Here is a tip to prevent getting an eye cramp from glassing with a spotting scope. Get an eyepatch with an elastic band from a pharmacy or drug store. Wear it on your non-glassing eye. It allows that eye to relax. When finished glassing wrap it up in the spotting scope cover. I have done this for decades. Try it out.
❤ Been hunting, packing, and eating southern Arizona deer since 1961. Worked hard for some , others almost fell in my lap. Did not draw a tag this year.
Randy bringing up the only doe season is youth in the Kaibab brings back memories for me. That is the season I took my first deer in almost 25 years ago. I haven't lived in AZ for over 20 years now. While I have enjoyed tremendous success hunting deer where I'm at now, I do miss the western style of hunting that I grew up with.
Hey Marcus, you rock! Don't care about Randy's occasional digs. Randy knows you rock and he truly appreciates you. I wish I could take 30 years off of my age. Good job gents! Cheers!
Great to hear you talk about the impact of the drought. I live in Tucson and have hunted those units down along the border for 30 years now. Its been more like a 20 year drought, the quail have completed moved out of some areas that used to be the best hunting around. I also believe there is a problem with over grazing but I am not trying to beat up the ranchers. Its also become dangerous just to be in the units along the border always pack a side arm.
I’ve heard some horror stories of hunters running into traffickers or illegals… have u had any issues? Steve Rinella and the meat eater guys ran into some cartel guys.
I drew a tag for coues or mule deer in Unit 26 in NM. I live in the ruidoso area and it was not a great rain year for us in 23' but not a straight drought. Anyone know how Hildalgo county did in 22 or 23?
Randy, YOU are my inspiration! I always look forward to your content. You and I are the same age. I live through you and other TH-cam content providers vicariously.
Congrats on a great buck! Also amazing job of packing everything edible out. There’s a Coues hunt on the Hushin channel where only thing that Eric took was the head and back straps. The carcass was clearly visible behind him as he packed the head out.
15 year old Daughter and I finally drew a tag after putting in for a few years. We had a hard time finding any Couse the first 2 days. I killed a legal spike buck on day 3. Then we saw deer almost everywhere we explored on foot. Got on a great buck on day 7 and just could not get my daughter inside her effective range of 200 yards. We were the only out of state hunters we met. Camped next to a great family. Can hardly wait to get drawn again. Mostt favorite hunt i have ever been on.
That's my story after the meat is put away & my stomach has food THEN WOW HOW SOON CAN I DO THIS AGAIN - no comment on language or my thoughts getting it packed back to camp GOOD JOB RANDY & MARCUS 😊
Really interested in getting a meat tarp like the one used in the video, could you share with me the brand? That would have helped a lot on my recent hunt. Congrats on the awesome coues Randy! Hope to one day hunt those same mountains and bag my own
adjusting tags should always be done by the biologists not the politicians as seems to be the case in some states. Looks like a good time with friends Randy.
The reason why tenderloins, or any cut really, is rubbery if cooked the day of the kill is the meat hasn’t completed to process of going into and out of rigor.
Bad management and predator pressure has as large if not larger impact on populations and fawn recruitment than drought does. 20 years ago you would rarely see a lion. Every year since they banned trapping we see more lions and fewer deer. Last year's hunt alone I glassed up 4 different mature lions in only 4 days of hunting. Didn't even see 4 bucks during the same hunt.
@@Fresh_Tracks I still manage to pack out a cow elk in two trips but it's getting harder and harder. Deer, antelope etc I can do one trip. Have you ever tried pack wheel? I'm thinking of getting one.
If Arizona can afford golf courses in its most arid places it can afford state funded conservation efforts from its local organizations and universities.
I'm a bigtime fan of Randy but the secret of more opportunities monologue was very wrong Sorry but we had good rain for two years plus The predation on fawns pronghorn specifically was not even mentioned and it is 80 percent or more 80s also has no social media making hunting population exploding not to mention how many more people live here now Hunted in 23 late Coues last year and was lucky to draw tag also so Xmas was special Did you see a lion? Minus lots of deer right there too

I live there and I was thinking the grass looks pretty good! It’s Arizona! My understanding is that the archery quota applies to residents as well, fwiw.

thanks for listening to the feedback and including the caliber and the bullet type again.
Redlined the goofy meter! Ha, I like that, congrats!

Great hunt & hike fellas. Always a fun show when you have Wade and your posse, Randy. Marcus is always a treat on your hunts.
Good job Randy, good job!

I’m sitting here munching on fresh Javelina jerky from two days ago as I’m watching this video… life is good!

Great Goofy Buck!
I love those old bucks! Nicely done. Did you get the tooth age results back from Matsons?
Waiting to get it back.

Hello Randy. Always enjoying your videos
If you don't mind asking, what caliber do you shoot?
Around the 17:15 mark, we show it is a 7mm-08 Nosler 140 grain AccuBond.
Wish we could get that calibre in Ireland
Hi Randy my name is Kalliope. My dad met you at the Sheep Show in Reno. Can you be hunting buddies with him?😃
That made me hungry
Wish you could have gotten footage of the lion
How much does your pack weigh and what is in it, if you don't mind my asking?
Probably 30 pounds. Lots of spare production gear, spotter, tripod, game bags, knives, water, first aid kit, some food.
The reason why tenderloins, or any cut really, is rubbery if cooked the day of the kill is the meat hasn’t completed to process of going into and out of rigor.
Next time you might wanna fry or toast your burritos in that yummy oil 🔥 marries the tortilla and it’s texture perfectly to the contents 😩
The word is Chimichanga 😊

Randy, I have a buddy that lion hunts Southern Arizona. Would you be willing to share in private, where you saw those lions?
Yup. Not sure how to reach you. Send and email here and I'll reply as soon as I get off the road - contact@RandyNewberg.com
@@Fresh_Tracks Thank you sir!
Lions don't worry me, now snakes are worrisome
I guess old age doesn't allow you to pack out the whole thing in one trip since you say you wouldn't be able to do it. Anyway good hunt.
Marcus and I got the entire thing out in one trip. No way I could have done the entire thing by myself.

Put your binos on a tripod, that will save your eyes. Randy looks old and slow.
Rifle sling??????????????
Great video but you guys need some serious help with rolling burritos.
That lion you ran into might have a lot to do with why you arent seeing as many deer.

Minus lots of deer right there too
And a super nice buck too congrats
You could have least got some fresh homemade tortillas down there instead of store bought crap
This is what climate change looks like people. Places on the margins are hit worse. Such a shame. Glad Randy at least got a gnarly buck
No this is what Geo engineering looks like
Crazy. 2023 it was dry, Ton of moisture this year. Its almost like climate naturally has ebbs and flows.
