Glad to see I'm not the only one with a serious case of 'Where Eagles Dare Disorder'! What a fantastic homage you have made. I enjoyed all 23 minutes of your film as one does a fine meal - extremely satisfying! I'm sharing it with my subscribers, as I'm sure many will enjoy it as much as me.
I am 62 in June 2024, saw the movie with my Dad back in the 70s, I savoured every moment of your incredible piece of work. Long live Where Eagles Dare! Thank you
I saw this movie with my father at the age of 10. I did not understand what I was seeing at the time, but the planning became clear as the movie progressed, for instance, planting the charges on the road to the airport. The combined effect of my father, the music, the actors, the action, the location, and the intelligence of the planning cast a magical spell on me as well. I have passed it to my children.
Hopefully many! I was approximately 8 years old when this film debuted. No, I did not see this in the theatre. However, it appeared on American television ("Movie of the Week", that sort of thing) very soon- within a year. One wonderful evening when I was supposed to be in bed, my parents (Dad specifically, of course) tuned in to "Eagles". I had already learned the art of clandestine television viewing and quietly found my usual spot at the end of the long bedroom hallway, looking past the kitchen and dining area into the living room. The television in the far corner of the room afforded me a perfect view of the screen, and kept me shielded from detection by my parents. I watched a lot of movies in that manner. What struck me even then was the length of the film. I was literally falling asleep on my feet but determined to watch it all. Like Mr Dugan I did not understand all that unfolded before me but enough to know the good guys from the bad guys and to marvel at the firefights and explosions. It was the start of a love affair similar to our host, David, that continues even now- like ni mo I am close to 60 years old.
I am 44 years old 2021 and have seen Where Eagles Dare about 30 times. I also love otherAlistair MacLean war movies and have seen most of them. I love Bear Island, Polar Station Zebra, Breakhurt Pass and many others. I would love to recommend The Eagle Has Landed. Michael Caine and Donald Sutherland are kings.
What an awesome tribute to one of my favourite films. I'm 52 and I have loved Where Eagles Dare since the mid eighties. Brilliant film & beautiful locations! 🤘🥰🤘
A hole is a hole is a hole... I have seen this movie close to 200 times and probably watch it a thousand times before I die. There is something about it that's magic
The old classics, like Where Eagles Dare, Guns of Navarone, just can something that newer action movies can't. As several highlight, in their comments "It's a man with a mission". It's unfortunately not something you see much of in recent films. But thanks to @David for the brilliant mini documentary.
This Where Eagles Dare homage is, firstly, by far the finest 'filming locations revisited' film I've seen anywhere - including on mainstream TV programmes. It's a beautiful piece about this man's obsessive quest and the production quality throughout is just superb. Now, I have to confess that the icing on the cake is that Where Eagles Dare was also, by far, THE favourite film of my childhood and teen years. It represents perfection in the genre on so many levels. Having recorded it from the BBC (no ads/commercials) I then watched it almost every Saturday evening for years. It became a ritual and my mother catered for weddings on these nights, so as an only child I'd subject my patient father to it again & again over a shared tea of 'boiled eggs with soldiers' (toast). I too have spent hours examining Google Maps & planning the eventual road trip, nay pilgrimage, I will make there. The other videos I saw before were done in summer but I feel only winter would suffice. It's fantastic to know someone else out there shared this same obsession with the film and everything it represented. I worked in the military with videographers and production, so have a small inkling of the kind of time and obsessive attention to detail it would require to capture all the stills, clips and drone footage... that's before even stitching it together into a final piece of this length yet so polished. My congratulations go out to you David.
I also share all your words of this film , my favourite since watching it in 68 ,my father was Austrian ,also in ww11 And often wondered how he coped back then, Some day will go to the castle, maybe.

@@davidskauen6146 Hi Ollie that makes the group swell as I also intend to do the pilgrimage. During late 60s and early 70s, I saw this film in the splendor of 70 mm, Cinema Scope, 35 mm , 16 mm and even 8 mm in a small theater in Hyderabad, India, consisting of only 44 seats. Such was my passion I rather chased the movie where ever and whenever it was screened. A total of 16 times in theatres and more than hundred times on TV after video CDs came. Now my daughter lives in Frankfurt, I sure am making this pilgrimage.
Fellow Norwegian here. This one hit close to home. For I too saw "Where Eagles Dare " ("Ørneredet" in Norwegiqn) on NRK TV as a child, and it left a permanent mark on me. Buying it on VHS and later DVD, watching it every christmas holiday as a tradition. Something about all the snow in the movie. A few years ago I visited Werfen and the castle. Seeing this video makes me want to go back - in the wintertime. A beautiful homage to a classic movie. Stunning filming and great soundtrack on this - just like the real movie.

I keep coming back to this movie every couple of years, and always discover some small new detail. I've scoured the internet for trivia and movie mistakes - I love that sort of stuff. The movie is timeless and upon watching it for the first time over 30 years ago, I still get nostalgic every time I sit down to watch it. Pure magic.
Im 64 now, and my late father took me to see this film on its cinema release in 1968, the cinematography of the original film is fanstastic, but its sad to see the original cable car now used as a storage area - thank you David for creating a modern day homage.
I saw this movie when it first came out, the first thing that struck me was the snare drum at the beginning it got louder and louder as each drum came in then, a big opening chords of the trombones. Made my hair on the back of my neck stand on end. A the movie was just the same. A fantastic film. Went to the castle in 2018, so that’s off my bucket list. I have video, DVD and a Blue Ray Special addition. Well done you for making this film, really enjoyed it. Ron Goodwin composed the music.
Outstanding! It's quite warming to know that there is a reasonably sized, and passionate fan base of this movie, younger generations are cheating themselves of a Standout Motion Picture, there aren't many around like this one!!!
This is very well done! Where Eagles Dare is one of my all time favorite war films. My dad took me and my brother to see it. I was 14 years old. I still remember the opening scenes and Ron Goodwins epic score, with the Junkers flight over the Alps. I have never forgotten it, and I still love this film.
I'm so glad there are other enthusiasts (excuse my understatement in your case) concerning "Where Eagles Dare" even half century later. I sincerely thought I was the only one watching it with evermore bliss, pure fascination and ongoing discovery that emerges every time I re-play this movie on Christmas Day. However, I could be the only individual that plays the opening soundtrack in my head, everytime I ride on a mountain cable car right before it is about to set-off, lol! Excellent job retracing this film's steps though time!!
I was obsessed with this movie as a child. I'm 61 years old. American from New Jersey. I was so obsessed it scared my mother. She stopped letting me watch it on network tv, but then backed down. I've owned this movies on VHS, DVD, Blu Ray and save streamed on various services. Don't understand my fascination. 50+ years since it's release and I still am comforted by it.
i’am 50 year old now and i still remember that evening many many years ago where i was only 7 years old and my big brother saw it late at night when my mother and little brothers lay and sleep. it was magic that movie is still my absolutly my favorite. maybe it also that my family have a resistance connection to the Nazies in Denmark in the forties. fantastic movie and equaly good was Ron Goodwyns music. it still gives goose bumps when i hear that theme. and a realy good video you have made here also.
I was 12 when the movie came out. If memory serves, my parents took my brothers & I to a Drive-In movie to see the film. My dad served in WW2, and this was one of ONLY 2 WW 2 movies he attended with us. (The other was "The Longest Day".) As such, Where Eagles Dare holds a special place in my heart. Thank you for sharing.
This is a movie from an era where it was not all about special effects, an era when there was time and no need to rush and it all comes together: actors, script, ambiance, locations, atmosphere, music, story, it just works to make a movie truly great. I had it on VHS as well, and I still play it on DVD regularly, with more then adequate audio to engulf you while watching. . A huge, huge compliment to you: this fan-documentary is extremely well done, an absolute joy to watch, thank you!
My brother and I reenacted this movie many times with our Lego toys in Nigeria in the early 80s- 80, 81, 82, 84. It is still our favorite movie today. Thanks to our dad (RIP). Good to know we weren't the only ones. I just decided to visit it on my next visit to Europe.
What a fantastic tribute! There is something special about seeing movie locations in real life... almost as if the actors are going to walk round the corner! I watched Where Eagles Dare again last night. Brilliant film!
Great Job, i was born in 68 and remember watching that movie with my older brother in the 70's, took me back to a good place of the innocence of my childhood.
This is so wonderful on so many levels and a passion realized by anyone who watches this. It’s people like you that bring color to the world and add depth to this film. Greatly appreciated!!!
Oh my goodness! It doesn't get any better than this. Thank you for your efforts and posting this amazing work. Finally - someone who shares my madness for this film. 👏👍
I just turned 60 and this movie has a similar hold on me. From Clint's unlimited mp40 magazines to the wonderful trip-wire demolition packs it had it all for a young boy's imagination! Well done sir.
This was an amazing video experience, 24 year old American here and I have watched the movie many times. I will probably make my family watch this video later.
A brilliant effort. Perhaps, this is the ALL TIME BEST movie of my life. I have watched it many times and still keep watching it. One of the greatest Hollywood films ever produced and perhaps the most difficult film about WWII.
The film is one of my top five films. I first saw it as a child many years ago and loved it ever since. I’ve forgotten how many times I’ve watched it. Love it.
Stunning job…fantastic video! Terry Mountain who appeared in the film as a (amongst other characters) German radio operator who is killed by Lt. Schaffer, recently did a cameo in a little film we made. He gave me a photo from the set of Where Eagles Dare showing cast & crew celebrating Liz Taylor’s birthday! He spoke very highly of his time on set.
I've just watched the film AGAIN, on the 9th April 2023 ! It's timeless, and to think that Clint / the chap who played the gestapo officer and the pilot are still alive !! Great video, I wish I would've discovered it earlier 🏴👍🏴
Love this film. It was a staple of British TV for years. I saw it as a 7 year old kid watching it with my cousin and our grandad, who pointed out all the ridiculousness as we warched it. Fun times.
I watch this movie once a year when we have our first snowstorm. I’m 60. I’ll obviously never outgrow this movie, and I know I’ve watched it more than any other movie I’ve ever seen. I truly enjoyed this! Thanks for making it!
WOW! My favourite film. Iv always been enchanted by it and indeed still am. Iv watched so many times it’s quite ridiculous. So many elements make up this film. The incredible actors and actresses The colour The light and shade of the film itself and the light and shade of the narrative. I could list many more! The film has a certain serenity about it which if you have the mind totally envelopes you and it won’t let you go. Congratulations on this simply superb video, it was simply wonderful and made me happy. I’m so sorry Mary was not in the barn waiting for you David! I’m not going to last another 50yrs but I have absolutely no doubt Where Eagles Dare WILL! First Class Sir.👍
Visited today, and it did not disappoint. I have watched this film hundreds of times and it is my all time favourite. At 56 a dream came true, pure magic.
I just turned 42 and I've lost count the number of times I've seen this movie after first watching it with my Grandfather. I recorded it on VHS in the early 90s during a Veteran's Day showing (commercials and all) and would watch it once or twice a week after school. I thought I loved this movie more than anyone else...until I watched this. From Texas, you have my admiration and appreciation.
Several years ago after watching W.E.D on a cold winters evening i went walking my dog, with crunchy ice/snow under foot I played the theme to this movie in my headphones and it felt so cool snow around, dark and the music made me smile and felt like saying “Broad sword calling Danny boy”. Thanks for this film great work.
Its still my fav I remember watching with my father as a small boy in the 80s, loved the scenery, the actors, the clandestine feel and the ultimate twist , They can't ever make a movie that can ever top it today
I saw this movie at the theaters in 1969 at the age of 9. It cemented my love of aviation with the opening scene of flying thru the mountains and that incredible musical score. I remember I felt pretty queezy about the pick ax going thru the guys arm on the cable car fight. It was pretty gruesome in my mind at the time,
Where Eagles Dare is also one of my favorite WW2 films; it has captured my attention since it first came out. David, you've done a fabulous job in your detective work as well as your fantastic cinematography and overall production values. Now, I feel like watching it again. Thank you.
That was really fun! Thank you. I was going to complement you on resisting the temptation to crawl out of the cable car to the roof, then saw you created the illusion at the end. Crazy, but entertaining.
Seriously David- what a well filmed, scripted video, really impressed, thankyou. By the way I can't get enough of Where Eagles Dare either- absolutle classic and we will never see its like again, especially Richard Burton ( Broadsword) calling HQ ( Danny Boy!) Stay well!
At almost 66 years old I clearly recall this film being my birthday treat in a Cinema at Cosham, England. My son and grandson have been introduced to this great film. A really great documentary, and yes, mission accomplished. Thank you.
My Dad took me to the Cinema to see this film, i was 7 years old. I hung out of the rear window of the car all the way home. Shooting imaginary soldiers. I have lost count of the number of times i have seen it. Even now as a 60 year old, i still love to watch it. What a pity the old cable car has ended up as a store room. I am sure if that went in an auction, it would surprise a few people. Thank you for you post. It put a smile on this 0ld boy...
Mindblowing movie, heartmoving revisitation. Saw the film in '69 or early'70, I was 13. Still feel the spine rattling on the cable car scenes... Great David !
Amazingly well done David. I am from Ireland, my father came home from work, had his dinner and took me to our local cinema that evening for the late viewing of Where Eagles Dare. It was 1969, I was seven years of age and felt very special to see such icy spectacular scenes on the big screen. I have lived in Munich for a lot of years now one hour from these amazing picturesque places. Every time I see this film I have such a warm feeling and remember my amazing father. Your obsession was excellently executed and I wish you every success in your art. Thank you for your perseverance and was so sad to see the chair storage cable car
Thank you David for this lovely video. You really managed to capture how hardcore WED fans perceive this iconic film. All the components in your video work perfectly together, the mixture of stunning winter shots, chilling vibe, and nostalgia is spot on. It makes me very emotional and also happy that there are people who feel it the same way. I believe your work really encapsulates how and why people still love this film. Tricky mission definitely acomplished.
Wow.. you did it all. Now I am homesick. Grew up their as a child, and just now.. 40years later I can see the full beauty. Fantastic job, keep rocking.
well done man , love the movie since i was just a kid when it come out, then one day in mid 1970's it was on TV at night, i watched whole movie alone since that saturday night no one was home just me alone looking after my little brother, That day is stuck in my mind as it was yesterday, I'm just 50 years older now 🙂 thank U for this lovely reconstruction scenery 🙂
I am a 65-y.o. Polish fan of Where Eagles Dare movie. Like many other oldboys here, I also must admit that I have never grown out of the passion for this film. Thank you, David, very much for this documentary, it's nice to know that there are enthusiasts of "WED" much younger than me. God bless you!
This is awesome! Thank you for making this tribute to one of the best movies ever made!! Hope to visit those same places as well, and hope this movie lives on as a legacy. I cant believe they are storing chairs in that carriage....that should be in a museum! Your efforts on making this will not go uncredited. I will share this video with all my friends and fans.
My God, how I relate to this video. The blue snow, the wind atmospherics even the sound of the train whistle! I thought I was the only person on Earth who got this movie. THANK YOU DAVID!
@@davidskauen6146 I must watch this movie about once every two months. I especially like the intro with graphics, sound track, the gasthaus scene and the exteriors of the castle of the eagles. when we built our house in North Carolina we named it 'Schloss Wilden Hirsch' in honor of both 'Zum Wilden Hirsch' and 'Schloss Adler.' There is one scene in the intro where the airplane glides between two mountain peaks and there is a radio tower briefly visible in the Valley between the peaks. I'd love to know the location of that valley. I've been to Austria and could not find the scene.
Thankyou so much DAVID for sharing , it was first word war 2 movie I watched with my dad its been 35 years been watching this movie every weekend I catchup with my dad... thanks again.. cheers
Brilliant ,just got back from Austria on holiday ,was at the castle less than 5 days ago , truly fantastic felt like a kid at 52 ,loved this and loved the castle , thankyou 👍
Bravo! Well done! I am also a WED freak! They started filming 28 days before I was born. I must have watched this movie over 100 times easily. And going to the locations is on my bucket list! Great job! Steve Wright!
This is really amazing ! I'm so happy to see there are also pasionate people (like me) about this movie. I've been to Hohenwerfen once but i'm going again (and for a longer time) this summer. You've did such a nice job!
And Hohenwerfen was recently used as location once again. In the Amazone Prime TV-series "Tha man in the high castle". But nothing will ever beat "Eagles"..;)
I asked my gf the other day to watch „where eagles dare“ with me, knowing it would be a big gamble (50 year old movie vs. 27 year old woman). She absolutely loved it and we ended up brainstorming about a remake for hours!
I saw this movie with my family in 1969 in NYC at a theater on Broadway. It was pure magic! Since then it has been one of my all time favorites and I too am afflicted with the lore of the film and its adventure.
Fantastically done👍👍👍.......Beautiful👏👍
Fab documentary. Where Eagles Dare? Can never stop watching it!
I know;) Thanks!
Thank you so much. Love this madness!
I just turned 60 and this movie has a similar hold on me. From Clint's unlimited mp40 magazines to the wonderful trip-wire demolition packs it had it all for a young boy's imagination! Well done sir.
I saw this in the summer of 1970 in Weston Super Mare. I was with my grandparents and I was 6 years old. I remember it like it was yesterday.
This was an amazing video experience, 24 year old American here and I have watched the movie many times. I will probably make my family watch this video later.
I think it is a work of art, it is beautiful escapism and I'm sure millions love it.
A brilliant effort. Perhaps, this is the ALL TIME BEST movie of my life. I have watched it many times and still keep watching it. One of the greatest Hollywood films ever produced and perhaps the most difficult film about WWII.
One of my all time favourite films . Thank you 🙏
Beautifully shot! Amazing mini documentary - loved it. The amount of time and effort you put into this is truly a work of art and devotion.
The film is one of my top five films. I first saw it as a child many years ago and loved it ever since. I’ve forgotten how many times I’ve watched it. Love it.
One of the best ww2 films ever made.
Probably THE best!
Without doubt THE best.
@@drubber007 yep!!!
@@drubber007 100%!
@@eddiethehead4791 It's got everything! Great actors, great sound track, great locations and a superb story. Next best for me is Guns of Navarone!
Ich war dabei im jänner 1968 und werde es nie vergessen
I am still shaking having viewed this masterpiece. Somewhat relieved to know that I am not alone. Danny boy has answered.
I've just watched the film AGAIN, on the 9th April 2023 ! It's timeless, and to think that Clint / the chap who played the gestapo officer and the pilot are still alive !! Great video, I wish I would've discovered it earlier 🏴👍🏴
Brilliant to one of my favourite movies I can watch it forever thanks Paul from england 🇬🇧
Love this film. It was a staple of British TV for years. I saw it as a 7 year old kid watching it with my cousin and our grandad, who pointed out all the ridiculousness as we warched it. Fun times.
Just exceptional. Has always been one of my top three war films and still avidly watch it every time. Thank you your tribute was truly exceptional.
Fantastic well done... was a pleasure to watch your pilgrimage to the site of this great & everlasting movie😊
The incredible actors and actresses
The colour
The light and shade of the film itself and the light and shade of the narrative.
I could list many more!
The film has a certain serenity about it which if you have the mind totally envelopes you
and it won’t let you go.
Thanks for your comment! It sounds very much like my own story with this movie. Glad you liked it!
Thank you.
I watched it over and over for years after recording it off the telly in the early 80s. Now, I wait for Christmas every year to watch it, a classic.
That was really fun! Thank you. I was going to complement you on resisting the temptation to crawl out of the cable car to the roof, then saw you created the illusion at the end. Crazy, but entertaining.
That’s just brilliant!! You deserve much more views on that given the popularity of the movie!
Fascinating , this movie hold's a special place to many. Thank you for your work.
How can a young boy not fall in love with this movie? This movie amongst a few others have been my "comfort food" all my life.
David- you are a LEGEND!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This is the best TH-cam content I've watched in ages. Absolutely love this film and are so jealous you were able to revisit the locations.
Great great classic movie, and Austria the most beautiful of countries, absolutely breathtaking scenery, I have just toured it this summer
Congratulations David on such an amazing journey covering my All Time Favourite Film . How the locations are virtually the same .
Wow.. you did it all. Now I am homesick. Grew up their as a child, and just now.. 40years later I can see the full beauty. Fantastic job, keep rocking.
Magic ... Thank you for this beautiful and nostalgic travel.
Brilliant. Thanks so much. Love the snow shoes
Well done! I too fell in love with this film as a teenager. Great to see these actual sites.
What a great video. Where Eagles Dare was complete hokum, but brilliantly done. In my top five films ever.
Amazing! I'm a huge fan of this film - and now your film too!
Very glad you enjoyed it! Thanks
well done man , love the movie since i was just a kid when it come out, then one day in mid 1970's it was on TV at night,
i watched whole movie alone since that saturday night no one was home just me alone looking after my little brother,
That day is stuck in my mind as it was yesterday, I'm just 50 years older now 🙂 thank U for this lovely reconstruction scenery 🙂
Very happy that you liked it! And great to hear that I´m not alone..hehehe;) Thank you.
Great movie. Incredible castle.
Amazing. Drone footage is spectacular, fantastic journey.
Thank you! Very nice to hear!
Agreed Linda - well done! David, was it difficult obtaining permission to use the drone?
You are an amazing filmmaker! Thank you so much for creating this gem!
Really appreciate that you liked it!
My God, how I relate to this video. The blue snow, the wind atmospherics even the sound of the train whistle! I thought I was the only person on Earth who got this movie. THANK YOU DAVID!
Very glad you liked it! Thank you!
Thankyou so much DAVID for sharing , it was first word war 2 movie I watched with my dad its been 35 years been watching this movie every weekend I catchup with my dad... thanks again.. cheers
Best movie tribute. Thank you for this.
Brilliant ,just got back from Austria on holiday ,was at the castle less than 5 days ago , truly fantastic felt like a kid at 52 ,loved this and loved the castle , thankyou 👍
Great work my friend. This is my all time favorite movie.
One of my favourite films introduced to me by my parents. Sounds like he used a little Vangelis music to this documentary too. Another of my faves 👌🏻
At the start the music sounds like Dave Brubeck take five
Bravo!
Thank you, Heinz! Nice to see that there are others who share the fascination. And it is such a breathtaking place and region.
And Hohenwerfen was recently used as location once again. In the Amazone Prime TV-series "Tha man in the high castle". But nothing will ever beat "Eagles"..;)
I would like to Pm you David, is this possible? Greetz Filip (aka Heinz)
I asked my gf the other day to watch „where eagles dare“ with me, knowing it would be a big gamble (50 year old movie vs. 27 year old woman). She absolutely loved it and we ended up brainstorming about a remake for hours!
@@mp1314 Remake!!!?? 😳
I saw this movie with my family in 1969 in NYC at a theater on Broadway. It was pure magic! Since then it has been one of my all time favorites and I too am afflicted with the lore of the film and its adventure. I often wonder if this kind of film could ever be done again and marvel at the fact it was made in the first place. For some reason this brilliant body of work really gets under your skin. Thanks for sharing your discoveries.
