A real sign of intelligence is the willingless of someone to be wrong about something and change their mind about it immediately when presented with logic and objective proof. I didn't even think it could be until I read this comment section, and hell. I can relate AF.
Lmao the amount of times I've been called "stubborn" because I didn't believe something someone told me blindly is ridiculous 😂😂😂
"You know you're wrong" *proceeds to show no evidence of how they are right* "but you won't say it because you can't stand to loose"

    • @vixxcelacea2778
      @vixxcelacea2778 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

Learning that you are wrong takes also trusting that someone else is right. Many people are paranoid and also suspect of people in positions of authority to say that they are right.
Being wrong in history both evolutionarily and culturally meant you were worthless, stupid and inferior.
This way of thinking does not encourage people to admit being wrong even when they realize they are wrong. It encourages them to double down.
Adages, as funny as they are, like what Carlin said, don't really help in the long run.
If it's already hard enough to change your mind because of crystalizing, culture makes it impossible. We don't think it's okay to be wrong, so people will deny, defend and excuse being so.

      Averages are a funny thing. If ten people take a test, and the results are 100, 95, 95, 90, 90, 85, 80, 80, 80, and 0
then nine of those people can accurately say they score above average (which is 79.5).
Likewise, since it's safe to assume there are more people in the world with one or no arms then there are 3 armed people, it would be accurate for any 2 armed person to claim they have an above average number of arms.
And all that being said... that does sound like something the average person would say.

I remembered when I was still back in my native born first country before coming to the US, there was once I was in the unforgettable conversation with a woman, a "friend" or "a colleague" if I should put her as is, I don't want to be rude to put her as stupid, but I do think she is.........she tiredlessly argue with me cordless phone are only cell phones! NO, cordless phone can also be cell phones and also landline phone. But, back then at least 25 years ago when landline phones were still used widespread, and cell phones or mobile phones were just at the start; people have two types and cordless phones were just started to put into use. At that time, I see cordless phones were both landline and cell phones or back then people call mobile phones. However, my colleague fiercefully argued with me just to shut my mouth so she could win the argument that cordless phones, to her opinion, was only used for mobile phones! I of course shut up, and she "convincingly" believed she won the argument!

Actually intelligent people usualy underestimate themselves
Because they view the world as they know less when it comes to knowledge
Its one of the imp qualities which lies within the intelligent minds
Therefore it makes them to be more curious
      Curiosity is another imp quality
And curiosity leads them to seek more knowledge
They know that they know very less thats why they seek knowledge

These persons live in a one dimensional world. And since they can only see one concept to them this is solid and of course they will do everything in their power to hold onto this concept and they never question it because to them there isn't anything there to question.
The intelligent person I call this a AWARE PERSON has the ability to look at the same subjects from different sides- exhamain it, question it and because this person can see more than one side -- come to realise that it is possible there is more to this subject what she/ he has seen so far has found out about and that is the reason for doubt.

A lot of times I would get people looking at me like I am intellectually challenged which is a bit frustrating when your goal is only to learn and better yourself. The more I knew about any subject, the more I would realise there was so much more to learn, yet I came across some fairly limited people in some subjects that would be way more confident that I will ever be. In all honesty my go to method in arguing with someone that I perceive as being ignorant or dumb is to just NEVER make any declarative statements. I love logic and reason and it's helped me so much in life so, instead, I'll choose to purpose questions where logic or reason is the primary method in answering them and see what I get from them in return. Usually, it's always a direct response attacking me with personal assumptions followed by an immediate block or announcing they don't need to spend any more time with me. I rarely if ever get a moment of victory but the actions I see them take can be interpreted as bowing out of the challenge and that's enough for me to avoid feeling insecure about my positions.

Even a "dumb" person could know everything about something. Like Johnny B. Goode, who never ever learned to read or write so well, but he could play the guitar just like ringing a bell. Or the local farmhand who's mind never wanders too far from cheap vodka and sausage, but damn he can take apart and rebuild a seized engine in a day. While totally wasted. And it works. I think what makes people really stupid is when they think they know everything about everything, and worse, are loud about it, and even much worse, try to make other people play by their rules.

@@TTFerdinandI actually say something similar from time to time, I usually end up being seen as a 'pretty clever guy' but I never agree on that.
It's true, I can be smart with numbers, remembering a lot of stuff, thinking, grammar, most stuff relating to my job (construction/electrician) or problem solving.
But it's equally true that I'm dumb at reading people, I know literally nothing regarding cars... Motorcycles, airplanes... Anything with transport really, I'm dumb at programming, easily forget 3/4th of what I need to get from a shop in less than 3 minutes, and daaamn I can be ignorant or lazy even if I certainly need to 'get my ass up'.
Am I 'intelligent' for knowing the exact prices of whatever take-away we get this evening? What if I tell you that I can... But ask me what color the car in front of me had for 10 mins & I assure you I can't answer that, so am I 'stupid' because of that?
I tend to say people have smarts and dumbs together, intelligent people might just 'use' their smarts more to their advantage making them look smarter

@@TTFerdinand I mean no, and no. It's impossible to actually learn everything about anything. When you use the term "everything" that means literally every possible thing there is to know about the object by definition.
Does the farm hand know everything the engineers knew about all the finite details of how that engine functions? Absolutely not. So how can he know everything about that engine? Even if you limit the scope to "everything about repairs of that engine" there are circumstances which the farm hand would deem the engine "beyond repair" and someone else would probably say otherwise.
But, smart vs dumb isn't about specific knowledge. It is more about (as the OP stated) how open you are to realize you don't know anything about anything..
If the farm hand knows the engine and thinks that since that's all he needs to know that he knows everything, than he is certainly dumb as hell. His brain isn't even capable of reaching out and asking "Is there more?"

I love to meet intelligent people! They’re so much more interesting to talk to. My two closest friends are both retired college professors, one a retired biophysics professor and the other a retired organic chemistry professor. My late husband was a mathematician and I’m a math geek myself, although my BA is in English. I discovered a love for math when I was in my forties. I’m now in my late seventies and I still study math every morning,
