    I actually climbed on stage off to the side
    of these guys and played air guitar at
    one of there shows in san francisco
    back in 1985. they allowed me to stand up there and rock with them. what a night
    God bless Danny Joe Brown along with
    Ronnie Van Zant who i saw perform on
    the 4th of july 1977 day on the green also
    in california my first concert. southern rock
    back in the day is the most hell raising
    kick ass rock ever created .

    Takes me back to the days when Jacksonville was the rock and roll capitol off the world. Skynyrd - Blackfoot - 38 special - Molly Hatchet - Johnny Van Zant band - I saw'em all playing in the bars around Jax, those were the days my friend.

  • @Grayghost8281
    @Grayghost8281 12 ปีที่แล้ว

    Damn Jacksonville, Fl was pumping out some hot bands in those days. Dave Hlubek was a mad man on the guitar.

  • @chrishutt66yt
    @chrishutt66yt 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    This was probably the best TV concert I ever saw back in the day! They just nailed it fierce! Danny Joe is the Growler of them all! Dave H. was just nuts on guitar! They were Skynyrd's Bad ass Bruiser cousins! They were "Hard" Rock almost Metal w/ southern boogie on the end! They were the only southern band besides Blackfoot to the famous Reading festival sharing the bill with Maiden, Saxon, Slade & Others! They could play with anybody & did! Probably the most heaviest & hardest of the 3 guitar army bands ever! Skynyrd & Outlaws are great but "Molly's Hatchet's" were nasty! No wonder everyone at the time thought they were dangerous! besides the "Frazzetta/Boris" barbarian album covers!
    musically they were! They were the Motorhead of southern rock!
    (Miss ya Lemmy! & Danny Joe & Duane! Now you can all drink & Jam 4 ever!

    "...just a little bit of that, CHOMP, CHOMP!" What a great song by a great band. Big ole Dave Hlubek does look like Chris Farley jumping around like he lives "in a van down by the river"...I doubt if Chris could have played guitar like that, though! Thanks for the upload, matseretan!!!

  • @rivermandan9
    @rivermandan9 16 ปีที่แล้ว

    You bet your sweet behind Jacksonville is Gator Country and southern rock heaven. Skynyrd - Hatchet - Blackfoot - 38 special and even the Allman brothers band formed in Jacksonville though the members are from Georgia. I saw'em all play in the bars around town. We'll never forget that era in Jax.

    With all due to respect to Leslie West - this cat is the most BAMF fat man guitarist in Rock - Roll history. This band transcends Southern Rock in big way. A Yankee I got a Southern Rock playlist only 2 deep (not including Joe Walsh) Leonard Skynard and Molly Hatchet. And not in that order. I don't know much if a damn thing about the south - but these cats are my definition of some good ole boys!!!!! The passion! The talent! Holly Shit they brought it!

    Thanks for posting this; great to see these live clips.
    I, too, seem to remember losing interest in Molly Hatchet when they switched off to another vocalist. DJB's voice had a certain grit to it that added character.
    My only complaint is that the tempo is slowed down so that it makes this performance sound sluggish. I don't expect live shows to sound just like the studio record, but more speed would have brought more energy. Just my two cents worth.

    'Jerseyboy38' - As far as his diabetes is concerned, the touring didn't affect is health, his excesses affected his health.
    You're right that record sales slipped because the change in singers, but sales also slipped because the band had gotten lazy in their song writing (that's a quote from Dave Hlubek to me a couple of months ago).

    Not hardly on the "sound stealing". Actually RVZ was Hatchet's first producer and was a fan of the band because they didn't sound like anyone else. As far as the insult, thank Banner because he wrote the lyrics. Dave wrote the music.

    Hey Mat How goes it? Dude I have looked high and low and still a no go.. But with that said. I plug my laptop into the big screen. Pretend i was back in 83. Now if i can just talk the manager at the HHGreg store to let me plug it into that 96 inch T.V on the sales floor. It would be like I was back in 1983. Well after closing time as i want to turn it up a lil bit. I told him it would be the best free HHGreg commercial ever made and for free. still hitting the counter button on all of them.

    The whistle is one of the reasons DJB was forced to leave the band by the record label. As the early '90's came on, the label felt that DJB's gruff voice and "truck stop whistle" were out of date. I liked DJB though.
