      @@michaelbenjmitchell1 I did my Basic Training (summer last year) with this current generation of gear, so I got used to it. Had no idea the bottom pocket was for the sleep system but it was useful information towards the end of my deployment this year. In Basic we closed off the bottom part of the ruck, kept it empty so everything was high and tight.

    • @michaelbenjmitchell1
      @michaelbenjmitchell1 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@jamesb.russell2942 Also another useful piece of info is that the buckles on the FLC are used in place of the zipper when used with plate carriers. But I also assembled both of my FLC's(Woodland and ACU) slightly different from US Army SOP. On the woodland Flick I did six 2 mag pockets and 4 grenade pockets. On the ACU I did 2 3 mag panels four 2 mag pockets two on each 3 mag panel with 4 grenade pockets with 2 in between both M4 2 mag pockets on both panels.

    • @jamesb.russell2942
      @jamesb.russell2942 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@michaelbenjmitchell1 In Basic my FLC was set up so you'd clip it from the back. In AIT it was in the front. When I bought my own (coyote brown, technically used by the USMC) is when I figured out that you can switch between the 2 configurations. For the deployment this year, we just got IOTV Gen 4s where we attached everything directly to it, stupidly didn't bring my personal FLC (and screw the ACU one issued to me by my NG unit, I hate mismatched camo). But we were issued the TAPS within the OCP rifleman's kit, which I never used since it was so much bulkier on the kit than direct attachment IMO.

    With most of my gear being MOLLE II, I figured there was a "MOLLE I but didn't think much about it beyond that. I guess that explains why some sustainment pouches you find surplus are 12" wide and 8 and 1/2 tall. All of mine are 12" wide and 11" tall ( I get them in double packs and wear them with some chest rigs when I don't feel like carrying a full ruck. I snap the tabs and fish paracord though the loops created and secure them to the crossed shoulder straps ). The main ruck looks way different than what I'm accustomed to seeing compared to Army surplus MOLLE II main rucks that have more webbing, the sleep system carrier is integrated into the main ruck as a zipper pocket, etc....... The "Flick" seems to have changed a bit as well. I usually pair a rifle with a vest set up for it and store them together. With a Flick, I stow the front buckles and straps for them, zip the vest up, and lift the inside velcro so that I can turn the belt to buckle in the back ( removing the strip that covers it there. This lets me keep all of my pouches attached to it, carry more by bridging across the zipper. I can slip it on and buckle it in the back, keeping it adjusted high enough so the rifle mags on't interfere with my pistol belt and pistol mags ). My gear is a mish-mash of Army, Marine, and foreign gear such as Russian ( me being mostly an AK guy ), Dutch, Finnish, etc.......This was very interesting to watch, thanks for posting it :)

      Go to a craft store and get 4 old school D rings. Weave them into the snap straps. This is better than the issue D rings, 2 straps = small pack, one for a sling pack, etc. You can still use the pouches as normal.

    This seems to be for the Molle II equipment.
    The original Molle LBV had a different waist belt that had a black rucksack frame attachment on it. They removed it because they hurt individuals and broke often.
    Also original Molle didn’t have a Waist Pack. 1st Gen Molle had a butt pack that was basically the same as the IIFS/ALICE version. It shares the same NSN as the Molle II Waist Pack.
    1st Gen Molle also had a single 30 round mag pouch. This was dropped as it proved to be a waste when a double 30 round mag pouch could fit in the same space.

      Never got to play with the new stuff when I was in. But I've managed to get a few pieces over the years, in woodland. Still searching for a patrol pack. The ruck is amazing, compared to the large ALICE. I've yet to find a civilian bag I prefer.

    • @ab5olut3zero95
      @ab5olut3zero95 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      It depends. I’ve done patrols with both ALICE and MOLLE systems. Either one is great when set up and worn correctly. MOLLE rucksacks have lots more padding in the shoulders, but are also much bulkier than ALICE and can hold more stuff. They also are plastic and lighter, but won’t take nearly the long-term beating aluminum framed ALICE rucks will. ALICE fits me personally better and rides better on a smaller frame like mine- I’m 5’7” with 44” chest n 34” waist. MOLLE ruck is more comfortable by itself, but does not breathe nearly as well and when you’re a sweat little guy like me, you want as much airflow as possible. Now, I use a MALICE ruck from TacTailor- pretty spendy but worth it IMO as you get the best of both worlds- the aluminum and breathing ALICE frame with the larger somewhat better layout of the MOLLE main pack. The MOLLE FLC is much improved over the ALICE LBE- much more real estate available to better spread out your load and is much easier to customize. Neither the LBE or FLC were designed to be worn with body armor, but both can be made to function if necessary.

    • @floydvaughn9666
      @floydvaughn9666 ปีที่แล้ว

      MOLLE and other chest type rigs are designed to work better in a vehicle including helicopters. Anyone who's ever had to sit on a bench or driver's seat for a couple of hours while wearing LC 2 gear knows about it. I've used an FLC and it's okay, but hard to get it low, which I like better. Also, the LC type butt packs hold almost as much as an assault pack and much better ventilated. I'm down South, so that's important. Really depends on your intended use for any system.
