To me it looks like the pixel size is smaller rendering more definition. As far as dynamic range goes, it looks like the lens could be stopped down and exposure time is lengthened, enhancing fuller/greater depth of field.. When dealing with a foreground shot, when the area of interest is the foreground, the things in the background become a distraction. In this instance or example, the lens is opened up and the shutter speed is fast, capturing the area of interest in the foreground and blaring out the background. The selfie mode looks like some sort of software filter to soften the image. All of this is my uneducated guess however. D. J.
Good thing about my iPhone X used for only 600 but it was a $1200 phone my opinion it is definitely not worth the upgrade to the XS
agree, upgrading from X to XS is not worth it - it's even a stretch to upgrade from X to XS max! dude, if you got a used X for 600, that's a sweet deal!

Just turn auto hdr on. Go to settings then camera scroll down it’ll say auto hdr on. Thank you now your iPhone X is an XS

agree that most night pics look like crap, but that's almost all smartphones - there's only so much you could do with such small camera sensors.
I upgraded from the 6s Plus to the Xs Max and I notice a huge leap in performance. Nice comparison too, the X is still nice but if you are coming from a 6 and up the X s is the way to go.
I'm sure it's a huge leap from the 6s Plus - even though the 6s will probably go down as one of the greatest iphones ever made!

Good question - overall, it's the better camera, although the XS has made significant strides this year. But the amazing thing is, the pixel is able to outperform the iphone with one single camera on the back and no depth sensors - pretty impressive!
That difference is not worth 1000$
