Iowa seems to be reacting to their opponent instead of forcing the other team to react to them. Tennessee is showing what a team can do when they force their will on their opponent.
It's Jan's team with basically a new starting 5. Let them work it out. 9 and 2 is pretty good and the 2 losses were close even when they weren't playing great. Bringing Bluder back would be a bad decision. I'm sure she talks to her for advice .
The upperclassman inbounding the ball can't wait for her teammate to make a break to the ball, run out of real estate, stop, allow the defender to catch up, AND THEN THROW THE INBOUNDS PASS...typically right into a trap or a turnover. Our guards have to stop dribbling over to the sidelines, allowing themselves to be trapped. When a post player establishes position, you have to deliver the ball to them so that they can maintain their position. If they have to give up their position in order to chase a pass, then we've lost our advantage...and too often throw ourselves into a turnover. Stop playing hot potato with the ball at the end of the shot clock. We have capable scorers and we need everyone in the game to be offensive-minded, in addition to defensive-minded. It's great to see stifling defense, but we're not going to fill arenas or grow the game with defensive struggles. Let's start attacking offensively the way we do defensively...we sometimes have players with open shots who aren't even looking at the basket. Go Hawks!!!
Rather have an Iowa 9-2 than, eg, S.Carolina's padded stats with games like St. Francis (who?) 66 -9 at half-time. Too many of these ridiculous match-ups this season, by several teams.
Why doesn't Iowa press the other teams at times in order to keep them off balance and get the Iowa team the experience, so that they are ready when you need to use it.
Jan Jensen.....this suffocating full court press will continue to be employed by your opposition until teams can see that you have capable players who can break it. In my opinion, I don't see anyone with above average ball handling skills like Caitlin on this team. Therefore, teams will continue to use it. I blame staffing and not recruiting players with more skills than just shooting.
This is a young team (that lost most of their starters) with a new coach and they are 9 and 2, to me they seem to be doing ok. Are they playing the best at time, no. Are there things that need to work on (inbounding the ball being a big one), yes but did anyone really think they would be 9 and 2 at this point in the year? This could easily been a typical rebounding year with 4 of the starters gone and a bunch of freshmen coming in, but instead they look way better than expected. The freshmen are coming in and playing like they have more college experience than they have, the rebounds, defense are better than last year, the outside shooting (apart from what CC did) is better, and the parts are there. They need to work on the inbounding, get Addie back to scoring, bring the turnovers down. I know this will come off as blasphemy but in some ways they look better than the last two years. They are missing a high scorer like CC. Imagine CC with Lucy, Kylie, Addie, and Hannah as her other 4, and the tough freshmen as the bench.
Why are we running the ball handlers to the sideline on the press helping the defense so they can double teem us and pass with a purpose and Lucy smiles to much get more serious
She smiles so what ? The kid is having fun . The problem with Iowa is they do not have another consistent 15 to 20 point scorer to take the pressure off Olsen and steulke. Preferably a post player .
Last two years it was CC complains and doesn't smile enough. At no point does it look like Lucy isn't taking ut serious. Looks like she's having fun while trying to win. She smiles, I'm not a smiler people are different.
@@strikeeaglesquadron7775 I agree; If Steulke or Olsen are not performing, who else can you rely on? I blame the coaching staff for recruiting subpar players with limited athleticism and skills. You have a generational talent who has aggregated a huge fanbase but the school turns around and recruits below average players.

Maybe I've missed it. Has anyone seen our Michigan State postgame presser?
Coach Bluder Is a huge asset that must be
approached by Jan . Use what you have . The talent is there and the hustle is also.

What part of my opinion states she is asking her back ? A sit down conversation over a meal or two could
be all it takes .

Lucy is super serious and a great player! Her demeanor is perfect for this team. Lucky she's a Hawkeye!!!
