An interesting twist on the classic. It just screams eat me. Your execution of skill set and materials gives plenty to think about from both newbies and ole timers like myself. The use of CDC as the hackle adds so much to the overall effectiveness of the nymph

Nice one Cheech! I've been using this "dubbing rope" technique for 50 years and have described it video comments dozens of times. This is the first time I've seen it mentioned in a video. Do ALL my dubbed flies like this. By selecting the material (soft or coarse), how much material is used, how much you double back the noodle and how tightly you wind it, you can easily control the taper, bugginess and segmentation of the body. You can even make variegated bodies by using contrasting material colors in the noodle. Dubbing Rope bodies are durable and don't need ribbing, if you do use a ribbing it won't get buried/hidden. Quick to do and easy to use. I don't know why this technique isn't used more often. Cheers!

Thanks for the video. A helpful hint is counter wrapping the lead wire. The backend of the wire now goes in the direction of the thread wraps and should the lead wire end be sticking up, its easy to wrap it down and a obtain a smoother body.

In a 16-18 it’s a good little black stone nymph for the winter and early spring.

14 wraps... I just got a fly tying kit from my son for Christmas. I have no idea what to try for my first fly but my closest shop is about 35 miles from me and sold out of almost everything.

Wolly bugger is a good one to start with. Also the walts worm is a good one. Simple and should have what you need. Maybe a hares ear or pheasant tail after that. If you get into it, you're going to buy a lot more feathers and stuff. It's my winter hobby. Luckily my dad taught me 30 years ago. Feather Emporium is good for hard to find stuff too. Good prices. Also ebay you can find good deals on people selling stuff. Lots of good stuff in youtube to help learn these days

... It takes practice. Don't get discouraged when it doesn't look like in the video. Fish hardly care in most places. I catch trout in flies that are falling apart. just a bead and some thread with a few random feathers still hanging on😂

@@joeg5414 I did a gold head black stone fly with white wings. Looks pretty good and I figure if I caan't use it on trout, my local panfish won't mind taking a swipe or 2 at it :) Looks almost store bought. Im pretty happy with it.

Really? What do you think 97% of every production fly company’s catalog is a every year? That’s right; variations. You should stick to an Adams on cat gut or take up something else besides FF. Based on your location, I’m hoping for the latter.
