    Good call keeping the back slick in a hooptie (patrol car) all day. Wearing gear on your back plays havoc on you over the years. Not wearing that kit on your back will help mitigate the damage. After 25 years on the job plus 14 in the Corps. My back if freaking jacked… I remember as a young copper seeing the veteranos limping around and complaining about their backs. I get it now!!!

  • @American_Veteran

    First I am Army originally supply (don't judge) but we were always used for everything under the sun. Convoys, patrols, counter IED, PPD, etc. I use the Mayflower APC with a D3CR chest rig, but same as you found the large has more room for gear. I did find the blue force micro trauma insert fits the rigs GP pouch just right. Same as you I keep the back slick except two sets of flex cuffs. During one deployment I was detainee transport and we only used flex cuffs just to make hand off easy. Our basic load is 7 mags for M4 and on PPD we would carry additionally 3 for M9.
    I did some changes to the vest:
    1. changed the cummerbund for a breeze combat with first spear tubes.
    2. Added a velcro zipper for the top admin pouch.
    3. added clips for a tactical taylor removable pack, for when I do have to preform foot patrols.

    Loving the setup! Quick question though, is there something holding the plate in place when you pull out your IFAK? I love the concept just wouldn’t want to worry about losing my plate. Awesome video!

    • @PreparedAirman
      @PreparedAirman  3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Technically no their is nothing holding it in but the pressure of your chest against the plate keeps it from falling out in my experience. Plus the velcro re attaches it's self when you pull out the ifak. Different plate carriers will very probably.

    It's nice seeing a no-frills video like yours, and presenting yourself with a plan yet not with a hammered 'performed' script. It feels much more natural and conversational. I do have a question though: do you run anything on your belt, or do you prefer to have it all on the carrier? I shifted some of my gear to a belt to get some weight off my shoulders and back onto my hips. This also indirectly freed enough space to I could clear the right of my carrier for an easier pistol draw. Downside of course is I have to put on two things instead of only one. Curious as to your thoughts!

    • @PreparedAirman
      @PreparedAirman  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I do run a blue alpha gear inner and outer belt depending on what my overall mission is. If I'm doing more vehicle based things I will ditch the belt and place everything on the vest but if I'm go back to doing on foot, SRT or deployment style ops I will run the belt to take the excess weight off my shoulders and on my hips.

    Thanks for the content. It seems like you have a very developed system. Is your unit purchasing most of this or do you have to pay out of pocket for your rig? What are most of your troops doing for their gear? Modifying it for their individual purpose or rocking what they were given because they are not gear junkies?

    • @PreparedAirman
      @PreparedAirman  3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Most is unit purchased but I will often buy my own gear to be more comfortable or efficient. I would say 30% of my coworkers will go out and buy better gear like myself but the other portion will not. They just run with the gear that's issued. It's not like it's a bad thing l, it's still effective. I just value my health and like to get high preforming and comfortable gear.

    How do you feel about the noise that a Velcro plate carrier makes? You think that us as prepared citizens should care about that as much as operators and LE in the field need to? I have my second Shellback banshee 2.0 and it wasn’t until a short on here made me question if the noise was a bad deal. I mean I keep it staged by the bed to close the left side of the cummerbund then drop the front panel down and I’m ready to rock. No noise really because I’m closing it but if I had to unvcro it, everyone in the house would hear the pull lol

    • @PreparedAirman
      @PreparedAirman  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Personally I don't mind velcro. I does ware out over time but so does any hard use gear. If noise is an issue you can always upgrade your carrier with quick detach plastic buckles. A couple companies make them.
