Thank you for sharing the most inspirational story of this year’s race. The ‘Slow Boat’ has been compulsive watching for many of us, eclipsing the rest of the race! ❤
Ditto...Pip is amazing and has managed with her tenacity and can do attitude to make something so special on her journey to Melbourne. Pip you are incredible!
Total agreement , this year the race is annoying , too much guided by electronics informations , no real surprises . I think , the next one in 4 years will be managed and following all the AI instructions and automatic driving. Sailors will be there to change and repair the sails and materials .
I think you just set a new world record: Having the most viewers while sailing under jury rig. …and winning the hearts of 110% of all viewers. THANK YOU PIP, YOU ARE LEGEND! Warmest regards and happy moments in Melbourne!!!
Pip, you are my hero for 2024. You were so distraught when that mast came down, I almost cried with you. The way you picked yourself up and made the best of your situation has taught me a lot. I am very thankful I was able to take part in your journey. I wish you all the best best for the future. Warm Regards Stefan from Haiger, Germany
I'm confused ! I just looked out into Port Phillip bay from our balcony and noticed a big bright orange something connected to a boat - out along the shipping channel . At a distance it could have been a boat in trouble letting go a flare , so I grabbed the binoculars , and to my amazement it is a jury -rigged yacht with an orange foresail and a black tri-sail ! It can only be Pip ! She has just rounded the Hovell Light in the South Channel and is headed north to Melbourne with support vessel close by . She only has about 38 miles to go on a pretty calm bay .It's just after 10.30 am. on the morning of the 28th Dec What a journey . Congratulations Pip - epic .
Pip, you are sooooo close, and seeing a ship in the background gives comfort that you're no longer out there alone. This has been an incredible journey, and I'd like to give you heartfelt thanks that you've included us all in your journey. You may not have achieved your dream of completing the 2024 Vondee, but I think you've achieved more through your slow boat journey than you ever would have by completing the Vondee. You're a legend, and I don't believe the challenges in front of you are anything compared to the challenges you've faced over the last few days. Kia kaha.
The Slow boat to Melbourne has taken priority over the Vendée Globe for me - am so glad you’re almost there. All the best and here’s to your next race! 😊
"After disaster, stand up, sort yourself out and make the situation better every day." That line will stay with me forever. Thank you for being so inspirational. You are one of the winners this Vendee Globe, especially of the hearts of many sailors world wide.
Dear Pip I Here by acknowledge you to be the Sailor of the year for 2024 for all the contributions, resolve and excitements you shared with us. Thank you, very much and best wishes, for the year ahead!
Go Pip go . . . you are going to win this one. lol You are such an inspiration. It was a pleasure to crew with you on the Slow Boat over the last couple of days. God bless.
Pip, As legends go, you are the real deal. There can't be many people who have sailed 800 nautical miles from the Southern Ocean to Australia under a jury rig - and shared your journey with daily Slow Boat updates. Whilst you lost the chance to finish this Vendee Globe Race, what you have achieved instead is worldwide acclaim for your resourcefulness, dogged determination, seamanship and humour in such a dire situation. You are an inspiration to us all.
Pip, you are such an inspiration. It's strange how positivity after misadventure is so much more appealing and inspirational than a trouble-free voyage. Yours will be the story all will remember, you deserve to have those multi-millions behind you next time. Sponsors will be queuing up to have your name associated with their brands. Thank you for your amazing example to us all.
To see another human, capable of tears & temper, calmly set a jury rig & bring her boat back to port from the Southern Ocean, soothes fear & educates in lesser sailors. So thanks to your newest fan.
I'm sure I'm not alone in having a huge sense of relief that you are close to Melbourne. But at the same time time, a sense of separation anxiety. Those of us who have been following you will have a sense of loss. It has been amazing. Wish you could continue with more of your wonderful posts! Thank you so much. It has been amazing and you really are an extraordinary person.
I do not know you and you do not know me but I cannot say how much I admire you and not just your determination but also your personality and how on occasion you let the mask slip. My late Father was on a modest scale an amateur yachts man (he was in the 'lumpy' Fastnet Race as he called it). He had a saying 'that if you fall over the side there is no point in swimming half way to shore.' I know what he meant is as you describe your journey that this is just an episode and much like Kiplings poem 'If.' I did not know of your book and will give to self as a late present. Safe sailing.
I had friends in that 1979 lumpy Fastnet Race, they all came home but only just, and forever changed. Your father was a hero too to have survived. Thank goodness technology and communications have improved as much as they have (I started with sextant because GPS didn't exist) .
Thank you so much for all the episodes - they’ve been incredibly helpful and exciting! Your strength, openness, and willingness to share your feelings in navigating such challenging situations have been truly inspiring. To me, as someone who has never sailed before - a German teacher and psychologist far from any ocean, someone who is already terrified of being on a boat during a thunderstorm on a lake, such a situation would be pure horror and more comparable to books like Life of Pi - but you turned it into a true adventure. Through your stories, I’ve learned so much about sailing and even more about life. Thank you for sharing your journey with us! I keep my fingers crossed for you for the Vendée Globe 2028 and I’ll definitely remain a fan!
Hi Pip, you have been so inspirational giving us your "Slow Boat To Melbourne" it has brought tears to our eyes every time we catch your latest episode. Thank you
I followed you from the start of the race. From the very first stages I was struck by how you kept going, always on the attack keeping pace with the strongest, the almost mast races with Attanasio and Dutreux. Then, since you dismasted, the race has taken a back seat for me. Every 4 hours I waited for the tracker updates to follow your progress and I eagerly awaited the reports from the slow boat. You are a really nice person. I am happy and grateful to have been able to meet you. Thank you
Hey Pip, I am a 40+ years old Romanian boy, that grew up in the mountains, reading about sailing. Since I've moved to the UK and started sailing, you have been my inspiration. Never give up, never surrender, you got this! :)
Thank you Pip - I hope you are recommended for a medal for this epic drama. Most men would not have coped as you have and from the devastation of dismasting to your resourcefulness to find a solution, you are indeed an inspiration to today's budding go getters. Enjoy the hour shower - thoroughly deserved.
"Pip, knowing the Aussies, I’m sure you will receive a historic welcome in Melbourne! 🥳 To me, you are this year's Vendée Globe hero! I have no doubt that securing sponsors for your next Vendée will be a breeze after this incredible journey. I can't wait to see the celebration upon your arrival!"🥰🌊🫶
Pip Hare - THE HERO of the VG 2024! Thanks for sharing your journey. If someone is this much dedicated and works that hard, this person will inevitably get a second chance. All the best for you Pip. Every sponsor should be eager to help out such a heroic women and project.
Thank you for sharing your Slow Boat to Melbourne adventure Pip! You’re an absolute star 🌟 & an inspiration & I wish you all the very best for the future. ✨🙏✨
Thank you too. Your " fight at sea " and how you have organized and have managed the path through the waves and towards Melbourne has been an example to follow even in a life on earth .
Such an incredible journey. Pip you are such an inspiration. How can we support your next steps? If there are journalists following, please do make sure this story is in the news and gets more attention. Currently except Telegraph I only find this in the sailing community. This amazing sailor must be known by far more people worldwide.
Thank You for sharing this amazing race - it is more than motivating. If You need volunteer hands-heads from Hungary just give a sing. All the Best and thank You!
For me you are the true real heroine of this race! Racing around the world on well-filled coffers is one thing. Dealing with adversity in such an honest and inspiring way as you did is completely different and requiring a much different person and you deserve all our admiration! 😊❤
I watch, listen and learn... not as a sailor as that is not in my heritage or experience, but as a person, a human being taking on such a vast world. I have been so awed and inspired by what you have accomplished, by your attitude, your toughness, resilience and your smile. Thank you for sharing these times and the ways of seeing it through. And good luck in the next Vendée Globe! You will have so many followers, so many people who will care and be there with you.
If Shackleton were here I think he would not be surprised, but would definitely be your biggest fan and supporter. The rest of the VG is anticlimax, although still exciting. Thank you for your inspiration and, most of all, for coming through safely. You're the best!
It was me who noticed the dolphin! This exchange from the other side of the planet (I'm in France) is so funny :D . I hope I'll have as much resilience as you and determination when I'll ride my slow bike from London to Edinburgh and back ! in August 2025. You are truly an inspiration. And rest assured, you are still at the top of the mountain! It's just a little slip ! Take the time to get back on your feet and look forward to seeing you again over the seas !
Bravo Lady Pip ! You're the demonstration of real sailwomanship ! Thanks for sharing it with the entire world... Hope to meet you some day. Cécile from Paris.
« A slow boat to Melbourne » sounds like an enlightening journey for me, so emotional, thank you I will miss your daily reports full of energy and I admire you a lot 🙏🏻
what a great story. I have been following the slowboat, as I am im in awe of the way that you picked yourself up from a bad situation. Truly inspirational. well done. You are a winner in my book.
Thank you for the slow boat videos. Seeing you come to terms with it and moving forward. So glad you aren't giving up! I just want to give you a massive hug! Hope to finally meet you Tuesday nights next spring
I'm so very pleased to know that you're almost there but - I'm gonna miss you! Thank you for being such an inspiration. Your emotional rollercoaster Vendee story will be told for a long time. It's been a pleasure following and I just want to see you step on land now.
Pip: You are our Championess for the millions who are seeing your daily reports. Best of luck for your prompt arrival to Melbourne and we are sure 100% you will return stronger for the next RTW race , God Bless you Always.🍀🍀🍀🍀🍀🍀🍀
In my book you’ve done the hard part, rescuing yourself and what remained of your boat and sailing it back to land from the southern ocean. No small feet Pip.👏👏 wishing you great success onwards.
You are so easy to support Pip. No matter what you seem to face you manage to do it with a smile 😃 So glad to hear you will have support which is vital. 🙏🏼
Really wanted to give you a hug at the end of that, Pip. So here's a virtual one! Thank you for making us more positive to, just by watching you being so positive.
It was incredible to see how you handled the difficult situation. Inspiring and incredibly valuable on a human level. Thank you for sharing this time. Wishing you all the best and a wonderful time in Australia. I will definitely continue to follow your journey with interest.
Pip, your updates have been amazing. You are an inspiration. I will be following your 'journey' wherever that takes you and I wish you every success. Take care. Yes, I will be reading your book! Take care.
It takes a special type of person to venture out where no man goes, and conquer all your fears, well done you. just the solitude alone is too much for some, another great achievement in your life, and being there with you so to speak gave us a small taste of what it was like . thank you .
Pip you're such an inspiration! I know it's been really unfortunate that you dismasted but this experience has really showed the world (and me!) what an amazing person you are! Thank you for all you've done and for the absolute inspiration you've been!
Awesome achievement to get where you are and so glad to hear the outright determination from you for the next Vendée Globe. Enjoy your last few hours at sea in this chapter.
Yay! There's so little left! I'm so happy you're arriving and looking for the future! But what you did deserves many awards! Thanks again, from the south of Brazil!
Good morning Pip. A very emotional update. Thank you. You are an absolute inspiration. Glad to hear you are being met soon to be escorted through "the heads". I'm sure the entire sailing community of Melbourne is looking forward to your safe arrival. I hope to be on the water.
I (we) have enjoyed this adventure as much as following you around the world. You are going to be one busy lady very soon but please, please keep us informed on here with all the updates. Gonna miss “slow boat”.
You are definitely the champion of this race for many reasons!!! Is not just to arrive in 1st place, it is more important how you do your race, and yours one was/is definitely the most exciting, inspirational, and resilient storie of this VendeGlobe edition!! ❤❤❤
Please continue to share every day on your journey of repairing the boat and getting it back to England. I look forward to watching these videos every day since your dismasting. So inspirational to this old sailor.
you did an amazing job after the breakdown....you are a credit to the sport and sailing in general. Your videos ma in fact save someone who might experience the same breakdown as you did ....Deep breath....think positively....
You are an inspiration Pip. We have just watched you from Point Lonsdale come through the heads . Well done and thanks for taking us on the slow boat journey. Steve
You are amazing Pip, I have to thank you for this honest recap. It's good to know that you are not ready to quit sailing the Vendee Globe. Have a safe last day to Melbourne. All the best for you and your Team!
Like everybody else I am in awe of you Pip...for me the Vendee globe has been just fantastically exciting, enthralling and compulsive but, although you will not agree, your misfortune and subsequent journey (for once 'journey' used correctly) has been the icing on the cake. I have loved your resilience, your steadfastness and inspirational qualities you exude from every pore. Thank you, thank you, thank you for showing us mortals what can be achieved with guts and determination.
Thank you for sharing the most inspirational story of this year’s race. The ‘Slow Boat’ has been compulsive watching for many of us, eclipsing the rest of the race! ❤

Go on Pip, have the best party in Melbourne.

I will miss your "slow boat to Melbourne" updates! Make it safe to Melbourne! Thank you for your positivity ❤❤❤❤
