Bandai Namco hardly putting any resources into Digimon has been incredibly frustrating. Digimon has the full potential to be an industry staple but Bandai Namco doesn't seem to want to take a chance on it. Palworld kind of proved that Digimon is entirely capable of doing well.
Habu, you did such an amazing job, though you were very quiet with the franchise in terms of when games were coming. But damn. I hope the new team can keep up the quality (and hopefully the translations get a big better funding) cyber sleuth was such an amazing return to the US for Digimon Games, I just hope we get good games going forward, new Story games and more experimental ones as well.
As great as playing through Cyber Sleuth and Hacker's Memory has been, Digimon Survive was a surprise I never knew I wanted. I have hopes for the future, but this will definitely be a loss because I'm so in love with cyber sleuth and hackers memory, the first digimon games I've ever played!
man, Bandai Namco kinda going wild these days I hope Digimon Community will always remember Habumon when it becomes a really huge franchise in the future
Whenever the face of a division changes it can be scary, thank you Habu for all the work that you did. Let us hope that passion can continue on into the next director and take these games and franchise to even greater heights!
It's so sad to see him go, but I appreciate all the fantastic and passionate work he's done for the franchise. Hopefully we'll still have great new things ahead.
Habu leaving is a massive shock. However I’m personally hopeful that, whoever the new director is, they will put as much love, care and personality into future digimon games as much or perhaps even more than Habu did.
I feel that very often, we associate a franchise to a big name, a company, a lead producer, often forgetting all the people working on the project. But when you have someone very influencial, that leaves their mark on it, it's difficult to not feel like they're a part of what we love. I cannot express how much I love Re Digitize and Survive, or the blast I had when I played Adventure PSP. Even without knowing the name, we enjoy a project made with passion from someone who loves the same thing as us. May his future be bright, for he brought much light himself
Most of the Digimon games that make my top 5 favorites are headed by Habu. The Cyber Sleuth games were absolute masterpieces! And Digimon Survive was spectacular as well. Honestly I wish I had these games when I was a kid. I was really a Digimon fan because of the anime prior to the DS era when we finally started getting some decent games. Then Habu came along and decent became freaking awesome! He will be missed.
Wishing him well! I wasn't the biggest fan of most of the things he had a hand in but he still has my utmost respect nonetheless. Very sad but I'm looking forward to the changes we'll see in the future. I'm curious to see something really different.
Now with this bomb dropped on us, I'm having an epiphany in retrospect: So this was why we had the questionnaire about "What kind of Digimon games do you wish to see in the future?". It was basically to help whoever this new director is find his trajectory.
Well, why I feel like every time I'm into something new, a sad thing happens? I was always a huge Pokémon fan, and since 2022 I've been playing Digimon games and enjoying them. Now, 2024, with palworld everywhere, I am so worried for both franchises. I love them so much, and, specially Digimon, they need to show their potential. Please, let this be a good thing, let this be the beginning of something good, not the end of it.
If anything, Palworld showed both Bandai and Game Freak that there IS public for realistic, adult themed Mon games. I hope game freak stops making half assed games like scarlet/violet, and focus on quality. As for Bandai, latest Digimon games already had quality, but it felt like they didn't have enough funding to fully materialize their visions, the end result is a niche product, like Survive. All I really want is a AAA digimon game, something big, maybe open world, with tons of digimon. They alreafy have 400+ high quality 3D models from cyber sleuth, add 200 something more and you got yourself the definitive digimon game! I'd love a well made World 3 remake too.
Damn this is a really sad way to announce that someone who helped give Digimon it's identity back is just gone now. I really hope we are in a new era and continue to get more exiting ideas in the games.
Oh the one hand I am scared that anytime a figurehead of a game project leaves, that means the rest of the series will take a major hit and the quality decreases. But at the same time, I do feel sad that this guy is gone because you can tell that whenever he made a Digimon game, it FEELS like a Digimon game, even if the series changes from a JRPG to a visual novel/SRPG. It is a very sad day but we have to hold on to a good amount of hope that who ever will take the reins will be just as good as Habu was and to Habu, thanks for being with the series for as long as you did. I really enjoyed Digimon Story Cyber Sleuth. Very great short video Karn!
Woooooooooow, where do we go from here? He's the reason we started to get quality games that had some consistency. Before Habu, Digimon games felt chaotic like nobody knew what to do with the video games. We finally got a face to go with the games. He made the community feel like we was apart of the games sort of like what Game Freak does with Pokemon. Those cancelled games seem to have been more arena fighters as that announcement came a few weeks after that JJK game bombed and the Naruto game bombed. So digimon should be safe. I'm sad now.😢
@@leonardofarias8843 Yes. Habu has been the director of Digimon games since I think Hackers memory, but he's been working on Digimon games since Lost evolution.
Thank you habu your efforts basically help revitalize the west's investment in digimon which i love since i loved the games and anime as a kid but then stopped localizing them which bummed me out but your efforts made the gamess so successfull they started localizing again so once afain thank you.
I was definitely suprised when I saw the news earlier today. Leaving aside the end result, it feels like Habu always wanted to try for Digimon-games to be the best they could be, and try as many things as possible, but it seems like the big decision-makers at Bandai Namco didn't want that quality. Honestly, whenever I think of Habu I remember that interview at Digimon Con like 2 years ago, where he answered questions regarding Digimon-games, and most of the time his answer was just "it requires resources and we're only given those resources when we can prove that it'd pay off", especially with how ambitious he was, it feels like the games didn't meet the expectations he gave the guys at Bandai Namco to get the time and resources that he needed... and even then it feels like most of his games didn't really get as many resources as they needed to just push them over a certain line. If this is how it went down... the future of Digimon-games is definitely up in the air, if Bandai cares about Digimon as a franchise, they install someone who'd produce "safer" games that have as much resources put in as they expect in return, but on a more regular schedule than Habus games, if they don't they'll just assign the next best person but generally probably someone who is not too ambitious with the project and will just make fewer games, maybe a producer like that would move more towards legacy-content, porting older games to newer consoles... but for any new project at least, I'd trust in the team Habu cultivated and that they'll continue doing their best, just in the boundaries set by the new producer.
During that interview Habu was basically saying their broke and that rereleases, remakes and remasters were kind of risky at the moment judging by previous sales figures, for example DW1 is a beloved game in the community but it's not for everyone because ppl prefer the story games
I'd absolutely a DW3 remake, it's as JRPG as you could ask, and those are still loved in Japan, and I feel like western fans would buy it for nostalgia alone haha
I'm glad the new story game is still in development. Might be my last digimon game. I think Habu should get a Digimon designed in his honor for that game after all he's done for the series. Make Habumon real!
Hacker's memory on sale on PS4 reminded me about Digimon, playing that game reminded me how much of an impact this franchise has had on me (ie my never give up/we can face anything together attitude), & the complete edition on PC made me fall in love with the franchise all over again. Still a novice to this fandom, but I've loved the games I've played that he's been a part of & it's always sad to see someone like that go
So I've never heard of this guy until just now, but if he's the one responsible for Cyber Sleuth and Next Order, then I gotta say it bums me out that he's gone now. Those two were fantastic games that I think re-secured Digimon's presence in the West, and ones I absolutely jumped to buy when I found out they were coming out. Also good to know there's a new Digimon game on the way.
Man, this wasn't something I expected to occur. Hopefully whoever takes over provides the best for the series. Hacker's Memory was one of the best Digimon games I've played and Habu did the best he could with it.
I think it's a terrible move for the franchise to let go of Habu Kazumasa, you could tell by his work that he is someone who really loved Digimon. And I think the games he directed are some of the best if not the best the franchise has produced, I only hope the franchise could continue to produce great games, and I wish the best for Habu in the future, and I can only say I'm really grateful for what he gave us.
I really hope to god it isn’t the last of Digimon I’ve been watching Digimon since I was a kid I grow up on that show it’s my favorite show n game n toy line it’s the only thing I will watch on tv like I hope to god it’s not the end 😭n thank u for making all this Digimon stuff for us u will be missed habu
Digimon needs some major support from upper management at Bandai ... Look at how Palworld got attention. Digimon could have had that if they could market properly and frature games that the fans are asking for, no need for overspending either.
I wanna say this is a goodbye for now, but I have no idea where he will be creating new ideas. I hope to see that this new Digimon game will be a good one. This is like if Sakurai completely left Nintendo or if Harada leave the Tekken team/Project Soul people. I have faith that this could be a new and experimental era that were entering, but who knows
That saddens me, the games under his charge have been so fun and influential for me. I have trust and hope in the new digimons torygame regardless and I hope the best for coming games and Habu. But man it stings!
Digimon cyber sleuth and hackers memory got back into wanting to learn more about these new digimon lore and other digimon games. I had drifted away from digimon cause I didn’t like the tamakachi part of the games. I love the game play of cyber sleuth and hacker memory my favorite digimon game so far.
As much as I constantly joke about how biased I am towards Cyber Sleuth... it is true. That game was the start for me being what I would consider a _real_ Digimon fan. It made me actively engaged with the setting, and for more than just waifus and cool designs. The characters, the story, it was all great. I haven't actually gone through Hacker's Memory yet, but apparently it's considered by many to be even better, so... yeah, I've certainly got expectations. So to hear that the guy who made it is not gonna be working on any more Digimon games... it hits hard, man. The dude who got me seriously into this franchise isn't working on it anymore. It honestly does hurt. Habu, you were the man. You really were. ...so I've decided. In his honor, I will finally, _finally_ get back to Hacker's Memory. I will beat that game, and maybe I'll do an NG+ hard mode run of Cyber Sleuth afterwards. And if that makes me suffer? So be it. The Royal Knights, the Seven Great Demon Lords, the Eaters, all of them will fall at my feet. All in Habu's name. All in the name of the man who got me into this franchise. Thank you, Kazumasa Habu. You will be missed by all of us.
Didn't know this guy was a guy; and while I have my beef with this era of Digimon games, the story, the style and the character writing have all been well above what can often be expected of a major franchise like this. While they're not at all the most polished games in the world, no one can accuse the last decade of Digimon games of not swinging for the fences in terms of experimenting with the property.
Thank You Habu! I do have a good feeling about this though. All the surveys and the other signs they were looking for feedback on games and the direction of Digimon must have been coming from new leadership and not Habu. A new direction coming?
even tho the only digimon game i played was the cybersleuth collection. those game where great even with it probleme. i hope the new director fellow in his footstep and propulse teh digimon game higher then before
I wonder if this has to do with the whole Bandai Namco restructuring thing they have going on about doing way less games but with way more quality. Sad as it is, it might mean that the next Digimon game might be great in spite of it in the long run
This was quite unexpected Habu was a great in Digimon. He sometimes make mistakes ,but when he got some right is amazing. Digimon World Redigitizer:Decode is a amazing game bring everything of good of the original world and had a story he made his entire team play the original. So everyone understands what make the game great different of next order. I hope Habu is okay.
Will never forget that digimon cyber sleuth reignited my love for dgmn games😭💕. Can’t wait to see how the next face of dgmn games will do better than habu
As someone who lived in the "terrible" PS1 Digimon game era, I like Lost Story, and it's a surprise to find out that it's the first game he worked on. Aside from the questionable balance (too grindy) of the World 1-esque games, I really like these newer Digimon games. Never played the Xros Wars and the Rumble thingy though. My favorite Digimon game is still the first Digimon World, still replaying that game at least once after a few years. Thanks for Hacker's Memory, it's my favorite Digimon game of the generation.
Thank you, Habu 🫡

Let us hope that passion can continue on into the next director and take these games and franchise to even greater heights!
It's so bittersweet that there's a Digimon game being developed without him. His vision will be missed T-T
Its gonna be interesting to see how things progress but definetely a sudden and unexpected farewell. I wish his career the best.
Thanks for everything habu you will be missed
It's so sad to see him go, but I appreciate all the fantastic and passionate work he's done for the franchise. Hopefully we'll still have great new things ahead.
Habu leaving is a massive shock. However I’m personally hopeful that, whoever the new director is, they will put as much love, care and personality into future digimon games as much or perhaps even more than Habu did.
Exactly! Sad news but I'm going to stay optimistic for the future
Thank you for all the work you've done daddy Habu. Looking forward to what you and Digimon gives us in the future.
May his future be bright, for he brought much light himself
well, all we can hope is that this next story game carries habu's legacy and has a chance to succeed it
So true
Damn. Cyber Seluth and Hacks Memory had a huge impact on me, with Survive even changing my whole outlook on life. Thanks for that, Habu.
The only reason I bought a PS4 was to play Cyber Sleuth and eventually Hackers Memory. I called it my Digimon Machine.
Pokémon day is next week the 27th
@@diamonshade7484 yeah, and then we have Digimon Con next month. I am so worried
Love it or hate it, it’s amazing that Survive was even finished, let alone successful. Clearly, he believed in the game and pushed for it.
Well... I know something I will be doing when I finally get around to Cyber Sleuth. Thank you for everything, Habu.
Bummer, loved his work
Man thats so sad, the Cyber Sleuth series was fantastic. I hope they have someone who can continue to make some bangers.
I wish him nothing but the best he's done so much for the digimon community thank you for everything Habu o7
I'm sad now.😢
He was involved with Survive?
@@leonardofarias8843 Yes. Habu has been the director of Digimon games since I think Hackers memory, but he's been working on Digimon games since Lost evolution.
Thank you habu your efforts basically help revitalize the west's investment in digimon which i love since i loved the games and anime as a kid but then stopped localizing them which bummed me out but your efforts made the gamess so successfull they started localizing again so once afain thank you.
He made one of the only games that hurt me. And now he is gone. Damn.
I still play Cyber Sleuth and Hacker's Memory until nowadays! Some of my favorite games ever!
Bandai wasted a lot of money in the Gundam metaverse its crazy
I understood exactly what Survive was meant to be and it was exactly what I expected and I enjoyed every moment of it
Hacker's memory on sale on PS4 reminded me about Digimon, playing that game reminded me how much of an impact this franchise has had on me (ie my never give up/we can face anything together attitude), & the complete edition on PC made me fall in love with the franchise all over again.
Still a novice to this fandom, but I've loved the games I've played that he's been a part of & it's always sad to see someone like that go
Feels😢
So I've never heard of this guy until just now, but if he's the one responsible for Cyber Sleuth and Next Order, then I gotta say it bums me out that he's gone now. Those two were fantastic games that I think re-secured Digimon's presence in the West, and ones I absolutely jumped to buy when I found out they were coming out. Also good to know there's a new Digimon game on the way.
Man, this wasn't something I expected to occur. Hopefully whoever takes over provides the best for the series. Hacker's Memory was one of the best Digimon games I've played and Habu did the best he could with it.
The sad emotion in your voice I could feel that
Definitely hit the feels haha
NOOOO HABU!!!!!!
you were my hope....my hope digimon games would continue to rock.
Now I'm worried we will get more digimon rumble all stars...
Digimon needs some major support from upper management at Bandai ... Look at how Palworld got attention. Digimon could have had that if they could market properly and frature games that the fans are asking for, no need for overspending either.
I just hope they continue to release Digimon games on PC. For me that was one of the biggest improvements in recent years.
Habu was in charge of creating Nokia...he shall not be forgotten
next order definitely my fav. follow by sleuth.
thank you for the game Habu
Damn I loved cybersleuth I played it for 14 hours straight one day longest I've sat down playing a game just got so emmerced in it. Farewell Habu
1. I wish Habu the best in all his future endeavors!
2. I truly truly truly hope that the person who takes his position is someone that Habu trusts.
He will not be forgotten
the franchise is going through such strange decisions, it feels really strange.
Petition to make Hubmon, Habu's Digimon to be made canon as a thank-you to him?
Well, this could be disastrous
Sad news indeed he was like a parent to the whole Digimon community at this point 💔
That make me so sad love these games lot
I'm definitely remaining optimistic!
Although it's upsetting that he is leaving, I wish nothing but the best for him in all his endeavors, and the future director of this franchise.
Considering that he did seem very passionate about the franchise, maybe he left because Bandai CLEARLY mistreats the franchise in many aspects.
Bandaid treats Digimon like that red headed step child. Sad really, since Bandai has an IP that could really have been massive.
Wow didn’t expect to hear this news
Yeah it was shocking!
Will never forget that digimon cyber sleuth reignited my love for dgmn games😭💕. Can’t wait to see how the next face of dgmn games will do better than habu
Thank you Habu
As someone who lived in the "terrible" PS1 Digimon game era, I like Lost Story, and it's a surprise to find out that it's the first game he worked on.
Aside from the questionable balance (too grindy) of the World 1-esque games, I really like these newer Digimon games.
Never played the Xros Wars and the Rumble thingy though.
My favorite Digimon game is still the first Digimon World, still replaying that game at least once after a few years.
Thanks for Hacker's Memory, it's my favorite Digimon game of the generation.
It won’t be the same
Well said!
Thank you
