You could spend hours watching tutorials of Sphere, and almost all of them seem to be in the favor of the Sphere, but then you find the most transparent comparison you could ever imagine exists just to find out that you are indeed caught up in the hype of paid you-tubers, and you are missing so much from the honest reviewers just like this one. I am so happy I've found this and made a down to earth decision that the most important thing is the ability to play the instrument, the performance, and then comes the room you record in, and just the last in this equation, it's the importance of equipment you use. Cheers to all and please make sure you are spending your time practicing your instrument and say less attention to this world driven by consumerism.

It could actually be a good comparison, and it is, but: if you place the mics on a horizontal plane even inches away from the original capsule of course it sounds very different, I know that the difference of some inches (specially on acoustic guitar) is big. For me all the originals sounded fuller than the sphere, but of cours if it is placed on a different distance to the center of the guitar,… sorry. But anyway nice playing & Studio ;)

I just replayed the same. Good point

it's a good point, although it' unfortunate limitation of the method for using the same performance with two mics. That said, I think it might've been more accurate to get the mics as close together as possible, instead of leaving the gap. Still a decent demo that communicates useful information

you are correct. And if you look, when the mic capsules are side-by-side, the original is always on the side of the bridge/guitar body, so it will always soud fuller as it's closer to the fuller sounding part of the instrument.

For what it’s worth commenting on audio fidelity on a compressed TH-cam video with cheap earbuds in, I think I prefer the original to the modeler in all of these clips, but it’s only ever 3-5% better, there’s a tremendous utility in this mic

pretty nice demo, I felt like the 87 and 800 were easier to guess, but the 47 and 251 were a toss-up.

Being a C800g fan it just sounded like the real one was more gathered in and the sound was concentrated a bit more but the tones are very similar.

One of the hardest things to model is the low end. Fractal Audio has been able to figure it out. I think the UA mics come very close, but they are slightly brighter than the originals. The originals are warmer which all comes down to the low end. Could this be fixed by EQ?

    • @tihomir7
      @tihomir7 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

that's because UA mic is more oriented to neck position and original more to the sound hole. You have to noticed that 🙂

I consistently preferred the originals. In general they all seemed a bit more "open" than the LX. But it is really not much of a difference. They are all almost indistinguishable.

Excellent comparison. With test 1) I thought that the U87 had a slightly bigger bottom than the LX, though overall they were very close. In test 2) I thought that the 251 had a bigger bottom and I preferred it slightly. With test 3) it was almost too close to call. I thought the LX sounded very similar to the real U47. It was hard for me to tell them apart. With test 4) It was again very close, but the C800G had a kind of "mojo" that the LX was lacking. In the end I thought all four emulations were great and would work well in a mix. You did a great job with this comparison. Thanks for posting it!

You sound like an expert but you missed that originals are few inches closer to body of the guitar and UA closer to neck. On acc guitar it makes a big difference, and of course that mic closer to body would be fuller

@@tihomir7 You're very kind to say I sound like an expert, which I'm not, I'm just a guy plays and listens to music. You made some excellent point in your comments and they're well-taken.

The Neumann Comparision is not close. The Sphere Sounds bigger. The Distance Parameter must be checked. The Telefunken comparision is closer. The next Telefunken was close too. I think the simulation is not accurate when there are tones with a lot of intensity and dynamic. The Sony Comparison was flawless. Sounded equal. But the itensitiy of the play was on one level, no dynamic range. At the end, i would go with the UA Sphere all day, because it sounds great and the simulation gets 90 -95 % of the original mics.

    • @Gearlounge

Somehow my ears are in favor of all A, instead of B (Sphere LX)... The B always sounds a bit lack of spark.
