    "...exhaust that is required..." That's where you're wrong, Kevin. You know what exhaust system fits every IRS made? Open headers. Also, SVT SNEK is a great license plate.

    • @houseofno
      @houseofno 2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      There are a number of reasons not to go with open headers. For one, they aren't legal on road vehicles. Secondly emission laws vary from state to state. Some states like KS or TN have no state emissions. Other states like CA prohibit any kind of emissions exemptions on ANY vehicle newer than a '75. Thirdly, carbon monoxide KILLS. It's why road cars have catalytic converters so drivers don't kill themselves via carbon monoxide poisoning.

      @@marks93cobra I personally don’t recommend it. The IRS cars have a fixed pumpkin so they won’t interfere … the solid axle moves in a way that it could interfere if they weren’t mounted low enough. Most people do it for aesthetics, which I think is silly. I run IRS pipes because I have an IRS.

    Built a TPI engine obtained from the wrecking yard. Built 700R4(nit from the wrecking yard) Also obtained from the wrecking yard was a full set of IROC wheels, quick ratio steering box, posi rear end with rear disc brakes, factory suspension goodies including 36 mm hollow front sway bar and "wonder" bar, garage fabled strut tower brace
    and IROC ground affects. Loved that car.

    I'm a little concerned about the rear coil over setup. Beside the upper shock mount not being intended for the spring pressure (which can be fixed), the thing that is scaring me is you have the entire weight of the car, and all the force of the suspension on one single bolt attached to the lower control arm. That bolt is going to be in shear load constantly and i'm concerned it will just break from the spring forces. Might wanna think about how that shock is attached to the lower and make something stronger.

    Also, the 8.8 isn’t bad to do. Yes it’s annoying tearing it apart 5 times. The SINGLE best tip for any axle that doesn’t have a 3rd member, buy 2 inner pinion bearings and grind the ID on one to where it easily slips on and off the pinion. Then while you find the correct shins for your wear pattern and backlash, you don’t need to press on and off. Then during final assembly, freeze the pinion and bake the bearing at 300 degrees for an hour and slide the bearing on. I just use original carrier shims if keeping the factory gearing on a rebuild.

    Definitely a good tip! Flustered and tripping over stuff, just stop and organize tools and parts. I learned that after many long nights of wrenching.

    Sweet Mustang. I like those years Cobra’s. Back in the early 90’s I saw at a dealership a Carroll Shelby Super Snake. It had the 351 V-8 on it… Bad ass Mustang.
    Congrats on the Summit and other sponsorships.

    I bought the QA1 full suspension kit through Summit Racing for my first gen Monte Carlo. Let’s face it. After 50 years, the stamped stock suspension parts, coils, and rubber bushings just needed to be gone. I also got the optional rear sway bar and fatter front sway bar. With 60 series BFGs on 15x8 rims, that car has never handled that good. I am not a professional mechanic. With the supplied instructions, I was able to install it all using jack stands in my garage. If you couldn’t tell, I fully endorse QA1 from Summit Racing.

    Congratulations on the Big time SUMMIT sponsorship. Nice to see what my 96 could have been (opens Autotempest app). Lastly, the Eagle vs the John-in-a-box was a bit of a time traveling memory when we did the same dain-bramaging stunts in high school back in 1984, in NJ, when it used to snow that deep and stick around for more than an hour.
    Anywho, as always, looking forward to the next videos.
