version of the MSI PR-601 notebook computer (a model that dates back to 2008, where back then it came with Windows Vista Business, which came with either 512 MB or 1 GB, the former proving that this same video scenario can occur with Windows Vista). It has a processor and hard drive that fit within Microsoft's specified system requirements, however the memory "requirement" is not met.
There you go, the honestly unnecessary explanation I feel is required for me to give so everyone is happy. Oh, and on the exact opposite end of the spectrum, perhaps I should try this same concept, but with hardware "too new" to run Windows 7...
Anyways, I hope you enjoy this video! I decided to do some experimenting with this video, and I think that will have paid off fairly well.

some lappys use a non-rechargeable CMOS battery. Others, like some Tecras, have a *rechargeable* CMOS-backup battery. And still others - like some Toshiba C50-B, have no CMOS battery at all & rely on a harder-to-remove main laptop battery instead, to maintain CMOS contents.
Okay, thanks for the tip!
1:30 what's the song it's so catchy
3:00 okay I must know what the songs are
So I can use this for my Windows Server 2019 Datacenter SSD
It's called "Addicted" by VYEN (iirc), it can be found in the TH-cam Audio Library.
Hope this helps!
Beneath the recommended spec and it still runs with Aero.
Yeah, it somehow works!
At least it can run aero, I’d take that over anything 😂
Yeah; I thought there was a minimum requirement for Aero but I guess not.
@@steelsofliquidMin a DirectX 9.0c driver/. Wddm 1.0
@@steelsofliquid you cannot run aero on windows 7 starter edition
Great✌
Thanks!
@@steelsofliquid thanks
nice bro wow
Thanks!
Peggie’s a good game
Yeah, it was one of the first computer games I ever played.
New experiment
Can Genshin Impact run on my Windows Server 2019 Datacenter SSD
It probably can. A lot of XP software will also work on Windows Server 2003 (which was used as the codebase for XP Professional x64), so I wouldn't be surprised if this is still in place to this day.
Really buggy when u install on unsupported software..
It can actually be difficult to use in some cases, such as in a lot of games as well as in Windows Media Center. I have a pretty good feeling it explains why I was having problems with Media Center in an older video about a public beta build of Windows 7.
lowest i've installed Windows 7 on was a laptop with 256MB of RAM was a slow POS.
Yeah, Windows 7 runs on as old as the original Pentium and as low as 256 MB, though I have a PC of neither of those qualities (yet).
Also, that's amazing!
@@steelsofliquid Go get one. Doit. Be like me, and have too many PCs.
Msi laptop windows 7 ooh
It's based off of the MSI PR601, though the case badging says its a Spartan MS-163K. It's literally an MSI laptop though, so the badging doesn't mean much.
@@steelsofliquid Ok
2hu games lul
yeah, i could've also tried MoF but I went with PCB for this video
weeb
Okay
