Rick: ‘these little imperfections are affecting your game’
Me: plays with a scratched up muddy prov1 that I found whilst looking for my other ball in the trees
I sure as shit don’t have a good enough swing to tell the difference between balls
Me: proceeds to slice it further right than it goes forward and blame it on the paint on the ball
Rick: "I would have to change balls after 3 holes."
Me: I change balls after every 3 strokes when I run out of luck finding it in the woods.
At Wilson R&D: "Hey Phil did we change the dimple pattern this year?" Phil: "Yeah." "We could save money by not painting the balls and call them better." Phil: "Brilliant do it!"

I feel like, if anything, it might reduce very slight irregularities in the shape of the shot, but will certainly do nothing to help with a hook/slice because that is not determined by the ball so much
@@ToungeFish exactly, it’s not going to cure a slice/hook, but on a hit with a good swing path and a square club face it should have less deviation than a painted ball
I think it's going to affect drag and spin. Not so much draw or fade. As we all know that is affected by club face position at impact.
Perhaps a test with the 'swingless' driver would give a more consistent result and accuracy could be tested that way?

I have to admit, the dirty look for whatever reason was super cool to me. An unpainted golf ball is just insanely unique in my eyes. It’s like memories get imprinted in the ball as you play. I bought them and love them… I’m the odd duck though, they recently went out of production.
I really enjoyed these as well. Disappointed to see them go.
I just wanna say I found your channel right before CoVid hit and I think it’s probably the best golf channel I’ve ever come cross. Nothing but top notch content and your production value is awesome! A lot of shows on TH-cam feel like a guy at home with a handicam yours does not! Also your advice has taken me from barley able to hit a golf ball to low 90’s and hopefully soon the 80’s. I thought no new golf balls were made since the 90s since I find them in the woods so often.
This entire season I only bought one box of balls, lost about 60 and gained 100 ish. why buy balls when rich people buy them and then lose them for me to find :D
Haven’t bought balls in 2 years due to all the pro v1s I find on public courses that you shouldn’t really be finding any!

MATE! I Have been playing Wilson Staff 50 elite balls for this very reason since 2016! Highly recommended (it helps that the balls are incredibly affordable too)

@Timo Snwld Wilson has made quality products for years. They kinda got behind the 8 ball in golf when they seemed to go away a number of years ago. When they really came back to golf, their products did not seem to be made for better players. That gradually changed to where we are today.
They make good equipment, just don't have much advertising so you don't hear about it. That and they usually have a lower price point than the really big guys, which puts the thought of "lower price, must be worse" into some people's minds.

I’ve had a few matte balls like that and turns out I was able to loose them in the trees as easy as the glossy ones.
I like some of the matte colors, but not all of them. The unpainted thing makes sense, but I think the difference would be imperceptible to 99.9999% of golfers.
I have found the matte finish balls do not roll well on a slow green. My course usually has slow greens and a new glossy ball lowers my scores because I putt better.
Hey, I have always loved the Titleist Balata golf balls that were around when I first started playing. Looking forward to trying these new Wilson balls

Absolutely enjoy watching your videos, this is my first year of really playing golf. I can honestly say they've helped me out. So do you keep all the balls you cut, would be a cool video comparing the insides from one to another.

Polara is the only true straight flight golf balls on the market. There is a reason why they are banned from competition.
I don't think they are trying to fly straight on every shot. They are saying that it flies true. There are no imperfections to make it spin one way and turn even if you hit straight. No error on the golf balls part

@@austinlogan4247 they are saying that painted ball don’t always fly true because if there is more paint on them me side of the ball it will create drag and curve like a wiffel ball basically

Wilson balls like their clubs are often overlooked.
I play with Wilson balls now and find them very good.
Raw wouldn’t bother me being dirty, just give them a clean after every hole. But as you have noted there isn’t any tangible advantage so I would go the painted😁

Accuracy: Add accuracy sampling to your tests. Hit 12 ball at a par 3 and measure how close they come to the hole. Take out the Top and bottom numbers and show the average and standard deviation.
You have a very complete test. I like the addition of the hole in one challenge. A great way to add to the Rick Shiels ball test format.
1) Ball feel at the putter.
2) Durability
3) Cutter! Always fun.
4) Driver
5) Proposed 200 yard hole in one challenge. (Shows statistics)

You should do a collaboration with one of the other TH-cam scientists to try and come up with a machine/way to test golf balls the exact same way every single time! Love the content! Been a subscriber for a year or two! Keep it up man!
