Since getting the o3 system I have broken 2 o3 airunits in crashes. DJI has been AMAZING at repair service both times, first time was free and the second was very affordable to repair like new, and the turn-around time was only about a week with free shipping. I wholeheartedly believe DJI has my back when and if I have issues with their hardware. I will continue to be vocal and open about my positive experiences with DJI.
I've got two I broke over the winter. DJI was good? I just assumed they were trophies at this point lol. Can I ask what they charged for the repair? I'll send them in asap as I have two dead quads right now :)
Dji has some great products. I moved away from that company because of their shady business practices. It's like nestle lol they make delicious food but the company is completely evil

I have both DJI 03 and just got walksnail and haven't had any problems with the walksnail with any of the new updates and I have both single antenna and dual so I'm wondering if you did something wrong?
Thank you! I was about to jump into the FPV game and was up in the air about WalkSnail. After watching this, I decided to order the DJI Avata 2 as my “starter”. I’m a “camera drone” hobbyist and now fly mostly the Mavic-3 and Mini-3-Pro. While I’m an EE and RF hobbyist, I just don’t have the time or motivation to build my own. I can’t stand DJI’s constant nickel and diming practice of making nothing interchangeable, even in their own brand. Thanks!

I have the hdzero goggles and they are amazing. I 3d printed a custom vrx holder and it looks like dji. Hdzero is on another level. It even makes analog look nice
It looks like you’re quite heavy handed when you work. I’ve never had any issues. It’s a great system, very robust and easy to work on. Goggles X have been amazing, absolutely no issues and amazing range even with the stock omnis (3km tested so far). I still get video through 100 meters of trees, it’s amazing! Very comparable to O3, I was very surprised. I really like how easy they are to update and how easy and quick it is to move video recordings from the VTX. Video quality is amazing even from the lowest tier HD V2!
I'm pretty sure I have the same VTX, Avatar HD Pro 32gb , I changed mine to RHCP and getting more than 2.5kM , battery gets low have to turn around, I love this setup. Not sure if any of this would help
Two months ago Avatar module burned out after a few uses and 30 seconds of flying. They said to send it to China for repair, I sent it to them, in the end they said it is not repairable and there is no warranty because the warranty period is over (although they didn't say anything about it after I sent them the serial number of the device). They said they could give me a discount on a new unit, so I bought a new unit with a discount. The other day I started it up and it burned up after 30 seconds of flight, burning the ESC at the same time. I do not advise anyone to contact this company, the quality of equipment is low, as well as the quality of support.
It sounds like you know what your doing but if its stuck in 25MW I would make sure you have your MSP port correctly in betaflight. Also turn off the low power mode. Just my 2 cents. I have gave up on WS for now but I would love to see things improve over time. I am flying vista and V2 and have 0 issues. So from the sound of it from you and others I should keep flying what I have for now. THX for the real oppinion on the product.
Well that helps reaffirm my decision not to get Walksnail. I am switching to digital from Analogue this week and am waiting for my first batch of digital kit to arrive. On the advice of several friends I am switching to HDzero as it seems to be a better fit for my use. DJI is just ridiculously over priced even though it is good, Walksnail I've been told to avoid like the plague so HDzero it is. Now I have found your channel and seen your issues, I'm glad I made the decision I did! Thanks for making this video, it's helped me make peace with my choice.
Recently got the whole system with the Nano V3 Kit and no issues as of yet. I will say though, the patch antenna fit was not great and I really had to force it in there.
I have been dipping my toe in digital using walksnail. I also have been very disappointed so far. Analog is much better for me at this point. I'm still tinkering with walksnail on one quad, though.
Interesting. My V1 goggles & VTXs have been solid, my X goggles have p much become my normal use ones and have also been solid. I also have a set of Recons which get used as ridealong goggles. I do have the new heatsink for my X goggles but haven't gotten around to installing it yet. I do have the "official" goggles X patches on mine as well. No fitment issues. I did mount mine so that the antennas are connected to the top ports rather than the bottom ones as I get better range & penetration with a patch on the TX port. Concur that the included stubbies are not that good, I have a pair of the TrueRC ones which I swap back and forth from my V1 goggles. 36.42.4 firmware across the board. Kernel version. The only VTX I've had an issue with was a V2 single antenna one which died in flight. I was lucky in that it was on a wing. My standard procedure for launching FPV fixed-wing craft is that I check for video then launch and climb out LOS. Once at a safe and unobstructed altitude I set the craft to loiter, put my goggles on and go fly. In this case the goggle DVR revealed that the VTX died shortly after I threw the plane into the air. Was it a power spike? Did something inside the craft physically short out? Don't know! I did report the failure to Caddx; they replaced the failed VTX for free. My other 9 or 10 VTXs are a mixture of V1 dual antenna, V1-1S, V2 single antenna, V3-1S and V3 mini. Some have had easier lives than others... the ones in fixed wings look pristine while the ones in quads are all dusty AF and covered in tree bark & grass residue but all continue working well. Hit me up if you decide to exit the ecosystem, I can always use more gear on the cheap :)
BTW I only use the 25 megabit setting. higher bitrates == less range & penetration. im not a "content creator" so IDGAF about recording quality... happy to trade that for distance.
LOL this is how I feel every few weeks. I've gone through 5 vtx's now. It works great at first, with trueRC antennas, and then after a couple of crashes I start losing range and the latency starts bouncing around. I found 2 things: the VTX antenna is garbage. I had 2 break internally on me now. Something breaks in there, it jiggles around, and its hard to notice. Range drops to shit. I've also had components simply fall off the board on my 1s vtx's. In 2 cases it happened to be the impedance matching network components for the antenna, so range went to shit. I suspect these things also overheat so easily that it damages the amplifier output and that kills your range. On my long range quad which I don't crash, I can go 5 miles with TrueRC patch antennas. My freestyle and whoops however just chew through vtx's. $100 for a crash basically with these boards
Never got my hands on digital fpv, but I even uploaded a video about it when these goggles came out. For me, this model is the expression of walksnail fear of hdzero's future. I'm just a brazilian wannabe/noob pilot, but intuitively and based on trends i've been perceiving, this goggles are the image of caddx despair. Thanks for the vid. Here in brazil a system like this costs 4 months of work, so it's always cool to get to know about experiences like yours. We do not get complaint content like this in brazilian portuguese.
Personally, I don't think Walksnail is the answer to HDzero, rather, the answer to DJI as a digital system. It's just not been a very smooth ride. I think it's important to touch on problems with a company and a product, there are too many people out there shilling for a company or begging for sponsorships to make money. I will always be honest. I will always only give my opinion on something I have used extensively and had time to really digest the product. Some people appreciate this and some people don't. So i'm happy to hear this video might be useful to you!
I have admittedly not tried the DJI system, I went from analog to Walksnail about 2 months ago and for whatever reason have had the complete opposite experience from you. I’m sorry to hear how bad your experience has been, but maybe it is helpful to know there are some of us who are absolutely loving the WS system as it is right now.
Damn I feel you!! I was gonna comment and say I’ve had great experience with the 1s vtx then I heard you mention it! I have 6 of them and just one gave trouble where it lost binding and I have to rebind every time I connect a battery, but the others have been rock solid! I never got anything other than the 1s. The newer one with the 500mw gets waaaay too hot and draws more power. Also I had a huge intuition about those goggles X having trouble so I held out as much as I wanted them and I’m SO damn glad I did!!! I have the dominator v1 and it’s the absolute best! I have a feeling they will get it right at some point but for now it’s just them throwing things out there and seeing what works
Other example, Im new to FPV and used the walksnail vTx v2 on my first quad. It works excellent. I have very stable image, framerate also very good for my range tests. Sorry to hear you have that problems.
Completely agree dude. I just recently got into this system (Goggles X and nano vtx/cams) after flying analog, Dji (vista/o3) and Hdzero.. and this system is more headache than it's worth I think. I am going to keep with it, in hopes of the current issues being ironed out. But if they aren't fixed by summer time, I will throw in the towel I think. No goggles should get this hot, regardless of firmware. I live in fucking Washington. It aint warm here this time of year, but these goggles get so hot that they go into thermal shutdown. Half the time my goggles don't even boot up. My biggest gripe has been the lack of consolidated information regarding updating firmware, or rolling back firmware. It would seem that there are all these little specific steps that are ONLY available in the darkest depths of the Walksnail Discord channel. Never mind Discord's search function being a god damn joke.. Things like files having to be renamed, or when to reset goggles OR Vtx OR reset all, what the fucking LED means when it's flashing vs when it's solid (flashing should mean updating, but several people say theirs are solid on update) etc etc etc. If the system just worked, then I would love it. All of the different sized air units and the fair pricing, along with Gyroflow integration, and onboard recording, low light, Vrx, are all such badass components to be supplying the fpv community with. But this system in its current state will drive newbs away, and waste a lot of time of seasoned veterans to fpv. I've been in fpv since 2017, so I have been around the block regarding doing updates and building. I hope they don't just continue to work on new products without getting all of this figured out.
I call dibs on your vrx, if you're throwing it out! Jk .. but I'm actually happy with the walksnail v1 goggles + their HD Pro night camera. Everything was quite good when it comes to that. The night camera. The goggles. Lately I've also flown the walksnail quad with my x-real glasses, and it's quite comfortable... (It just plugs into my walksnail goggles.. and I've been meaning to get the walksnail vrx just to shed some weight for that. It only does 1080p60 though). The v2 goggles and the moonlight system just didn't seem worth the "upgrade" to me.
a lot of people tried to tell me "get walksnail, they are better, support the smaller buisnesses" ect. Ended up going with a Vista and some goggles Integra and no regrets so far
Sorry bro. I have goggles x And I have zero issues. Patches were tricky to get in there. But after they clicked in. They won’t pop off and I’ve dropped them on my counter pretty hard
Put that new heatsink back on but trim off the excess metal off the front of it before putting it back on. The extra metal hanging off blocks the signal. Even on the stock cooler.
My 1200$ setup is under lake Ontario cause of this shit. And i have the pro vtx combo with vrx. It would never go over 25mbps and would lag randomly. And before that another quad was lost with the 1s vtx. And on this 1200$ setup i had a BRAND NEW X3 that i didn’t even have a single video exported. Im honestly done with ws as well.
I've had similar issues with the v2 vtx single antenna. Got it repaired twice by caddx but still has issues, using it killed my camera. All other vtxs seem OK.
Honest in FPV?!? thank you sir!! Too much absolute crap getting promoted in our hobby. Analog or Vista for me. Latest versions of Betaflilter don't hold a tune consistently and are also buggy as hell, I've switched to Kiss Ultra and converted all my Betaflight boards to Quicksilver, which has been surprisingly good.
This is exactly why I didn't want to buy this crap even though it was suggested to me in a known FPV influencer discord as a complete noob. There's already enough tinkering in the hobby without having to trick a $600 pair of goggles into working properly out of the box.
Seems to be the experience of the community, some have no issues at all, some have nothing but… I’ve been building quads for 2 years at this point, I’m also an engineer by trade. So I’m fairly certain it’s a walksnail qc problem all around

Yep... I hated DJI for being "evil", but it turns out that they're all "evil"... Caddex has really shown their colors, lately - hammering out new product before the fix their existing problems. They still haven't released a 30cm coax cable, for gosh sake!! Just more greedy chinese behavior - relying on community development, etc. I really wish I had just purchased the DJI - gosh darn it - I have like 5 walksnail systems - uhhggg... DJI's on sale now... Mad's Tech's tear-down and cataloging the VTX's shitty power input stage did it for me - I'll be getting 03 asap.
Never had any of these issues. I also have DJI and haven't touched it since I got walksnail. I run the 1s VTXs on my micros and the V2 single antenna on my 5 inch quads. When you update you need to hit reset all settings. Then actually go through and set it all up. I run 720p, high framerate, high bitrate, 3dnr set to mid. Looks better than my vista's ever did. Has the same range and penetration as my vista's did. But way better latency. Have tons of friends who also use walksnail and love it. I get being frustrated but could be your settings. Could be you not hitting reset after updating. I use true RC antennas and rush cherry on my quads. Haven't missed DJI at all. Sucks you are having problems. But my guess is operator error. I mean no offense by that. It's not as idiot proof as DJI, it takes understanding the settings and process. It's an amazing alternative to DJI. But if you just want simple pretty picture. 03 is better for that. If you wsnt something that is better than a vista or vista replacement for all your stuff. Want tons of options in cams and VTXs. Walksnail is the way to go. I also run VBAT power, and make sure my antenna connections are very secure as they are a weak point in the hard ware. But many crashes later it's still all working great.
One thing I didn’t mention is that I did do resets between upgrades, however I’m not the only one with this experience. I’m glad it works for you though!
This kind of thing is unacceptable, it's not like it's a cheap system, everything about this situation makes me feel that all the walksnail development and production has been super rushed. It's like half the features and half the hardware is just an afterthought. When I was building my digital rig last year, I looked at the walksnail stuff, but luckily I decided to go with dji v2 goggles and the o3. There were a couple annoying things like the fcc file hack and getting Betaflight osd to work with the o3, but in terms of problems that was it. Especially with that issue you were talking about with the patch antenna, like come on thats an OEM part and they still manage to make it not fit their own product? How does that happen? I've got aftermarket patch and omni's from lumineer and it fits perfectly, and it is not even an OEM part. I really don't like dji as a company and I would rather give my money to someone else, but walksnail seems even shadier than dji. Walksnail seems to have the issues of both digital and analog baked into one, and that is kind of a hard thing to sell. Honestly I think walksnail needs to take a step back and look at what makes the o3 system sell so well, it is reliable, it doesn't try to pack in a million features, but the things it does do it does really well. If Walksnail does not simplify their products and make them reliable, they as a company will fail.
I’ve had the same shitty range and penetration problems. I have the dual true air mk2 and even with those the range is still not what I see others have on TH-cam with their walksnail systems or even from my friend’s walksnail setups. I love the feel of walksnail while flying but the range is so bad and untrustworthy that I don’t fly it nearly as much compared to my o3 setups. I wish I woulda went with hd zero as a second system instead of walksnail at the moment
Walksnails v2 single antenna VTX was a total flop from what I've read. Their firmware is literally a joke. Good news is the wifi wont burn out without an antenna being connected, but i would use the ufl wire left over still and strip the shielding back to about 12-13mm and call it a day, no need to mess with it again unless you are having range issues. Hdzero doesnt even run an antenna, just a ufl connector for their wifi. If i didnt love my 1s 3" so much, i would completely ditch Walksnail and run vistas.
Man I'm sorry to hear this iv have flown walksnail for almost a year now and this 8s the worst iv heard I'm still on my First par of goggles and I still have my first vtx and 8 fly the shit out of it I still have a v1 and can go miles in the air
i was on the fence and just got o3/goggles integra this week. Kinda regretted not going with walksnail but now i'm on the fence again 😅 they are all bad in their own way
Um man I'm so sorry you're dealing with this on this level that's truly a shaite situation. You've got a really bad string of bad luck with the system man I can't blame you for being fired up. I'm just gonna offer this. My experience with the vrx is that I don't ever go past 700mw 25mb 720p on my hdz goggle with them. I've flown long range with it at this setting and gotten damn near two miles out on the v1 version of the vtx. I do not use walksnail antennas at all I get my own and currently using cheapo flyfish rc stubbies on my vrx they are fantastic. Haven't done any bando bashing with the system just regular freestyle.. maybe try lower power settings see if that helps at all.. these hdsystems drop power levels once they get hot and those goggles are not a goog design frankly no cooling in that thing
Sucks your are having so many issues man. I'd be just as pissed off. Personally, though, I have 9 WS quads plus the VRX and I have not had a single issue. However what your are experiencing with Walksnail, I experience with BetaFPV products. Very poor quality control. Wish i had an answer for ya
I agree with this all 100% Thankfully I only have the 1S and nano v3 VTXs so I haven’t had a vtx issue but I’m on my second set of goggles that now also don’t work. They definitely are not willing to give refunds and it’s brutal.
Initially I was disappointed at how they took a month to ship my first order, then after waiting a month for my second vtx to ship I decided I would not migrate any more analogue aircraft to digital. I still run high spec analogue that comparatively gives excellent picture quality and huge range. The WS image is great, but I just feel like I can't trust it for long range, and I refuse to risk any more FW updates to accommodate future vtx purchases, I'll stick to my Phoenix/Rush Tank Solo combo's from here on. I actually believe their transmitters have extremely fragile and highly stressed output PA, and even landing upside down with the antenna in the grass can kill the PA. Sorry to hear your experience is so bad, that would sour me forever.
I just bought a pair of skyzone o4x pros to replace my WSX, and Ill just use the VRX when I need to. I wont switch to analog as my primary, but when I want to whoop and/or WS.. I have those options now.
While the durability of WS hasnt been great for me, I've been pretty happy with the Dominator HDs and the WS system. Wish the repair system was in a better situation, but what're you gonna do 🤷♂️
I've never had any of these problems with the dominator HD or the Recon goggles or the VRX. these problems seem like a goggles X problem. I've run my dominators with the walksnail brand stock stubby antennas out to over 4km. never had a problem with a VTx, they get hot on max power, don't overheat them. never buy any FPV product within a year of release, even DJi are trash for the first year until the community fixes the problems. :/
oh man, that was depressing to hear, as I can not afford DJI 03, let alone to have multiple 03 units on multiple quads, Im not going to lower video quality and get HDZero or analog, but really, what are our options at this point? Sell our private information to the commies through DJI for good video quality on our drones, or take a chance on caddx. Seems like there is good and bad in whatever I decide to go with.....or keep flying LOS
Currently got 5 WS kwads and not a single problem. I assemble the 5 of them. How come all the problem goes to one usser and non for others? You should consider archery or something else.

goggles have a 2 year warranty, vtx has 1 year. Why can't you return them? If it's out of warranty then I'm not sure why you kept something that didn't work for over a year.
Warranty would just be a replacement. TBH I dont want the goggles anymore haha. I dont think the goggles are really even the root of the issues discussed here, it's mostly the VTXs and the firmware.
I stayed away from caddix stuff, because it always looks like beta/unfinished stuff. Even their analog cams are bad quality with QA issues reported all the time.
… one thing I’ll say is that if I ever got into the walksnail ecosystem, I would probably go with the Fatshark Dominator HD googles. At least Fatshark knows how to build a good goggle.
i´m also pissed at the moment. i´m on vacation and thought it would be a good idea to have my Meteor 75 HD Pro walksnail Edition to fly in the city... the first day my googles worked ok, 8 Lipos, than it overheated, or what ever ... now its sometimes not starting, or it crashs right after the start. with a little bit of luck, i can fly one Lipo, every ~10 tries starting the google x... glad that i use the O3 System in my bigger quads and they are also with me. Never had any issue with the DJI O3 have 8 of them, and all are fine. So Walksnail / Caddx hopefully will do theire homework soon. P.S. "the cable" of the moonlight system had me also started... bad design again ...
Same experience with the v1 system....(Please dont take this video down) Like ok i get it... FPV and RC Hobby is and has alwys been... you know a market for dumb people so to say. But This tops it all off again. The differece between realistic views on this products vs fakey Internet content is like a canyon full of shit. Walksnail constantly pushes out new and shiny products even if the FIRMWARE doesnt fullfills the needs of 99% of pilots since the v1 goggles and vtxes. I bought the first version of the goggles and vtxes nearly when they came out with the intension to test a new and interesting product and to see how it develops. And i dont regret it to doday because i learned so much about this and other fpv products. To name the Issues i have with this system: - It seems caddx does put effort into listening to the consumer but sadly only on the hardware side of things. - They couldnt fix the firmware to work decently with theyre supplied antennas till now (i use patches too) - Its still smeary aka compression works terrible - Why build the vtxes so they can accidently split in half smearing thermal paste all over the place? - Why use shitty connectors for uart? - why use shitty connectors for usb?? USB-C has been a thing since when??? - The fan is shit quality inside the goglles it started rattling in no time - 1200mw still doesnt have any benefit compared to 700mw Other than that... im pretty happy that caddx did anything. But for now its not reliable and i wouldnt dare to do any professional work or long-range with walksnail. Ps.: I have that feeling with the lite vtx too. For me it performs much better in image quality and link than the big vtxes. Strange
but it cant be worst than DJI :) (good luck repairing one, like apple no right to repair, it's laggy out of the box ) you cannot trust them but as a plus its closed ecosystem and cost a ridiculous price dji is cool as long as you'v been gifted the stuff.

My system works great every since I had it V1 and the V2 my thing is I do not download or flash unstable firmware, nor do I reflash that often you know that old saying if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it I’m just saying
I almost bought the new goggles, I have the external vrx and it has been great BUT I’m not buying anything !more until they get there shit straight. They need to straighten up the firmware and some quality control. The bit with the antenna stuck to the removable panel is just dumb.

Weird. I have goggles x, patches fit fine. I also have quads with every single model of vtx except the bare bones 1s board and everything has worked fine. You need to see a shaman and get that bad mojo cleansed.
@DanoFPV The day after I typed that my camera failed on the v2 1s vtx and had it not been over grass when it did it would have probably destroyed my favorite 3". I was moving pretty quick and too far away to try to LOS it back to me. It was transmitting some data because as I move it around the colors change but it's just vertical line "static".
Firstly when i first saw the goggle x i was like that looks like a piece of shit compared to the v1. There have been a lot of reports of the v2 vtx's being worse than v1 in range. I wonder if the quality is also shitter. I personally will probably just stick to two quads on the v1 vtx and goggles and run fw 31 which works great with really good range and focus new builds in hdzero.
Yep hdz was great, I just need more pene and range.. the hdz goggles are too heavy imo, and the vrx is capped at 60fps. I’ll def be watching hdz for the future tho

Sounds like you are stuck in 25mW power setting . Your sd card isn't the right kind or it broke or something . You might mW and bitrates or something mixed up . Or weak battery . On high piwer 1200 mW setting they use up batteries 40 times faster than 25 thousandths of a watt setting

One went in the gulf of mexico and the other sat on the roof of a bando for half the winter. The one that sat on the bando probably would have been fine if it hadn't already been abused so hard over the summer. I guess I'll stick with my v2s and 03. Maybe when o4 comes out the o3 air units will get cheaper. Nothing else seems close imo
Wow, you are certainly not whining at all. This is why I still fly analog. You have at least $2,000 + invested in just one portion of quad. These companies are going to put themselves out of business for just crap. Honestly I cannot afford to loose thousands on crap just for a hobby. I truly love FPV and I have to be careful so that I do not make these giant mistakes. Man I feel for you. Thanks soooo much for a honest well deserved rant. The truth is this is probably saving a whole bunch of people from going through a nightmare like you and just quitting all together. Since getting the o3 system I have broken 2 o3 airunits in crashes. DJI has been AMAZING at repair service both times, first time was free and the second was very affordable to repair like new, and the turn-around time was only about a week with free shipping. I wholeheartedly believe DJI has my back when and if I have issues with their hardware. I will continue to be vocal and open about my positive experiences with DJI.
I've got two I broke over the winter. DJI was good? I just assumed they were trophies at this point lol. Can I ask what they charged for the repair? I'll send them in asap as I have two dead quads right now :)

I’m a “camera drone” hobbyist and now fly mostly the Mavic-3 and Mini-3-Pro.
While I’m an EE and RF hobbyist, I just don’t have the time or motivation to build my own.
I can’t stand DJI’s constant nickel and diming practice of making nothing interchangeable, even in their own brand.

I have the hdzero goggles and they are amazing. I 3d printed a custom vrx holder and it looks like dji. Hdzero is on another level. It even makes analog look nice

It looks like you’re quite heavy handed when you work. I’ve never had any issues. It’s a great system, very robust and easy to work on.
Goggles X have been amazing, absolutely no issues and amazing range even with the stock omnis (3km tested so far). I still get video through 100 meters of trees, it’s amazing! Very comparable to O3, I was very surprised. I really like how easy they are to update and how easy and quick it is to move video recordings from the VTX. Video quality is amazing even from the lowest tier HD V2!
Also if you want to sell your stuff I’d be interested. I’ll get them working properly.
I'm pretty sure I have the same VTX, Avatar HD Pro 32gb , I changed mine to RHCP and getting more than 2.5kM , battery gets low have to turn around, I love this setup. Not sure if any of this would help
Two months ago Avatar module burned out after a few uses and 30 seconds of flying. They said to send it to China for repair, I sent it to them, in the end they said it is not repairable and there is no warranty because the warranty period is over (although they didn't say anything about it after I sent them the serial number of the device). They said they could give me a discount on a new unit, so I bought a new unit with a discount. The other day I started it up and it burned up after 30 seconds of flight, burning the ESC at the same time. I do not advise anyone to contact this company, the quality of equipment is low, as well as the quality of support.
It sounds like you know what your doing but if its stuck in 25MW I would make sure you have your MSP port correctly in betaflight. Also turn off the low power mode. Just my 2 cents. I have gave up on WS for now but I would love to see things improve over time. I am flying vista and V2 and have 0 issues. So from the sound of it from you and others I should keep flying what I have for now. THX for the real oppinion on the product.
Well that helps reaffirm my decision not to get Walksnail. I am switching to digital from Analogue this week and am waiting for my first batch of digital kit to arrive. On the advice of several friends I am switching to HDzero as it seems to be a better fit for my use. DJI is just ridiculously over priced even though it is good, Walksnail I've been told to avoid like the plague so HDzero it is. Now I have found your channel and seen your issues, I'm glad I made the decision I did! Thanks for making this video, it's helped me make peace with my choice.

Recently got the whole system with the Nano V3 Kit and no issues as of yet. I will say though, the patch antenna fit was not great and I really had to force it in there.
I have been dipping my toe in digital using walksnail. I also have been very disappointed so far. Analog is much better for me at this point. I'm still tinkering with walksnail on one quad, though.
Interesting. My V1 goggles & VTXs have been solid, my X goggles have p much become my normal use ones and have also been solid. I also have a set of Recons which get used as ridealong goggles. I do have the new heatsink for my X goggles but haven't gotten around to installing it yet. I do have the "official" goggles X patches on mine as well. No fitment issues. I did mount mine so that the antennas are connected to the top ports rather than the bottom ones as I get better range & penetration with a patch on the TX port. Concur that the included stubbies are not that good, I have a pair of the TrueRC ones which I swap back and forth from my V1 goggles.
36.42.4 firmware across the board. Kernel version.
The only VTX I've had an issue with was a V2 single antenna one which died in flight. I was lucky in that it was on a wing. My standard procedure for launching FPV fixed-wing craft is that I check for video then launch and climb out LOS. Once at a safe and unobstructed altitude I set the craft to loiter, put my goggles on and go fly. In this case the goggle DVR revealed that the VTX died shortly after I threw the plane into the air. Was it a power spike? Did something inside the craft physically short out? Don't know! I did report the failure to Caddx; they replaced the failed VTX for free.
My other 9 or 10 VTXs are a mixture of V1 dual antenna, V1-1S, V2 single antenna, V3-1S and V3 mini. Some have had easier lives than others... the ones in fixed wings look pristine while the ones in quads are all dusty AF and covered in tree bark & grass residue but all continue working well.
Hit me up if you decide to exit the ecosystem, I can always use more gear on the cheap :)
BTW I only use the 25 megabit setting. higher bitrates == less range & penetration. im not a "content creator" so IDGAF about recording quality... happy to trade that for distance.
LOL this is how I feel every few weeks. I've gone through 5 vtx's now. It works great at first, with trueRC antennas, and then after a couple of crashes I start losing range and the latency starts bouncing around. I found 2 things: the VTX antenna is garbage. I had 2 break internally on me now. Something breaks in there, it jiggles around, and its hard to notice. Range drops to shit. I've also had components simply fall off the board on my 1s vtx's. In 2 cases it happened to be the impedance matching network components for the antenna, so range went to shit. I suspect these things also overheat so easily that it damages the amplifier output and that kills your range. On my long range quad which I don't crash, I can go 5 miles with TrueRC patch antennas. My freestyle and whoops however just chew through vtx's. $100 for a crash basically with these boards
Never got my hands on digital fpv, but I even uploaded a video about it when these goggles came out. For me, this model is the expression of walksnail fear of hdzero's future. I'm just a brazilian wannabe/noob pilot, but intuitively and based on trends i've been perceiving, this goggles are the image of caddx despair. Thanks for the vid. Here in brazil a system like this costs 4 months of work, so it's always cool to get to know about experiences like yours. We do not get complaint content like this in brazilian portuguese.
Personally, I don't think Walksnail is the answer to HDzero, rather, the answer to DJI as a digital system. It's just not been a very smooth ride.
I think it's important to touch on problems with a company and a product, there are too many people out there shilling for a company or begging for sponsorships to make money.
I will always be honest. I will always only give my opinion on something I have used extensively and had time to really digest the product. Some people appreciate this and some people don't.

Damn I feel you!! I was gonna comment and say I’ve had great experience with the 1s vtx then I heard you mention it! I have 6 of them and just one gave trouble where it lost binding and I have to rebind every time I connect a battery, but the others have been rock solid! I never got anything other than the 1s. The newer one with the 500mw gets waaaay too hot and draws more power. Also I had a huge intuition about those goggles X having trouble so I held out as much as I wanted them and I’m SO damn glad I did!!! I have the dominator v1 and it’s the absolute best! I have a feeling they will get it right at some point but for now it’s just them throwing things out there and seeing what works
Other example, Im new to FPV and used the walksnail vTx v2 on my first quad. It works excellent. I have very stable image, framerate also very good for my range tests. Sorry to hear you have that problems.
Completely agree dude. I just recently got into this system (Goggles X and nano vtx/cams) after flying analog, Dji (vista/o3) and Hdzero.. and this system is more headache than it's worth I think. I am going to keep with it, in hopes of the current issues being ironed out. But if they aren't fixed by summer time, I will throw in the towel I think. No goggles should get this hot, regardless of firmware. I live in fucking Washington. It aint warm here this time of year, but these goggles get so hot that they go into thermal shutdown. Half the time my goggles don't even boot up. My biggest gripe has been the lack of consolidated information regarding updating firmware, or rolling back firmware. It would seem that there are all these little specific steps that are ONLY available in the darkest depths of the Walksnail Discord channel. Never mind Discord's search function being a god damn joke.. Things like files having to be renamed, or when to reset goggles OR Vtx OR reset all, what the fucking LED means when it's flashing vs when it's solid (flashing should mean updating, but several people say theirs are solid on update) etc etc etc. If the system just worked, then I would love it. All of the different sized air units and the fair pricing, along with Gyroflow integration, and onboard recording, low light, Vrx, are all such badass components to be supplying the fpv community with. But this system in its current state will drive newbs away, and waste a lot of time of seasoned veterans to fpv. I've been in fpv since 2017, so I have been around the block regarding doing updates and building. I hope they don't just continue to work on new products without getting all of this figured out.

Lately I've also flown the walksnail quad with my x-real glasses, and it's quite comfortable... (It just plugs into my walksnail goggles.. and I've been meaning to get the walksnail vrx just to shed some weight for that. It only does 1080p60 though).
The v2 goggles and the moonlight system just didn't seem worth the "upgrade" to me.

Put that new heatsink back on but trim off the excess metal off the front of it before putting it back on. The extra metal hanging off blocks the signal. Even on the stock cooler.

The stubbys that come with ws are trash make sure you swap those out for aftermarket if you havent already
My 1200$ setup is under lake Ontario cause of this shit. And i have the pro vtx combo with vrx. It would never go over 25mbps and would lag randomly. And before that another quad was lost with the 1s vtx. And on this 1200$ setup i had a BRAND NEW X3 that i didn’t even have a single video exported. Im honestly done with ws as well.

I've had similar issues with the v2 vtx single antenna. Got it repaired twice by caddx but still has issues, using it killed my camera. All other vtxs seem OK.

Honest in FPV?!? thank you sir!! Too much absolute crap getting promoted in our hobby. Analog or Vista for me. Latest versions of Betaflilter don't hold a tune consistently and are also buggy as hell, I've switched to Kiss Ultra and converted all my Betaflight boards to Quicksilver, which has been surprisingly good.
This is exactly why I didn't want to buy this crap even though it was suggested to me in a known FPV influencer discord as a complete noob.
There's already enough tinkering in the hobby without having to trick a $600 pair of goggles into working properly out of the box.
I have this googles, no issues. Range 1.5 miles no issues.

Yep... I hated DJI for being "evil", but it turns out that they're all "evil"... Caddex has really shown their colors, lately - hammering out new product before the fix their existing problems. They still haven't released a 30cm coax cable, for gosh sake!! Just more greedy chinese behavior - relying on community development, etc.

Mad's Tech's tear-down and cataloging the VTX's shitty power input stage did it for me - I'll be getting 03 asap.

Never had any of these issues. I also have DJI and haven't touched it since I got walksnail. I run the 1s VTXs on my micros and the V2 single antenna on my 5 inch quads. When you update you need to hit reset all settings. Then actually go through and set it all up.
I run 720p, high framerate, high bitrate, 3dnr set to mid.
Looks better than my vista's ever did. Has the same range and penetration as my vista's did. But way better latency. Have tons of friends who also use walksnail and love it. I get being frustrated but could be your settings. Could be you not hitting reset after updating. I use true RC antennas and rush cherry on my quads. Haven't missed DJI at all. Sucks you are having problems. But my guess is operator error. I mean no offense by that. It's not as idiot proof as DJI, it takes understanding the settings and process. It's an amazing alternative to DJI. But if you just want simple pretty picture. 03 is better for that. If you wsnt something that is better than a vista or vista replacement for all your stuff. Want tons of options in cams and VTXs. Walksnail is the way to go.
I also run VBAT power, and make sure my antenna connections are very secure as they are a weak point in the hard ware. But many crashes later it's still all working great.
One thing I didn’t mention is that I did do resets between upgrades, however I’m not the only one with this experience. I’m glad it works for you though!

This kind of thing is unacceptable, it's not like it's a cheap system, everything about this situation makes me feel that all the walksnail development and production has been super rushed. It's like half the features and half the hardware is just an afterthought. When I was building my digital rig last year, I looked at the walksnail stuff, but luckily I decided to go with dji v2 goggles and the o3. There were a couple annoying things like the fcc file hack and getting Betaflight osd to work with the o3, but in terms of problems that was it.
Especially with that issue you were talking about with the patch antenna, like come on thats an OEM part and they still manage to make it not fit their own product? How does that happen? I've got aftermarket patch and omni's from lumineer and it fits perfectly, and it is not even an OEM part.
I really don't like dji as a company and I would rather give my money to someone else, but walksnail seems even shadier than dji. Walksnail seems to have the issues of both digital and analog baked into one, and that is kind of a hard thing to sell. Honestly I think walksnail needs to take a step back and look at what makes the o3 system sell so well, it is reliable, it doesn't try to pack in a million features, but the things it does do it does really well.
If Walksnail does not simplify their products and make them reliable, they as a company will fail.
I’ve had the same shitty range and penetration problems. I have the dual true air mk2 and even with those the range is still not what I see others have on TH-cam with their walksnail systems or even from my friend’s walksnail setups. I love the feel of walksnail while flying but the range is so bad and untrustworthy that I don’t fly it nearly as much compared to my o3 setups. I wish I woulda went with hd zero as a second system instead of walksnail at the moment
Walksnails v2 single antenna VTX was a total flop from what I've read. Their firmware is literally a joke. Good news is the wifi wont burn out without an antenna being connected, but i would use the ufl wire left over still and strip the shielding back to about 12-13mm and call it a day, no need to mess with it again unless you are having range issues. Hdzero doesnt even run an antenna, just a ufl connector for their wifi. If i didnt love my 1s 3" so much, i would completely ditch Walksnail and run vistas.

You've got a really bad string of bad luck with the system man I can't blame you for being fired up.
I'm just gonna offer this. My experience with the vrx is that I don't ever go past 700mw 25mb 720p on my hdz goggle with them. I've flown long range with it at this setting and gotten damn near two miles out on the v1 version of the vtx. I do not use walksnail antennas at all I get my own and currently using cheapo flyfish rc stubbies on my vrx they are fantastic. Haven't done any bando bashing with the system just regular freestyle.. maybe try lower power settings see if that helps at all.. these hdsystems drop power levels once they get hot and those goggles are not a goog design frankly no cooling in that thing

Thankfully I only have the 1S and nano v3 VTXs so I haven’t had a vtx issue but I’m on my second set of goggles that now also don’t work.
They definitely are not willing to give refunds and it’s brutal.
Initially I was disappointed at how they took a month to ship my first order, then after waiting a month for my second vtx to ship I decided I would not migrate any more analogue aircraft to digital. I still run high spec analogue that comparatively gives excellent picture quality and huge range. The WS image is great, but I just feel like I can't trust it for long range, and I refuse to risk any more FW updates to accommodate future vtx purchases, I'll stick to my Phoenix/Rush Tank Solo combo's from here on.
I actually believe their transmitters have extremely fragile and highly stressed output PA, and even landing upside down with the antenna in the grass can kill the PA.

I just bought a pair of skyzone o4x pros to replace my WSX, and Ill just use the VRX when I need to.
I wont switch to analog as my primary, but when I want to whoop and/or WS.. I have those options now.
While the durability of WS hasnt been great for me, I've been pretty happy with the Dominator HDs and the WS system. Wish the repair system was in a better situation, but what're you gonna do 🤷♂️
I've never had any of these problems with the dominator HD or the Recon goggles or the VRX. these problems seem like a goggles X problem.
I've run my dominators with the walksnail brand stock stubby antennas out to over 4km. never had a problem with a VTx, they get hot on max power, don't overheat them.
never buy any FPV product within a year of release, even DJi are trash for the first year until the community fixes the problems. :/

oh man, that was depressing to hear, as I can not afford DJI 03, let alone to have multiple 03 units on multiple quads, Im not going to lower video quality and get HDZero or analog, but really, what are our options at this point? Sell our private information to the commies through DJI for good video quality on our drones, or take a chance on caddx. Seems like there is good and bad in whatever I decide to go with.....or keep flying LOS

Currently got 5 WS kwads and not a single problem. I assemble the 5 of them. How come all the problem goes to one usser and non for others? You should consider archery or something else.

goggles have a 2 year warranty, vtx has 1 year. Why can't you return them? If it's out of warranty then I'm not sure why you kept something that didn't work for over a year.
Warranty would just be a replacement. TBH I dont want the goggles anymore haha. I dont think the goggles are really even the root of the issues discussed here, it's mostly the VTXs and the firmware.
Send it back to WS and see if they can repair or replace it. Or get DJI V2. I'm staying with my V2 and affordable
I stayed away from caddix stuff, because it always looks like beta/unfinished stuff. Even their analog cams are bad quality with QA issues reported all the time.
… one thing I’ll say is that if I ever got into the walksnail ecosystem, I would probably go with the Fatshark Dominator HD googles. At least Fatshark knows how to build a good goggle.

i´m also pissed at the moment. i´m on vacation and thought it would be a good idea to have my Meteor 75 HD Pro walksnail Edition to fly in the city... the first day my googles worked ok, 8 Lipos, than it overheated, or what ever ... now its sometimes not starting, or it crashs right after the start. with a little bit of luck, i can fly one Lipo, every ~10 tries starting the google x...
glad that i use the O3 System in my bigger quads and they are also with me. Never had any issue with the DJI O3 have 8 of them, and all are fine.
So Walksnail / Caddx hopefully will do theire homework soon.
P.S. "the cable" of the moonlight system had me also started... bad design again ...

Walksnail constantly pushes out new and shiny products even if the FIRMWARE doesnt fullfills the needs of 99% of pilots since the v1 goggles and vtxes.
I bought the first version of the goggles and vtxes nearly when they came out with the intension to test a new and interesting product and to see how it develops. And i dont regret it to doday because i learned so much about this and other fpv products.
To name the Issues i have with this system:
- It seems caddx does put effort into listening to the consumer but sadly only on the hardware side of things.
- They couldnt fix the firmware to work decently with theyre supplied antennas till now (i use patches too)
- Its still smeary aka compression works terrible
- Why build the vtxes so they can accidently split in half smearing thermal paste all over the place?
- Why use shitty connectors for uart?
- why use shitty connectors for usb?? USB-C has been a thing since when???
- The fan is shit quality inside the goglles it started rattling in no time
- 1200mw still doesnt have any benefit compared to 700mw
Other than that... im pretty happy that caddx did anything. But for now its not reliable and i wouldnt dare to do any professional work or long-range with walksnail.
Ps.: I have that feeling with the lite vtx too. For me it performs much better in image quality and link than the big vtxes. Strange

but it cant be worst than DJI :) (good luck repairing one, like apple no right to repair, it's laggy out of the box ) you cannot trust them but as a plus its closed ecosystem and cost a ridiculous price
dji is cool as long as you'v been gifted the stuff.

If the wifi antenna is not connected the goggles won't boot up

I have the same thoughts about some of this hardware sometimes. Why are people making "X" stupid mistake, why not just "Y" instead? and it infuriates me because I'm sure people aren't stupid. But I have the hardware in my hands and I'm wondering, wtf were you thinking bro?
Mine works fine you must have a prototype. Mine is different as well. Came from DJI 03 and the quality DJI produces is absolute crap.
My system works great every since I had it V1 and the V2 my thing is I do not download or flash unstable firmware, nor do I reflash that often you know that old saying if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it I’m just saying
I almost bought the new goggles, I have the external vrx and it has been great BUT I’m not buying anything !more until they get there shit straight. They need to straighten up the firmware and some quality control. The bit with the antenna stuck to the removable panel is just dumb.

Weird. I have goggles x, patches fit fine. I also have quads with every single model of vtx except the bare bones 1s board and everything has worked fine. You need to see a shaman and get that bad mojo cleansed.
I would agree with the shaman part, if I was the only one. Seems you hit the walksnail lottery. :)
@DanoFPV The day after I typed that my camera failed on the v2 1s vtx and had it not been over grass when it did it would have probably destroyed my favorite 3". I was moving pretty quick and too far away to try to LOS it back to me. It was transmitting some data because as I move it around the colors change but it's just vertical line "static".

Firstly when i first saw the goggle x i was like that looks like a piece of shit compared to the v1.
There have been a lot of reports of the v2 vtx's being worse than v1 in range.
I wonder if the quality is also shitter.
I personally will probably just stick to two quads on the v1 vtx and goggles and run fw 31 which works great with really good range and focus new builds in hdzero.
At least hour goggle strap held up.
I replaced the OEM strap within 3 days of getting the X. The OEM strap was so bad they should of never included it.

Yep hdz was great, I just need more pene and range.. the hdz goggles are too heavy imo, and the vrx is capped at 60fps. I’ll def be watching hdz for the future tho
Sorry man I’m still doing anologe really not to interested in going to walksnail or DJI really done get much break up fly free style, it does piss me off they put up updates that don’t work ! It’s like I’m to the point where I have my drone working I never reconnect to beta flight again

I was going to go WS but I bought the Integra's on sale. I thought I made the wrong choice. Maybe not! They have been good with the 03 and Vista!

lol still on analog, i always wait to see what's fubared. and all i read is bs complaints from this to other issues. its too much money to just sling out for headaches . feel your pain but my analog still works fine for me. considered hdo but that too people seem to not be happy. and after watching cspan DJI may soon be outlawed for everyone. not looking good. these days you are the test subject

Sounds like you are stuck in 25mW power setting . Your sd card isn't the right kind or it broke or something . You might mW and bitrates or something mixed up . Or weak battery . On high piwer 1200 mW setting they use up batteries 40 times faster than 25 thousandths of a watt setting

@@DanoFPV you convinced me to stay away from that shit show! People shill ws hard too. I've broken a couple O3s but any other vtx would have done the same. One went in the gulf of mexico and the other sat on the roof of a bando for half the winter. The one that sat on the bando probably would have been fine if it hadn't already been abused so hard over the summer. I guess I'll stick with my v2s and 03. Maybe when o4 comes out the o3 air units will get cheaper. Nothing else seems close imo
I dont have any of this gear. Im hoping the kit quads with openipc will be good, its opensource but they are partnering with hardware makers now too.

Wow, you are certainly not whining at all. This is why I still fly analog. You have at least $2,000 + invested in just one portion of quad. These companies are going to put themselves out of business for just crap. Honestly I cannot afford to loose thousands on crap just for a hobby. I truly love FPV and I have to be careful so that I do not make these giant mistakes. Man I feel for you. Thanks soooo much for a honest well deserved rant. The truth is this is probably saving a whole bunch of people from going through a nightmare like you and just quitting all together. So many companies are running business like politicians are running the country. No one can put up with crap like that for too long. THANKS THANKS. go back to analog, push 2.5 watts, and start enjoying the hobby again.
