Yeah I like that idea at the start, the sword changing shape to suit the current wielder. It's said to show itself to any Gryffindor in need, so why wouldn't it change itself to best suit them? That's why so many blade shapes exist in the first place, to be suited to person and purpose.

It also would explain why Harry in the movie has an almost cartoonish sword because of his imagination
For some reason I thought this was part of the Potterverse lore already, but then I remembered it's a long established feature of the Percy Jackson universe, a series that I also read in middleschool.
I think I blend a lot of those worlds together as a result of that.

It is known through history that treasures were often hidden under churches and saints were often entombed below too. Perhaps Godric lies with his sword below the church in Godrics Hollow?

@@Ellie_amanda Given the amount of wizards buried there it's likely that this church's congregation was made up of wizards and to wizards Gryffindor could very easily be view/treated like as a saint after he died. For that matter some Nobel's (which Gryffindor likely was) and famous author/poets where also buried this way as well. So Yeah he's most likely was buried in a crypt under the church or directly under alters floor as was common at the time.

Theory: I think Gryffindor did a magical bamboozal on the goblins. They made it too only repond to Gryffindor, but did not realize that his student are in his house, like house name, as in all the student in that house share the last name Gryffidor, his kin. Harry Potter of house Gryffidor. Goblins like to deal in technicalities, so they were forced to deal with it.

Isn’t the sword held in the headmasters office? If you refer to “The Princes Tale”, Snape pulls the sword from behind a portrait hiding place to give it to Harry in the Forest of Dean. I always felt that the headmasters office was actually where Gryffindor liver at the school because of the Griffin staircase.
In the books, it's just a gargoyle. Love the griffin in the movies, though.

Also, my theory on the Harry Potter Merlin: There's more than one Merlin, and the 10th century Merlin who is on the Chocolate Frog Card is named after the 6th century Merlin who helped King Arthur fight the Anglo-Saxons.
Muggles remember Merlin #1 for his part in the stories about King Arthur
Wizards remember Merlin #2 because Merlin #2 was more powerful and, idk...
Look, JK Rowling plays loose and fast with history. She has Hogwarts looking like a 16th century German castle even though it was built in pre-Norman Scotland. She puts Merlin hundreds of years *after* the first stories about Merlin were being told. She doesn't even acknowledge England has multiple distinct periods of history characterized by different groups taking over, she acts like everything was smooth and pre-ordained and the only conflict has ever been Muggles and Wizards. So this is the best explanation I got: Multiple wizards named Merlin, and two of them happened to get famous.
I think a simpler explanation:
It was intended as a story for kids and younger readers, whom would mostly neither know nor care about history, maybe at best an understanding of the more interesting parts. So she didn't care about putting in accurate historical data, including when Merlin was around.
To complicate matters, some of the information isn't actually stated in the books and was instead done simply for the movies, which could suggest some of these errors aren't even her but instead those working on the movies, namely producers, editors, set artists, and prop artists (I don't really care if those aren't proper position titles, you at least know what I mean).
Another thing to consider is that, being more myth than history, the stories of King Arthur and Merlin are hard to accurately pin down in history, with many historians believing them to be a mix of tales of several real historical figures mixed and exaggerated into one figure to make them seem even greater, though that's harder to prove and go with.

I always thought the castle has been updated and rebuilt, like medieval castles were in real life, so the school looking like 16th century german castle wouldn’t be such a plothole. I am sure jkr could come up with something like "there was a headmaster who was of german descent and loved the architecture" or "the headmaster x worked abroad before teaching and becoming headmaster" or maybe some story about some headmaster that visited durmstrang for triwizard tournament and was impressed by the style (durmstrang is in a germanic country and there were lots of germans in sweden, at a point 1/3 of stockholm’s population was german, so maybe german wizards built durmstrang in that style and Hogwarts ripped it off centuries after the building of the original castle

Hogwarts didn't do that, Quirrell did while he had Voldemort on the back of his head. Dementors were stationed at Hogwarts to protect the students, but there is also evidence that Albus didn't want them anywhere near his students, but the Ministry forced the Dementors for Harry's protection. Fluffy was there to protect the Sorcerer's Stone. Fluffy wasn't casually walking around biting kids, or was hiding and sneaking out to kill kids. I'll give you Blast-Ended Skrewts. Hagrid invented them and we saw how the kids were hurt. Luckily they all died before the end of the year. Dolores? Albus appointed her for the DADA position so Harry can see why he shouldn't trust the Ministry. But it's really important to point out Albus didn't want Dolores. She already has a history in the Wizarding world that Remus and "half-breeds" can tell you about. I don't think Albus was expecting her but he got stuck with her. She was evil herself but that's not the school's fault if a teacher is evil. Besides Snape, all other teachers are fair, instructional, sincere, and professional so you can't blame Hogwarts if one single teacher is bad. The DADA position is Cursed as we all know and Dolores doesn't come back. She had a bitter ending to her job, which we all loved.

The Moment J mentioned the Peverells, I noticed for the first time how similar it sounds to the Pevensies (Children from Narnia) because every time I think about the four founders of Hogwarts, this theory about them being the Pevesies comes into mind.
You can say about this theory what you want, but I love it. xD
And there are some similarities like Peter's/Godric's magical sword, Lucy's cordial and H. Hufflepuffs cup, Edmund/Slytherin being the one who stands out or thinks more realisticly (they made a Video about Slytherin being not the evil guy) and odd coincidence like, if I remember right, we only get to know how R. Ravenclaw (or was it only her daughter?) died and Susan is the only one who doesn't die with her siblings.
Yes, I know the Pevensies died (and lived in the wrong time) and had no magic, so they can't be the founders, but what if after they were resurrected in Aslan's country, Aslan send them back? This time with magical abilities because some magic from Narnia found its way to our world somehow after Narnia got destroyed. Like a resurrection that removed them from his Land. And since we know Earths time and Narnia time are not connected and its fantasy, it could be a MCU move and the magic "landed" in the past of our world and Aslans send the Pevensies from his Land to this time period on Earth so they could take care of it by being teachers to those who got affected by the magic.

Okay but The Magician's Nephew actually sort of gives credence to your theory. 1) Magic fruit taken from Aslan's Country and being planted in our world is how the wardrobe eventually came about. 2) Part of original method involved magical teleportation rings created in our world. 3) It has a realm called 'The Wood between Worlds' which enables one to travels to other worlds/dimensions. So like...even if Hogwarts is not 'Our World' or whatever, it still could be our world.
I haven't read the entire Narnia series, so I don't know how everything could fit, I don't even know if The Wood between Worlds is mentioned again, but your theory is valid and interesting and if JK Rowling the horrible person wasn't at least inspired by the rings when she came up with the idea of Portkey's I will eat the pages of my HP books.
Oh my gosh! I’ve never thought about it before but the Pevensie’s are EXACTLY like the Hogwarts Houses! Peter is Gryiffindor, Susan is Ravenclaw, Edmund’s Slytherin and Lucy’s Hufflepuff!! I can’t believe I’ve never noticed that before. I’m actually right now putting characters from other fandoms in Hogwarts houses. I need to do them next

Just to be clear I don't agree with her but, just because she has a different point of view from mine does not make her a horrible person. It especially does not make her any of things people are making her out to be. Off course this is my opinion and people will disagree and that is fine. I just think it is unnecessary how brutal people are treating her. It does not help and will only make things worse, people should instead try to educate her if they really feel so passionate about it.

Surprised that the Room of Requirement wasn't mentioned. Seems like there are lots of parallels between the two: how you access the room and how you get the sword, the idea that they both change to fit the needs of the person, and we also know that the room is where lots of things have been hidden/stored in hogwarts across the ages.

Imagine the number of Gryffindors that displayed true courage and summoned the sword, but they got it out of the hat and the hat was on their head, and no one ever knew because it knocked them out and either their enemy killed them or ran away and the Gryffindor just woke up with a concussion and no clue what just happened.

Here's a theory for you to tackle: Why does chocolate help you after you see a dementor?
Chocolate releases endorphins into your brain, which are the hormone that regulates happiness. Eating chocolate literally makes you feel happy.
Chocolate is sweet yet bitter, like the books, a wonderful story and good characters but with a bitter author and a lot of bad parts.
It is sweet but bitter to get on from depression, for even though it is lesser for now, it will never go away, and you'll always have scars

The decision to extratextually make Dumbledore gay but never act on it, _The Crimes of Grindelwald_ being very disappointing, and Rowling herself being transphobic. This is known as the ‘Death of the Author’ paradigm; the fanbase continues to love a franchise but relinquishes association with its creator.

My guess is that it might be because he doesn't try to use it?
You could potentially argue that the sword showed itself to Snape and allowed him to hold it knowing that it was its best chance at getting to Harry.
I think it’s cause he didn’t try to use it as a sword or weapon.
I believe that it returns to the Land of the Dead, to its master Godric. He sends it back to the World of the Living when he senses someone being brave/courageous.
That's based on nothing, and things cannot pass from death to life. Further, the sword can't die. It's an inanimate object.

Magic has laws, that's why it works as it does. That doesn't make it science. Science and magic are present throughout the universe, running parallel with each other.
A universal law between them is that matter cannot be created or destroyed. Conjuration turns energy into an object, vanishment turns matter into energy.
Conjured items aren't the real thing though, just representations of that thing. And magic cannot create life, so conjured and otherwise transfigured living things are not really alive, they are representations of those living things.

She never said Hermione was black. She said she could be black because it was never stayed otherwise (which isn't true, she was said to have a pale face (meaning the colour had drained from it, not just describing her skin colour), and Molly said she looked like a panda when she had a black eye. But she can be played by a black actor, that's a non-issue.
Cursed Child is the problem. New Time-Turners are annoying, but not a cardinal sin, but the trolley witch was horrendous, Harry hating pigeons is evil and not having a good relationship with Albus makes no sense, whatsoever, and the story doesn't even make sense within itself. Cedric wouldn't become a Death Eater, but even if he did, that wouldn't stop Snape dying. The events aren't connected.

This is a good one!! I always thought that it returned back to the portrait of Godric Gryffindor that was hanging in Hogwarts! It is said that he was rarely depicted without his sword and in the painting he has it...I just sorta thought it would like appear when summoned and then reappear back into his painting when it was no longer needed!! Like you could walk up to the painting and see if the sword was being used or not because if it was, in the painting the sword would be gone. Scabbard would be there, but empty....

Also, If Merlin was alive in the HP universe when the Arthur stories were first written, and therefore not alive when the Arthur stories took place, then maybe Merlin was a famous-ish wizard at the time whom the original writers of King Arthur wrote into the stories. It wouldn't be the first time that a real person was worked into a work of fiction
Especially Arthurian ledged it's so hard to figure out a canon narrative for it because it got fan-ficed (Galahad is a straight up Mary Sue inserted into the story to magically fix everything) a bunch of times by it's Chroniclers but Merlin is one of the few aspects that seems to have mange to both be there from the start and stayed largely consistent (except his ultimate fate that has a couple of options)
Maybe Merlins huge claim to fame is his ability to time walk without a time turner, thus changing history in arthurian times

awesome video, my interest piqued when you mentioned excalibur and i remembered something neat about it
in the legends where the sword in the stone (caliburn) and excalibur are not the same sword, caliburn is 'pulled from the stone' aka the earth and arthur later loses caliburn when in breaks in battle as its weak and he is then given excalibur 'pulled from the lake' by the lady of the lake.
a lot of people believe that excalibur was made from bog iron, which due to the wetlands it comes from has less impurities than other irons of the time, explaining why excalibur was better than other swords.
this of course is all wishy washy as its legend/myth and cannot be proven 👍
