I've been looking at the G Shock 2100 series since they came out and this is the one for me. Finally a positive lcd display, good contrast between hands/indices and the black dial and most important a comfortable strap out of the box. Great review thanks 👍
I did my own mod to it when I got mine 1 1/2 years ago. I opened it up, and applied GLOW IN THE DARK paint I got from a Michael’s art supply store. Used a toothpick to apply just a round dot on the indices ( don’t put too much cause it can interfere with the hand movements ), and put some on the tips of the hands( again check for clearance of the hands passing each other) , works really great, with a dose of Ultraviolet flashlight it goes through the whole night, no problems. The digital display is the problem, but I use it just for the D/D. My everyday piece ever since. 🇨🇦👍
A few models had positive display. If you look at the Women's models Smokey blue, white, a light khakis green colour, and of course 2 light pink ones. They all have positive displays. I think most can get away with the first 3 colours for sure. I have white, blue, pink with rose gold accents and a black virtual world one. I'm going to use the light blue or the white to mod into a steel case and bracelet.
Very practical military watch. Nice silver, reflective case so the sunlight can glint off it, giving away your position to enemy snipers who will then proceed to dome you.
Yes it really works. My daughter bought me the GM2100 in blue when it was a rarity and I had difficulty in reading it. I have now bought white hands and that has made the watch a joy to wear. This is even better due to markers and negative display. Price is high though.

I have an orange strap and a stainless strap. Gives the watch several different good looks. I love the indices on it. They reflect light and shine almost like diamonds.
I really love the new release and the GM-2100C is my favorite of the 3. I adore the finish and color combo on that one (plus the positive display). I still prefer G-Shock Squares and still prefer resin bezels - but this one is really nice. Tough solar is also not a deal breaker for me - many of my TS G-Shocks are in watch boxes and often time I take one out to wear and it's dead...especially those damn Bluetooth version ones, those tend to drain batteries way quicker than non BT ones. I think you're missing out on the practicality of solar power. One or two days per year open the box and place on a sunny window sill or wear on a sunny day. I too was dubious, but the additional benefit of not needing to compromise waterproof seals, ever, on a dive watch won me over. My G Shock solar can withstand 18 months in total darkness or 22 months in power saving mode. Charging really isn't an issue.
Literally bought a GM2100 silver online 3 days ago. Haven't arrived yet and I know the negative display is bad but I can't complain. Still prefer the hairline brushed silver dial imo. Still this positive variation is amazing.

I like this a lot, but really wish it was solar. I don’t know how your Solar battery is dying when they can maintain a charge for many months. That would just mean you’re never actually wearing the watch.
I have just bought one and it is truly great. Very comfortable, easy and practical. Casio is always a God Tier level on watch making although Shakira doesn't like.
I have something like 120 watches, with, among others, PP, AP, Pam, Rlx, Omega, Breguet, J. Droz ecc ecc. But no G-Shock by now... And this is finally going to change :) This is gonna be finally my 1st G-Shock. Not so plasticky, not so huge, not wrong color (even tho the perfect combo for me would be this dial inside the darkened GM-2100CB-3A case, but whatever, I may buy both and assemble them that way...), not stupidly expensive for what it is, and good for hiking without worrying Good job Casio!
I own one of these watches. And although its a very nice watch, it is not "military" or "tactical" by any means. This watch case is polished and shines like a signal mirror in the sun.
Although I've always liked the 'CasiOak' one of the things that stopped me considering getting one was the legibility. This watch has solved that issue. The whole watch looks just more err.. polished, which it is of course. Personally I prefer the solar powered ones that sit on the windowsill but totally appreciate that it can be a pain if they are kept in a dark box for a while keeping the windowsill tidy. I have a couple of the full metal squares with metal bracelets with end links that do not articulate much so I should be fine with one of these. Time to have a look at one at the AD at some point and try one. A great video Andre (huge apologies if I spelt this wrong as there are other ways that this can be spelt for instance Andrzej) and a very good point about not having Bluetooth radio being able to be tracked by some pesky people that may not be very nice.
I have one on the way and arriving tomorrow. Everything on this watch will work great with two exceptions...For someone who wants the "undetectable" timepiece, it is important to recognize that there are SO many reflective elements that reveal position in an operation. All it takes is a flashlight beam. This will be easily solved with a little dish scrubber pad and 10-20 passes over the bling to solve the issue and a few shots with a flat black paint in perparation for field use. The other compromising feature is those ridiculous, free-floating strap keepers. You might as well walk around with a musician's triangle to give away your position. I think they could (at the very least) sew the rings into the strap. I will be quickly adapting it to a NATO style strap...my go-to straps for any tool watch. If one spring bar comes loose under strass, your watch is still with you. Will have to see if this is all a moot point based on review of how reflective the hour markers and hands are. Nonetheless, will make a good daily wear.

I was doing some measuring with my trusty digital caliper on my wrist and it looks like my skinny wrists won't work with this watch, thanks Dad! Just means I get to keep rocking my Hamilton Khaki King! But now I want a fabric strap for it...
I own one of these variants. Unfortunately, the legibility of the digital information for model GM-2100CB-3AER is pretty poor. The loops are also a big flaw, as they are too loose and tend to slip off the strap. In tough conditions, I am also not very sure if the plastic retainer that holds the strap will last very long.

Had the GM2100, had to sold it because of the low visibility between hand and background. Now i ordered the Gm2100cb, really missed it, good comfortable watch
I have been a Casio fan since the original G Shock and Data bank and have owned many select models. I currently have the gray - green metal and plastic strap version of the Oak - its beautiful BUT legibility is poor due to the lack of contrast as the hands and dials match the grey case colour when they should be silver. Its a well lit room or daytime watch only. Lume is also substandard. If you gonna charge $200+ and add lume do it right like Seiko. Your silver sample here is better but the day indicator contrast is lacking.
I have one of these, and here’s my big question: can I take the silver metal Casio metal band for the GMB-2100D-1A and put it on this thing? That way I’d have the superior legibility of this watch and the nice metal band of the GMB-2100D-1A (which I bought and immediately returned because the legibility was so poor).
Good video, it looks great, but militarily, I guess its a reflection magnet. I do like the legibility and the positive lcd. I am a fan of solar and bluetooth/atomic time, though and this does not have either. I love the look, but for me, I'd save a bit of money and get a Citizen eco-drive diver and put it on a £6 NATO Khaki strap, it'll last a lifetime and be ideal for anything the military can throw at it. I still have my 1984 vintage DW-5200 'Hero' G-Shock that went through the first Gulf war and the '98/'99 Kuwait detachments....i didn't miss a beat.
In the same analog military vibe, I'm leaning toward the Pagani 1667 (007)... Feel ashamed for my Aqua Terra and 300m, but they seems to have corrected the desing in a good way (Omega doesn't listen to the real fans, or would have get rid of the escape valve, and brought the 60's 300 style back), and with that black rubber band, could even wear it in service. Maybe not the fonctions of the 2100, but these tiny digitals infos are hard on my older eyes anyway.
I keep my one solar watch by the window and not in my watch box. The whole point is that it’s my toughest watch and must be ready to grab and go at any point, so it’s always sitting by the window… alone

Dunno about military use in the field: you can spot the bezel of that positive LCD screen version from a mile a way
That and why would you want an analog watch in the field? Digital is far faster to read.

The nylon strap could be better, especially on the strap holder rings. Any suggestion for great nylon strap replacement options?
