    Yes... EXCELLENT review! Very well done comparing a huge range of sounds, from different guitars to smoldering fires and watch ticking! Thanks! This cemented my decision to go for a pair of these over two individual SM81s (which would probably sounds almost imperceptibly better...but cost twice as much! Thanks again!

    I would love to know how these compare to the WA-84 from Warm Audio, and the AKG C1000s - looking for drum overheads in a smallish mostly wood room, music a bit like The Jam, Sex Pistols, Green Day

    • @randyrektor
      @randyrektor  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Ahh I would love to try those out. I used the AKG C1000s a long time ago, but I haven't touched them in years.

  • @XmenPlayTheXbox

    Are these better/more worth it than the Shure SM57? I ask this because the SM57 are so popularly used that it makes me wonder if there’s something special about them that I’m unaware of

    • @randyrektor
      @randyrektor  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      They are definitely both great for their own things. By all means, I think everyone can do great things with either. SM57s are dynamic mics which are generally better on extremely loud sources. These microphones are small diaphragm condensers which by design have a more accurate response. Accurate doesn’t mean better always, sometimes we like the distortion (or colour) caused by different mics. Best advice I’ve got is try as many mics as you can, use your ears, and trust your own sensibility to find the best tool 🙌🏻

  • @amalgami

    how they will sound on a base flute? well, i am on a lookout for microphone for flute

    • @randyrektor
      @randyrektor  ปีที่แล้ว

      I imagine they'd be quite nice. I've never had the pleasure of recording bass flute, but I have recorded bass clarinet. I believe for that, we used a small diaphragm condenser, much like these. We placed it quite far from the instrument to capture the sound of the whole instrument, and it sounded really nice! I'd love to try recording bass flute!

      @@randyrektor thanks for ur reply. I have to record with max proximity, i travel so not in a treated environment. I am currently using SM58. But being a session musician on the go, where i record and send files, i should now get a better mic. Hunt is on. Thanks, subs

    • @randyrektor
      @randyrektor  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks so much for the sub. If you’re really in a pinch for travelling options, you should check out the Sennheiser Profile. Tom Buck has a video on it that’s really comprehensive. It’s a USB mic, which may be convenient for you, and the quality is actually stunning. Making me question the old “don’t use a usb mic” logic!

  • @BennyVibes
    @BennyVibes ปีที่แล้ว

    When I plug mine in I’m getting a low hiss and lots of electronic static. The room is treated and my other condenser mics (Townsend L22) Dont pick up the weird sounds even when turned to max.

    • @randyrektor
      @randyrektor  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Very strange! That wasn't my experience at all. Maybe a dumb question, but did you try any other cables? I know with my Peluso CEMC6 (Schoeps replicas), sometimes certain cables just don't cooperate well.

    • @BennyVibes
      @BennyVibes ปีที่แล้ว

      @@randyrektor not a dumb question at all. I did try with 3 brand new Mogani cables and different inputs into my x8. I recorded a track today to see if it was maybe something that you wouldn’t hear after recording but it was loud and clear in the acoustic guitar recording. I’m baffled. Also turned off all phones and wifi in the room.

    • @randyrektor
      @randyrektor  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Weird!! That’s so odd. I’m not sure if you saw the part where I covered the noise on them, but it was really minimal in my testing. Really comparable with other small diaphragms I’ve used before. I wonder if it’s worth messaging UA and seeing what they can do. It sounds defective maybe?

    • @BennyVibes
      @BennyVibes ปีที่แล้ว

      @@randyrektor thanks for the replies. When I wake tomorrow I’ll be doing some further testing so I have examples to send them. Hopefully it’s something I’m doing wrong

    • @BennyVibes
      @BennyVibes ปีที่แล้ว

      @@randyrektor I thought I'd update you on what I've found so far. Turns out other condenser microphones doesn't work in my studio and have the same issue as the SP-1s (huge white noise and static interference with little to no audio pickup). Yes some other condenser Mics like the Shure Beta 87A works amazing in the studio and sound delicious.
      The Sp-1s are still being tested but most of the tests have returned positive result for them being fine and working properly. I'm gald but now perplexed at what's going wrong in my studio.
      I've written to UA as well and it seems Ill need an expert in electrical stuff to jump in on my journey.
