  • James O'Brien probes this caller on the logic behind his support for Israel's current Gaza tactics, as the IDF apologises for killing three hostages. While the caller attempts to argue that those responsible for 'war crimes' should be 'held accountable', James argues that this is not currently happening.

No other country facing comparable threats has ever undertaken such drastic measures. Otzma Yehudit, or “Jewish Power,” is, in fact, just the newest face of the old Kach party, the radical movement founded decades ago by the late Rabbi Meir Kahane, the most infamous Jewish extremist of the latter 20th century. Kahane was an American, born in Brooklyn. In fact, before he left for Israel in 1971, Kahane founded the Jewish Defense League (JDL), one of the most prolific U.S.-based terrorist groups of the 1970s and 1980s. The JDL may be the only indigenous U.S. terrorist group that successfully migrated abroad, fomenting instability, radicalization, and violence in its new host state

I’m a South African and I can attest to the fact that this war is worse than the apartheid I lived through. It’s the most disgusting form of humanity there is. Apartheid has always been lurking in so many corners of this planet and it pains me to say that this is just another example of the lie apartheid creates. There is no accountability from any side, from my experience even when this war is over there will be no one held accountable for these atrocities. Everyone will blame everyone. Even 29 years of our independence we still suffer amongst each other we fight for a freedom that might never be realized. The world does not change it only puts on a different mask. 😢

So thank you for the assistance. And so please allow me to return the favor. There is one occupier, namely; Israel one occupied, namely; the Palestinians. One oppressor and one oppressed people. Now, the sooner you understand this the better for those whom you're defending.

What was coming next was horrible -- I knew Israel would take this opportunity to ethnically cleanse its ghetto if not outright liquidate it. I knew there would be a reactionary backlash that rallied around Israel, and that any critics would be branded antisemites. I knew it would be ordinary Palestinians that would inordinately suffer and die. And I knew there was nothing that was going to change this outcome.
I don't know which is worse, the knowing or the being right.

What baffles me is that some people don't understand that every civilian killed, gives birth to new packs of 'terrorists', their children, their family members, neighbours etc. Why is that math so hard to fathom? Picture your own lives, if someone killed your innocent parents, brother, sister or anyone you cared deeply about, wouldn't you want to inflect the same pain back? The hate spreads, and understandably so. As vengeance breads vengeance, but justice trumps all. There are real problems in that region, but clearly indiscriminate killings is not the way as not only it breads more hatred within the region, but also around the world. Let's stop sleep walking into ending civilizations.

That is one group of people. Another group of people will blame hamas for bringing the war in gaza for no reason. Another will also blame Israel but they will see it is a mouse fighting a lion so it is time to let go. Another will be grateful to Israel because they don't like hamas. There is never one response from different human beings to an event. According to how things go before and after the war it is hard to say which group will be stronger.

It's about understanding there are factions, and all factions have bad faith ideologies. It's about being crystal clear and objective when identifying those bad faith ideologies within our own factions to have a chance at solving others. The trouble is that the population in that region are plagued with vengeance, and it's hard to reason with people who are possessed by vengeance. We need great leaders to step up and fight for humanity, as it seems "what is humane?" is under question these days.@@johnwinchesterp2963

I wonder if some of it with these people is they are "operating out of the old paradigm" - so to speak.
In other words they are still "living" in that world before all of the direct, nearly instant video, etc. was available - as you stated - when "plausable deniability" - of a sort - was still in effect.
I also think these people don't seem (don't want?) to fully understand is how small Gaza is. It is nearly impossible to separate Hamas from civilians & the indiscriminate bombing of everything/everybody - nearly 24/7 for 210 days now - guarantees civilian deaths. The Israeli govt knows it, the IDF knows it & Israeli citizens know it! This guy doesn't get it.
