    I like your video. very informative for allot of people. some things to add. trans torque management should be lowered too just like engine torque management. also there is a way to enable lean cruise in american cars. its very easy and can teach you if you want to know.

      Thanks! I've been meaning to follow up on this with some more basics, like disabling the MAF, VE tuning, etc etc. I should really get to it lol.

    I forget what i changed my AFR to but i went to like 14.2 or something since everything you get is really e10 i dont know that it made much of a difference but i feel better about it

    • @TheDrivewayEngineer
      @TheDrivewayEngineer  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, some people get really hung up one being exact with the E10 Stoich, for an N/A engine I don't stress it, I'm not trying for the ragged edge or anything. For N/A, in power enrich, I shoot for about 12:1, maybe 12.5.
      Since i don't have a wideband or a dyno, it's all guesswork anyway, so I like to leave some wiggle room.

    • @Good-Enuff-Garage
      @Good-Enuff-Garage 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I would really like to have a conversation with you about this as I favor 14.1 since I don't think we really get the gasoline mix at the pump that the 14.7 was based on, also there are summer and winter blends, as well as all the government additive regulations over the years where ethanol gets replaced or replaces some other oxidation product

    • @TheDrivewayEngineer
      @TheDrivewayEngineer  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      There is quite a bit of variation on what comes out of any pump, including the E85 one.
      If you have a flex content sensor you can see how much it moves after every fill up

    9:00 in video... I don't understand, what you say and what the comment in the software is don't seem to be the same thing. Did they write the wrong instructions in the software. It says, "under this RPM PE mode is delayed". I assume that means over that RPM it's not delayed? I think you say PE only works over the RPM setting.

  • @labalade77

    Very good explanation ! i have a question. I'm new on tuning with hptuner and don't understand spark timing versus Air mass. If i understand the more air mass the more the engine load so in your log we can see that
    at 4480RPM with 1g of air mass and TPS at 99%, the spark advance is 19°. If the engine load is on the top spark advance should be 38° ? could you explain me where i'm wrong ?
    thank you

    • @oddball0045
      @oddball0045 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It all depends what engine you're running and the OS the ECU is running.
      19 degrees might be late as hell on a small block chevy with piss poor cylinder heads but on a modern LS style engine 19 isnt far off depending on load. The more effecient an engine is the less total timming advance it needs.
      You can also have other spark tables throwing things off like if it decideds it wants to use the hot spark table instead of the cold spark table

    • @Good-Enuff-Garage
      @Good-Enuff-Garage 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      something that may help you with timing concepts is getting a gauge such as the Edge Insight CTS2 (expensive I know, but worth every penny) and drive around whilst observing timing advance in real time (among dozens of other parameters) you can compare to engine load by watching the intake manifold pressure etc.

      I'm sure you have this figured out by now. The injector data need to be changed for those injectors exactly. Your ecm thinks your injectors are smaller than they are . Your ecm thinks you have a cup but you have a 5 gallon bucket.

    I’ve got a 2001 8.1l that I’m trying to remove torque management and change up the VE table and timing tables a bit. I know I’ll have to do some data logging, and I was wondering if the OBDLink SX USB cable would work for live data logging in the vehicle. I know the OBDLink LX is supported in LS Droid, and I do have LS Droid, I’m just unsure which interface to get to make it easier.

  • @djzomb1

    in your oppinion are there any adverse effect from power enrichment being engaged for what looks like everyday driving... setting your pedal to 50% with an rpm at 2500... just wondering because im looking at my tuning files and the tuner left my PE Throttle/Pedal at 90%

    • @TheDrivewayEngineer
      @TheDrivewayEngineer  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Bear in mind this truck is a big block, and has 33" tires with a 5 speed auto.
      It only sees over 50% throttle at over 2500 when I'm pulling out, passing someone, or doing something otherwise aggressive.
      So I came to that conclusion by running a log all day while I drove it, I'd suggest doing the same for yours. You'll find the LS small blocks see more rpm and more pedal input more often.

      Air mass isn't necessarily load, but how much air is passing through. Another way to think of it is VE.
      If I'm going 45 and costing, my air mass will be much less than if I'm WOT and accelerating.
